WATCH: USMNT star Tyler Adams scores outrageous 43-yard wondergoal for Bournemouth against Sunderland

U.S. international Tyler Adams stunned the Stadium of Light with an audacious 43-yard rocket, pushing AFC Bournemouth into a 2-0 lead over Sunderland just 15 minutes into Saturday’s Premier League clash. Spotting Robin Roefs off his line, the USMNT midfielder looped a brilliant effort from near the center circle into the net.

Adams' strike came just eight minutes after Amine Adli had given the visitors an early lead, stunning the home supporters into silence.

The goal immediately drew comparisons to Richarlison's 35-yard effort for Tottenham in last weekend's North London derby against Arsenal, which had previously held the record for the longest-range goal this season. It adds to the trend of spectacular long-range strikes in the Premier League this campaign, with there five strikes over a 30 yards already, including Marcus Tavernier’s 34.7 yard stunner against Nottingham Forest.

Before joining Bournemouth, the American midfielder had gone nearly four years without scoring at club level, with his last goal coming 1,472 days before he finally broke his drought earlier this month against Manchester City.

The American’s wonder strike put Bournemouth in a position to secure their fourth away win of the season – a notable jump for a club that struggled on the road last year. If the Cherries hold their 2-1 lead, they will finish the day in fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of their match against Everton on Dec. 2.

Mentor Zaheer Khan parts ways with Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants’ team mentor Zaheer Khan has parted ways with the franchise after just one season. ESPNcricinfo has learned Zaheer informed LSG of his decision on Thursday. It is understood that the primary reason for Zaheer quitting is that his vision for the franchise did not align with that of head coach Justin Langer and team owner Sanjeev Goenka. While Zaheer’s relationship with captain Rishabh Pant remained strong, he was affected by the thought process that played a role in LSG sliding down the points table in the second half of IPL 2025.Zaheer had joined LSG in August 2024, filling the vacancy left by Gautam Gambhir’s exit after IPL 2023. Zaheer had been with Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022 and agreed to a two-year contract with LSG, taking charge of scouting, planning and strategy.Related

After making the playoffs in their first two IPL seasons in 2022 and 2023, LSG did not reach the knockouts in the last two seasons. In 2025, they finished seventh with six wins from 14 games. It was a season of contrasting halves: LSG had five wins in their first eight matches but only one in the last six. Of the eight games they played at their home ground, the Ekana Stadium, they won only two.LSG had made headlines at last year’s mega auction when they bought Pant for INR 27 crore (USD 3.2 million approx.), making him the most expensive player ever in the IPL. The team was built around him, but Zaheer put in place building blocks he felt were needed to grow stronger every season. Despite there being a lot of chatter about Pant opening the batting, Zaheer spoke to the wicketkeeper-batter early on and told him that the better strategy would be for Mitchell Marsh to open with Aiden Markram. That strategy, Zaheer impressed on both Pant and the leadership group, would reduce the burden on their best batter, Nicholas Pooran, who was the No. 3.The role clarity allowed the batters to play with freedom and perform consistently. Markram had never opened in the IPL before, while Marsh, despite having been in the IPL for more than a decade, had never made a major impact. The move worked: Marsh was the fifth highest run-getter in IPL 2025 with 627 runs at a strike rate of 163.70, Pooran made 524 runs at 196.25, and Markram 445 at 148.82.

Dodgers’ Bullpen Shuts Down Lifeless Padres to Force Winner-Take-All Game 5

The Los Angeles Dodgers are alive.

The Dodgers responded to Tuesday’s close Game 3 loss at Petco Park, disappointing an enormous crowd that came out Wednesday to watch the San Diego Padres try to eliminate their division rivals. Los Angeles won 8–0 in a game that never felt close, never looking back after jumping out to a 5–0 lead in the third inning Wednesday.

With the NLDS now tied 2–2 and headed back to L.A. for a decisive Game 5 on Friday, here are several takeaways from Game 4 that might shape what happens next.

Who needs a starting pitcher?

Due to a litany of injuries, the Dodgers' starting rotation is a mess. Dave Roberts opted to go with a bullpen game and it worked like a charm. L.A.’s relievers gave the Padres fits all night. The different angles and velocities kept them off balance and an offense that had averaged seven runs in the first three games of the series was kept shockingly quiet.

Dodgers relievers combined to throw nine shutout innings and only allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out eight.

While Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the presumed starter for Game 5, Roberts might want to give serious consideration to going with another bullpen day instead after the Padres scored five runs off Yamamoto in his three innings of work in Game 1.

Padres offense goes lifeless

Despite a Petco Park record 47,773 Padres fans ready and willing to explode, their team didn't give them much to cheer about. The Padres fell behind early and wound up buried. Rather than fight back as it had so many times this season, San Diego's offense went quiet. In fact, it’s been held scoreless for 15 consecutive innings dating back to a six-run second inning in Game 3.

“We just need to get a better approach at the plate,” right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. told reporters after the game. “They executed their pitches today. [We] just need better at-bats as a group.”

The top six hitters in San Diego's lineup only mustered one extra-base hit on Wednesday, a ground-rule double by Tatis in the third inning. That section of the lineup went 4-for-23 (.174 batting average) with three singles, a double and a walk, with Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill both going 0-for-4 after providing crucial hits earlier in the series.

It was a brutal showing from an offense that had scored at least four runs in each of San Diego’s first six postseason games. And it kept that record crowd seated for most of the night.

Mookie Betts got the scoring started with a solo shot in the first inning. / Denis Poroy-Imagn Images

Mookie's slump is over

Mookie Betts hammered a first-inning home run for the second consecutive game—and almost a third if not for Jurickson Profar's spectacular catch in Game 2. Betts was 0-for-6 in the first two games of the series, continuing a brutal playoff slump that stretched back to a hitless postseason in 2023.

Over the past two games, Betts has turned it around, going 4-for-9 with two home runs and three RBIs. If he's hitting, the Dodgers' lineup becomes exponentially more difficult for the Padres to deal with.

After Dylan Cease induced a weak groundout from Shohei Ohtani to open the game, Betts hammered a 98 mph fastball over the center field wall. The solo shot energized the Dodgers and silenced the crowd. San Diego—the town and the team—never really got back into it.

Dodgers’ depth shines through

Star first baseman Freddie Freeman was scratched shortly before first pitch with a nagging ankle injury and shortstop Miguel Rojas also missed Game 4 with an abductor injury that forced him out of Game 3 early. No matter, as the Dodgers moved Tommy Edman to short and Max Muncy to first base while inserting Chris Taylor (center field) and Kiké Hernández (third base) off the bench. They repeatedly flipped Taylor and Hernández, showing off their versatility, and Taylor wound up in left field to finish the game after Andy Pages came into center field as a defensive replacement.

While they’d miss Freeman's bat for Game 5 if he’s still unavailable, the Dodgers didn't need him or Rojas on Wednesday. The fielding configuration worked just fine, with Hernandez and Taylor filling in admirably. Hernández also added two singles and scored once in four at-bats (though Taylor was less helpful on offense, going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts).

The Dodgers spent more than $1.2 billion this offseason to load up their roster with superstars, but with their season on the line, several longtime complementary pieces helped hold down the fort in their biggest win of the year.

Newcastle offer new 5-year deal to £160k-a-week star before bids from Saudi

Newcastle United are believed to have made a contract offer to one of their most important players, as they look to stave off potential interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Ross Wilson "delighted" with Newcastle job

The Magpies have made huge progress on the pitch in recent years, excelling under Eddie Howe, but important figures off the field have also played their part in the club’s success.

Earlier this week, Ross Wilson was confirmed as Newcastle’s new sporting director, taking on the role vacated by Paul Mitchell, and he has spoken of his delight at coming in at St James’ Park.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here at Newcastle United. This is such a special club, and I fully understand the passion, ambition and expectations of our incredible supporters, as well as the ambition and desire of our ownership to keep developing and building an even stronger Newcastle United.

“My conversations with ownership have been extremely positive, and I’ve also been in regular contact with Eddie Howe and David Hopkinson. The trust, cohesion and alignment we’re building already feels strong, and we believe that being united as a team will be so important as we continue to move the club forward together. I’m excited to work with everyone across the different areas within our football department.”

Now, a significant piece of Newcastle contract news has emerged, as the club look to tie down one of the most influential players at the club.

Newcastle make contract offer to star player

According to UOL [via Sport Witness], Newcastle have offered Bruno Guimaraes a new deal until the summer of 2030, continuing to see him as a huge figure.

The Magpies are wary that Saudi clubs could come in with bids for the Brazilian at some point in the future, so they are looking to tie him down for the next five years.

Bruno signing a new contract at Newcastle would be huge for anyone associated with the club, with his influence and passion at the heart of the midfield huge ever since he arrived at the club.

The 27-year-old’s quality was on show in last weekend’s 2-0 win at home to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, with Howe lauding him after the game.

“I thought we had control of the second half and we needed a moment to bring us the goal. Bruno’s goal was a moment of magic from an unbelievable player. He makes a difference more often than not.”

Newcastle continue their hierarchal re-structure with the appointment of a new technical director.

ByAngus Sinclair Oct 11, 2025

At 27, the £160,000-a-week Bruno is at the peak of his powers, and there is no reason why that will change in the next three or four years, so giving him a contract extension is a no-brainer, also putting them in a strong position if another club does make a move for him, in terms of being able to demand huge money.

Haynes trumps Hain as Nottinghamshire seal record chase

Birmingham Bears swept aside despite posting 226 on run-filled night at Trent Bridge

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay30-May-2025Sam Hain extended an extraordinary run-scoring record for the Bears at Trent Bridge with an unbeaten 92 off 49 balls – but his efforts were eclipsed as the Outlaws pulled off a record-breaking Vitality Blast victory.Jack Haynes was the match-winner with an unbeaten 89 off 41 balls with three sixes as the home side countered the Bears’ 226 for 5 with 229 for 3 – the biggest score they have achieved to win a match batting second in their T20 history, after skipper Joe Clarke’s 23-ball 58 had provided a launch pad.Hain has batted seven times against Outlaws on the ground since his first visit in 2016 and has been not out six times, including his career-best unbeaten 112 in 2022, giving him an average of 505 in those fixtures. He hit six sixes in a team tally of 14, Ed Barnard hammering four in his 28-ball 55. Australian allrounder Daniel Sams took 2 for 39 on his Outlaws debut but Conor McKerr’s analysis of 4-0-67-0 was the worst by a Notts player in T20 history – yet in the end it was a footnote.Outlaws had needed 22 from the last two overs but Haynes took 18 and two leg byes off Barnard, before Tom Moores found the boundary to clinch a seven-wicket win with five balls to spare. The Bears stumbled to 12 for 2 from 15 deliveries after being put in, with New Zealand batter Tom Latham – a first wicket for Sams – and Rob Yates back in the hut. Yet Hain and Alex Davies plundered 46 runs from the next 21 balls, Hain lapping McKerr for the night’s first six before Davies cleared the rope off Dillon Pennington and Sams for 58 for 2 from six overs.Davies collected his third maximum as Calvin Harrison joined the attack and though he top-edged the legspinner to be caught at deep backward square for 40 from 22 balls, the momentum remained with the Bears, who were 103 for 3 after 10, Hain having hauled a free hit deep into the Fox Road stand after Moises Henriques delivered a full toss over waist height.Barnard was quickly up to speed, one of his sixes disappearing into the sheets and scaffolding currently encasing the pavilion. He fell in search of another, superbly caught by Harrison on the run at deep midwicket to give Henriques his maiden Outlaws wicket.Sams bowled George Garton, but Hain raised his sixes tally to six with two more off the unfortunate McKerr. Warwickshire have made three of the five highest scores against Notts in this format, all made in the last five seasons, all at Trent Bridge.Clarke helped Outlaws to a superb start, the skipper hitting four sixes of his own to be 58 from 22 in a powerplay score of 88 without loss. His luck ran out when he found the fielder at deep backward square off Danny Briggs as skipper Davies brought his spinners into the game, Jake Lintoff then having Lyndon James caught at long-off.Yet Haynes and Henriques – the other Aussie allrounder making his Outlaws – put their side right back in it with an exhilarating stand of 101 in just 57 balls before the latter holed out to wide long-on for 34 (27 balls), leaving 31 needed from three overs.

'This is not Man Utd' – Ex-Tottenham star brutally explains why Harry Kane won't leave Bayern Munich for Red Devils as he weighs up Premier League return

Gus Poyet, in an exclusive chat with GOAL, has brutally explained why there is little chance of Harry Kane ending up at Manchester United if the England captain decides to return to the Premier League from Bayern Munich. There are said to be clauses in the prolific striker’s contract that could allow him to head home in 2026, but Old Trafford is not expected to be his next destination.

  • Kane's record: Stunning strike rate of Bayern and England striker

Kane stepped out of his comfort zone in 2023 when severing ties with Tottenham. He left north London as Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer and 47 efforts short of breaking Alan Shearer’s record tally in Premier League competition. It has been suggested that Kane could look to make more history there at some point, with an impressive strike rate being maintained in Germany.

Kane has reached 102 goals for Bayern through just 105 appearances in all competitions. He is a two-time Bundesliga Golden Boot winner and saw his trophy curse lifted in 2024-25 when savouring top-flight title glory at the Allianz Arena. The 32-year-old is eager to add more medals to his collection when turning out for club and country. His contract at Bayern is due to run until 2027.

Where next for Kane after Man Utd, Arsenal & Tottenham links?

Exit fees can, however, be triggered in various transfer windows. Teams around the world are said to be monitoring Kane’s situation as they consider making moves for one of the most fearsome No.9s on the planet. Leading sides in England would be expected to head the queue if an exit door were to be nudged open at Bayern. Several potential landing spots for Kane have been speculated on.

He has generated shock talk of moving to Arsenal or Chelsea in the not too distant past, while United are long-standing suitors of the Three Lions superstar. Spurs, meanwhile, have the option to match any bids that are lodged for Kane – having included that clause in the deal which took a home-grown hero off their books.

Former Tottenham midfielder Poyet, speaking via the online casino affiliate site Casino.org, told GOAL when asked where Kane could end up: “If he goes to Man United, I won’t talk about Harry Kane anymore in my life! People talk about Man United, but this is not Man United in the last few years. He won’t go to Arsenal. The rest, I don’t know. I think people would take him back at Spurs as the player he is and the legend that he is. If he can go back and help the team in a certain way, score goals and get the record, it would be amazing. I’m not sure what will happen. Maybe he won’t go back. It’s very personal, so let’s see.”

  • State of play: The latest on Kane's future

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on the state of play when it comes to Kane’s future, with teams in the Middle East also keeping a close eye on events in Bavaria. He told : "The reality is that Spurs had a priority option clause inserted into their agreement with FC Bayern for Harry Kane; if and when Kane decides to leave, Spurs will be alerted first and the same will also happen in case other clubs decide to send proposals for the English striker.

"But nothing has started at this stage and nothing is imminent; not with Spurs or any other Premier League club, amid links with Manchester United as always since Kane decided to leave Spurs years ago. Some sources also suggest Saudi Pro League clubs are monitoring Kane’s contract situation at Bayern with two years left; but that’s it for now, as his full focus remains on the German club."

Kane settled in Germany alongside wife Kate and their children

Kane has offered no indication that he is looking for a way out of Munich. He has worked hard on adjusting to the demands of life in Germany, while bringing his wife Kate and their children over to a new country. With positive progress being made on and off the pitch, there is no need for him to consider a fresh start or a retracing of steps to familiar surroundings.

For Maharaj, it's about 'building pressure and limiting boundary balls' on Pakistan belters

South Africa’s bowlers are looking forward to the chance to test themselves on batter-friendly surfaces in Pakistan, where high scores are expected to define the Champions Trophy.Since 2021, Pakistan has been home to the highest batting average in ODIs – 35.53 – and the mini tri-series which preceded the Champions Trophy saw five out of eight scores in excess of 300, including Pakistan’s highest successful ODI chase.South Africa’s white-ball bowling coach Anton Roux said he expected “the trend going around all the venues” to continue and Keshav Maharaj, South Africa’s premier spinner, believed the bowlers were up for the challenge.Related

  • Afghanistan begin with dreams to realise, South Africa with nightmares to quash

  • If the big stars align and shine, SA should make the final four

  • A critical test for ODI cricket and Pakistan as hosts

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the class within our bowling line-up stand up and sort of defend these scores,” Maharaj said from Karachi, where South Africa will play Afghanistan in their tournament opener on Friday. “Although the totals might seem high in the context of cricket it’s probably on par to get 320 these days when batting first and chasing it down in the 44th or 46th over.”It’s a nice test. As cricketers, if you’re not tested in your chosen skill, then you’re not going to challenge yourself to get better. I think it’s a wonderful advert to see the high scores and when the bowler does come out on the right side of things, it shows his class and worth within the team and the world line-up.”Maharaj recognised that this may mean a return to a more traditional containing role for him with the seamers expected to attack.”In order to get success, it’s about building pressure and just limiting the boundary balls in between,” he said. “It’s probably more of that holding role that one’s accustomed to seeing in South Africa. It’s not about changing the way I bowl, it’s just about changing the field sets that we have. I’m still trying to bowl my best ball to create opportunity, but with probably a more defensive type of field, maybe not carrying a slip for so long. That’s basically the sort of mindset.”On the evidence of the only ODI Maharaj has played in Pakistan, which was just last week, he has taken to the task well. He was South Africa’s most economical bowler on a difficult day as Pakistan chased down 353 with an over to go – going wicketless but conceding just five fours and a six in his ten overs, which included 30 dot balls. And his economy of 5.40 was a result of experimenting with ways to limit run-scoring in a place where he has found that “it doesn’t turn as much as one would think”.So Maharaj has had to rely on changes of pace instead. “You still want to try to spin the ball because the more revolutions you get on the ball, you create flight and drift,” he said. “For me, it’s about trying to play with the overspin and the sidespin and it’s more about the paces that I bowl at so that the batters can’t really line you up in terms of using their feet or getting them caught on the crease.”Tabraiz Shamsi is the only other frontline spinner in the squad•ICC/Getty Images

South Africa’s approach of using their spinners as holding bowlers and loading their squad with seamers – there are five seamers and two specialist spinners in the squad – is in keeping with what the statistics say about what kinds of bowlers have success in Pakistan. Since 2021, pace bowlers have taken 180 wickets in 44 innings at 36.02, a better average than the spinners’ 43.98, though spinners have had an economy of 5.49 to the seamers’ 6.02. That may mean the quicks can expect to get hit, which Roux said needed “critical real good planning and execution” to prevent. It also means that the batters, especially those that like the ball coming on to the bat like South Africans tend to, would be licking their lips at the prospect of big runs. Asked if the likes of Temba Bavuma, Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller have just been walking around smiling, Maharaj indicated that they were not complaining but were being careful not to count their chickens.”They’re quite happy with the conditions, but they understand that it’s not just rock up and score runs. It’s still a process and method,” Maharaj said. “When wickets are in your favour, you train that much harder because you want to make the most of the opportunity that you’re presented with. I don’t think there’s any sense of complacency even though conditions are deemed to be in the batters’ favour. You’re going to see a supercharged outfit.”

XERIFE DESENCANTOU
