Milan Skriniar is everything Spurs need to get back into the Champions League

Whilst Tottenham Hotspur go about their summer business rather quietly, one transfer saga just won’t go away…

What’s the word?

According to RMC Sport (via Sport Witness), Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte will not waiver from his interest in Spurs’ club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

It’s claimed that the Serie A outfit will come back in with another offer in the coming days, which will open up a potential swap deal with one of their current stars.

Jose Mourinho is a fan of central defender Milan Skriniar, who is valued at £45m, whereas he’s not taken too kindly to the Frenchman since he took charge in November.

Aggressive leader

Spurs are lacking in the defensive department following the exit of long-serving veteran Jan Vertonghen, so involving Skriniar in some form would surely be smart business.

In Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier they lack an aggressive leader – someone like a John Terry or Ricardo Carvalho, who Mourinho had at Chelsea – and that’s what the Slovakian colossus would bring.

Skriniar has been likened to former Liverpool enforcer Martin Skrtel as well as Alessandro Nesta.

“He has always been the leader on and off the pitch,” claims his former youth coach Tibor Goljan whilst Goal lauded him as one of the signings of the summer in 2018, describing the Inter brute as “a strong tackler who is quick to make clearances.”

The 25-year-old impressed on the biggest stage this season, averaging 2.5 tackles, 2.3 clearances and 1.8 interceptions coming up against Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, via WhoScored, so he seems like the perfect candidate to help lead Spurs back into the Champions League.

It was only one season ago that they made the final.

Carvalho was integral to Chelsea winning two PL titles and one FA Cup under Mourinho and in Skriniar, he’ll be getting a similar figure who can truly kickstart his era in north London.

AND in other news, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has to unleash “huge talent” tipped for the top this season…

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Key information about Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was built in 2019 and is the new home of Tottenham Hotspur. The ground is located on the site of the famous old White Hart Lane site in north London and is the second-largest club stadium in the country.

Its maximum capacity stands at 62,303 with a pitch that measures 105m by 68m. The surface is covered with hybrid grass and it has undersoil heating installed with no running track surrounding the field.

The record attendance was set when 61,104 fans arrived to watch Spurs take on Chelsea on 22 December 2019.

A history of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Needless to say, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having been built in 2019, there’s not much history behind it just yet. But Spurs have been playing their football on both public land and rented turfs in the 1880s and it wasn’t until 1899 that they finally moved to a piece of land owned by the brewery company Charringtons that would, later on, be known as the White Hart Lane.

The club would spend many years at that ground, renovating and improving it along the way, and the first official plans for a new stadium were conceived as early as 2007 but it actually wouldn’t be until October 2013 – following previous plans all shelved or postponed – that they would get the idea of a new project for a multi-use stadium that can host American NFL games as well as football.

On 8 July 2015, the official announcement arrived that an agreement with the NFL to hold at least two NFL games a year in a 10-year partnership had been reached. On that same day, they also announced the design team and a whole new project plan. All of that was accepted and confirmed by Haringey Council in December that same year with the Major also giving approval to the plans in February 2016.

The construction itself was done in two phases so that White Hart Lane could still be used in the 2016/17 campaign. The first phase involved the erection of the North, West and East Stands, and the second the South Stand, only to be done after White Hart Lane had been demolished.

With parts of the old ground already gone, the remainder of White Hart Lane would follow after the final day of the 16/17 season and the complete demolition of all visible remnants of the stadium were removed by early August 2017. White Hart Lane was no more.

Still, parts of the old ground were indeed incorporated into the new one and the roof was raised in March 2018 with the new pitch following suit in early October. The external cladding of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was completed in March 2019. Even though it was supposed to be opened in 2018, safety issues pushed the date back significantly, meaning Spurs would have to play at Wembley a while longer and until everything was finally ready for the official games for the senior team in April 2019.

The first match was actually an U-18 clash between Tottenham and Southampton held on 24 March as 28,987 fans witnessed the home side win 3-1. The stadium then opened with a ceremony on 3 April and the first Premier League clash followed suit as Spurs faced Crystal Palace, winning 2-0 on the night.

Even though reports and statements vary, the cost of the whole project is set to be around one billion pounds even though initial planning had it down at around £400m. Interestingly, in the South Atrium there’s a commemorative plaque where the centre spot at the old ground used to be, which is a nice touch that helps remember the old White Hart Lane.

Also, the club’s famous cockerel statue is still there, only now it’s bigger and sits on top of the South Stand at a height of 4.5 metres. Reportedly, the name of the ground will change once the rights are sold to an appropriate sponsor.

Tickets to watch Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

All tickets to watch Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium can be found on the club’s official website. The prices come in three main categories with category A being the most expensive one. Depending on the clash and the seating area, the tickets can cost from £52 to £98.

Spurs offer season tickets and memberships that can get you more favourable prices and priorities on buying the tickets in the first place.

Everton fans discuss ex-winger Ademola Lookman

Everton fans have been embroiled in a debate over one of their former players on social media this week.

One account on Twitter asked supporters to discuss Ademola Lookman, posing the question – ‘overrated or underrated?’

The 22-year-old departed Goodison Park in the summer following a two-year spell at the club, joining previous loan club RB Leipzig on a permanent deal.

Lookman signed a five-year contract at the Bundesliga outfit but has only featured eight times this campaign, playing a total of 245 minutes, via Transfermarkt.

Everton clinched the young winger from Charlton Athletic in a £7.5m deal and clearly he divided opinion during his short time at the Toffees.

Some fans believe he was criminally underused whilst others have blasted his attitude, leading to comparisons to current striker Moise Kean.

The former England U21 international is now valued at £12.15m by Transfermarkt, a decrease from the £18m tag handed to him back in 2018.

Spurs fans reminisce about Gareth Bale’s time in north London

It’s fair to say Gareth Bale will go down in the history books as one of Tottenham’s best ever players in recent memory.

Having arrived from Southampton, the Wales international broke out of his shell as a left-back, and developed into one of the world’s most devastating wingers, eventually earning a big-money move to European giants Real Madrid.

In his time at Spurs, Bale played 203 times across all competitions, scoring 56 goals and providing a further 58 assists, and came up with some truly epic moments, not least that hat-trick at the San Siro against Inter in the Champions League.

Despite it being a few years since he left the club, Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to reminisce about their former talisman.

Some supporters of the north London side called on Bale to “come back”, with one fan in particular urging Daniel Levy to “bring him home”.

If the finances are right, then Levy can somehow work his magic in the transfer market, then it really would be a story for the ages to see Bale return home to north London.

He seemingly hasn’t quite settled into life off-the-pitch at Madrid, with teammate Thibaut Courtois publicly questioning his commitment to the cause.

As some Spurs fans have suggested, maybe it’s the perfect time for him to come back.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans react to links with this Eredivisie ace.

Crystal Palace: Jadan Raymond flying the flag for the Eagles’ England representation

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…

It is a damning indicator of Crystal Palace’s scarce amount of talented Englishman.

The Eagles have no players in Gareth Southgate’s senior squad, and haven’t had a single player named in the Three Lions team since Wilfried Zaha was called up by a certain Roy Hodgson back in 2012.

The south Londoners are well represented in Africa – Jordan Ayew, Zaha and Cheikhou Kouyate were recently named in the Ghana, Ivory Coast and Senegal squads respectively.

For England, however, Palace representatives are few and far between.

Scratch beneath the surface a little bit and head down the age ranks a tad, and you will find a Palace player’s name in there – 17-year-old Jadan Raymond.

The teenager is a hot prospect having scored the winning penalty in the Syrenka Cup for England’s U17 side, while reportedly starring throughout the entire tournament.

Raymond’s ability has alerted Champions League sides such as Benfica and Valencia to his talent, who are believed to be plotting moves to sign him.

In this current international break, Raymond has once again been selected to represent England’s U17 side for the upcoming matches against Denmark and Czech Republic.

He was also named in the squad for games against Spain and Germany at the start of October, and while it remains to be seen whether or not Raymond is poached by some of Europe’s biggest clubs, he is currently one of very few Palace players who are actually making movements on the international scene for England.

The Athletic’s Crystal Palace correspondent Matt Woosnam recently wrote of how Raymond – along with Fionn Mooney and Joe Whitworth – played vital roles in defeating Arsenal and Chelsea on their way to being crowned national champions at U15 level after winning the Super Floodlit Cup.

With so few senior players actually doing Palace proud for England across multiple age ranks, Raymond is arguably the one flying the flag highest.

Man Utd scouting Swedish starlet Dejan Kulusevski after impressive campaign

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Italian outlet FC Inter News, Manchester United are amongst a host of clubs scouting Dejan Kulusevski.

What’s the word?

The Atalanta youngster is currently enjoying an impressive campaign whilst on loan at fellow Italian side Parma, notching two goals and providing a further five assists.

Now, FC Inter News claim that his fine form has attracted the attention of several clubs, with scouts from United, Arsenal and Southampton drawing up “more than flattering reviews” about the versatile forward.

The report further adds however that the Red Devils may have to wait till next summer to land the 19-year-old’s signature, with the Swede happy to wait and enjoy more regular first-team football with Parma.

Fits the puzzle

Predominantly a right-winger, Kulusevski would instantly help to solve United’s glaring lack of real quality and options in that position. Currently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been using the likes of Daniel James, Andreas Pereira and even Juan Mata from there, and so the Red Devils could desperately do with a sprinkle of added magic from the flank.

In Kulusevski, they would be getting exactly that. As per Whoscored, he averages a very impressive 2.3 key passes and 2.6 dribbles per game, and that ability to find the killer ball for his fellow teammates to feed on is exactly what the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will be dreaming about. The 19-year-old’s five assists in Serie A is good enough to put him in joint-second in the league’s rankings, only behind Luis Alberto (8).

Parma director Alessandro Lucarelli paid him a remarkable compliment when speaking about him earlier this season.

“Kulusevski is a born talent. For this reason, Atalanta gave him only a dry loan (one without an option to buy clause) because they knew his qualities. He has an incredible maturity.”

If the Red Devils can eventually seal a deal for this “born talent”, he could no doubt prove to be an inspired signing for a position they could really do with some extra quality in.

Arsenal fans laud ‘special’ Kieran Tierney after Premier League debut

Lots of Arsenal fans have taken to social media to laud Kieran Tierney, after the August arrival from Celtic made his first Premier League start against Crystal Palace.

Tierney had been waiting to make his full English top-flight debut, having arrived at the Emirates Stadium still recovering from the double hernia operation (Football.London) that prevented him from featuring in the Hoop’s Champions League qualifying ties this summer.

The 22-year-old had been an unused substitute for the Gunners’ last two league games, after making his debut against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup and earning two starting calls in the Europa League earlier in the month.

Sead Kolasinac made way for Tierney to start against Palace on Sunday, and fans have since flocked to social media to laud the £25million (BBC) signing.

One noted that Tierney did more in eleven minutes against the Eagles than Kolasinac had in his entire Gunners career, with the Scot delivering a range of killer crosses into the box.

The 5 ft 8 full-back delivered a total of four crosses on Sunday, as he played 18 of his 47 passes in the final third and was successful with two of his three attempted dribbles, according to data collected by WhoScored.

He also won his sole attempted tackle and made two clearances before being taken off in the 75th-minute, although Unai Emery later confirmed his departure was tactical rather than through an injury (Football.London).

Here are some of the messages shared from Arsenal fans praising Tierney as the bright spot against Palace in what was his Premier League debut…

Liverpool’s Adrian tweets about the time he scored a penalty against Everton

Adrian is currently going through arguably the best spell of his career. The Spanish goalkeeper has been Liverpool’s number one for the past couple of months due to an injury to Alisson, and has won all eight league fixtures he has played in and helped crown the Reds as Super Cup champions.Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

However, the stopper arrived in Liverpool as a bit of a hero already, due to an iconic moment he had against Everton a few years back while playing for West Ham.

The Hammers tweeted the video of Adrian’s penalty goal against the Toffees on Thursday as a throwback post, and the stopper clearly has fond memories of that moment.

As If Liverpool fans couldn’t love the Spaniard any more after his heroics this season, they can now gloat about the time he mugged off Everton by throwing his gloves off before taking the spot-kick.

The replies to the Spaniard’s tweet shows that the Anfield faithful are already relishing in this moment and we’re sure that this will be brought up ahead of the next Merseyside derby.
