While some squad members have discovered a new lease of life under Thomas Frank, especially Richarlison, the likes of Gil haven’t been given a chance to showcase their worth to the Dane.
After spending 2024/2025 on loan at Girona in La Liga, where he was a mainstay under Michel before injury ended his season, the former Sevilla sensation still hasn’t recovered or played a single minute for Frank.
Bar his devastating injury, the signs were positive for Gil last season, with the player bagging three goals and three assists over 21 top-flight starts for Girona – ending 24/25 as their third-best performer by average match rating, according to WhoScored.
Still just 24-years-old and dubbed a “very exciting” player on his day, there is still a chance that Gil can make something of his career, but it probably won’t be at Tottenham.
Speaking to Estadio Deportivo earlier this year, Gil admitted that he and Spurs are in full agreement that a move elsewhere is best for all parties.
Four years after Gil was signed for around £22 million with Erik Lamela going the other way in a part-exchange deal, technical director Johan Lange is getting to work on finding him a new club.

According to The Boy Hotspur, Tottenham have offered Gil to numerous sides, including Atalanta, which is particularly interesting because it comes amid Spurs’ links to Ademola Lookman.
Other reports suggest that Lookman’s representatives have reached out to Spurs as they look to entice Premier League suitors, with the Nigerian fresh off a 20-goal campaign in Italy and desperate to leave.
Lookman submitted a transfer request to leave the Gewiss Stadium, as confirmed by the player himself, and his talks to join Inter Milan have now fully collapsed – meaning Spurs have a real opportunity here.
Amid reports that Man City are blocking Savinho’s move to Tottenham, the 27-year-old is a very viable alternative, and perhaps the north Londoners offering Gil in exchange could sweeten a potential deal.
Otherwise, Tottenham would have to fork out around £43 million.
Newcastle United are “in the mix” to complete the signing of a player who was described as one of the “biggest revelations” from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy.

David Hopkinson has been appointed as the Magpies’ new CEO, in the biggest development at the club since the international break got underway. The 54-year-old Canadian has admitted that he cannot wait to get started in his new role, as he looks to make Newcastle supporters embrace him.
“I’m getting into this with both feet. This is not some sort of transactional assignment for me. This is where I intend to make my home. This is the community I intend to represent on every stage imaginable.
“The CEO role has an ambassadorial component to it and I want to be a great ambassador for Newcastle United and ultimately for Newcastle. My intention is to become an adopted Geordie here, but you have to earn that.”
The summer transfer window may be closed, but that hasn’t stopped Newcastle being linked with potential future signings, with one exciting name now thrown into the hat.

Speaking to The Boot Room, journalist Graeme Bailey reports that Newcastle will be “in the mix” to sign Barcelona youngster Marc Casado in 2026.
“Casado is a really interesting name to keep an eye on heading into 2026. Newcastle do need and wanted something extra in midfield and he is someone who does appeal. It remains to be seen if he is attainable in the near future, but if he is available, then Newcastle are likely to be in the mix.
“Newcastle could get a closer look at Casado in the Champions League this season as they welcome Barcelona to St James’ Park in the Champions League later this month.”
Casado is a big young talent with a bright future in the game, so the idea of Newcastle prising him away from Barca is a mouthwatering prospect, if they are able to.
The 21-year-old midfielder has racked up 42 appearances for the La Liga champions, registering six assists in that time, while scout Jacek Kulig hailed him as one of the “biggest revelations” during the 2024/25 campaign.
Whether Newcastle are able to entice Casado to St James’ Park remains to be seen, but if he is struggling to start regularly for Hansi Flick’s side, he may see a move elsewhere as best for his long-term development.

One of the standout examples of Liverpool’s successful youth sales is Fabio Carvalho.
The 23-year-old midfielder joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022 for just £5m, having made 44 appearances for the Cottagers, scoring 12 goals and registering eight assists.
Jürgen Klopp was a fan of the young talent, seeing in him a player with the vision and technical ability that the Bundesliga’s official website claimed was reminiscent of Florian Wirtz.
Carvalho’s time at Anfield, however, was challenging. Like Wirtz in the embryonic stages of his Anfield stay, he has struggled.
The former Fulham man made just 21 appearances for Liverpool, scoring three goals, including a dramatic last-minute winner against Newcastle, but he struggled to cement a regular starting role.
Loan spells at RB Leipzig and Hull City followed, before a permanent move to Brentford last summer for £27.5m.
The sale represented a 450% profit on Liverpool’s initial investment, showcasing the club’s ability to develop talent and sell at the right moment.

He also generated 5.66 shot-creating actions per 90. The statistical comparison underlines why Liverpool opted to sell Carvalho.
Wirtz clearly outdoes him in multiple attacking metrics, particularly in goal contributions, progressive play, and chance creation.
However, Carvalho’s style, combining technical vision and composure, suggests that with regular game time he could still flourish in a competitive Premier League environment, as he has begun to at Brentford.
Ultimately, the sale of Carvalho demonstrates Liverpool’s dual strategy: build a squad capable of competing at the highest level, while monetising promising academy talent to reinvest in first-team needs.
Whilst it may be upsetting to see promising talent move on, the club’s market strategy highlights a balance between ambition and smart business.

Juventus coach Igor Tudor expressed his fury after his side conceded a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday. There's regret for not having closed it out sooner; we had two chances with [Jonathan] David and at 3-1 it would have been over. Too much frenzy and nervousness, too many simple misplaced passes.”
Finally, he accepted the shared point, adding: “We pushed hard in the second half, a great second half, they were better in the first. We'll take this point and move on.”
Tudor's defence of his backline
Juventus have conceded 11 goals in their last five games across all competitions, including seven against Inter and Dortmund. However, Tudor spoke highly of his defenders, believing they have done well and kept things from going worse.
“The three at the back are all doing well, they keep the team afloat every game,” he added: “We're a bit lacking in ball possession, we're last in this statistic. The team is there, it would be nice to play at a high level for 90 minutes, but it's not easy. We also have our weaknesses and our difficulties.”

Speaking to the broadcaster at the innings break, he said it was a good total, given there had not been much dew until then.Earlier, after RR sent GT in, Jofra Archer once again gave his side an early breakthrough. In RR’s previous game, he had bowled Punjab Kings’ Priyansh Arya first ball. Tonight, he pegged back Shubman Gill’s off stump with the first ball of his second over.But Sai Sudharsan carried on with his sublime form. He ramped, scooped, drove and cut, and steered his side to 50 in 5.1 overs. At the end of the powerplay, he was batting on 39 off 22.
