Wolverhampton Wanderers fans will hope the Vitor Pereira bubble doesn’t burst heading into January, as ex-Old Gold boss Nuno Espirito Santo prepares to bring his high-flying Nottingham Forest troops to Molineux next in Premier League action.
Before that fixture gets underway on the 6th, however, there will be plenty of eyes on the transfer window swinging back open, with fears growing in the air that a higher up poacher could win Matheus Cunha at some stage across the hectic month.
On the contrary, Pereira picking up two wins and a draw from his opening three games in charge might well mean the Brazilian star isn’t tempted by a move away.
On top of having to stay alert regarding outgoings, Wolves will also be looking to add in some players this January to maintain positive spirits around Molineux.
Wolves' search for a striker
As reported late last week, Wolves are looking to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach star Tim Kleindienst when the window reopens in order to boost their attacking ranks even more.
The suggestion is that the Old Gold have asked for more information on the explosive German, who is also on the radar of Everton as they too search for more goals to aid their ongoing battle against the drop.
Now capped by his nation at a senior level after showing off his deadliness in front of goal in the Bundesliga, it remains to be seen whether the breakout 29-year-old could make a name for himself in a similar manner in England.
If the £39k-per-week striker enters the English game with this same goalscoring prowess coursing through his veins, he would be a big upgrade on Nordic attacker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has impressed those at Wolves this season with his own promising displays up top.
What Kleindienst would offer Wolves
Coming in at a towering 6 foot 4 frame – which is identical to Larsen’s own imposing build – Kleindienst can boast that he has more goals next to his name playing in Germany this season than the Wolves number nine has managed to tally up.
In total, the Gladbach ace has fired home a stunning nine strikes in the Bundesliga, whilst also picking up four assists, with Larsen just coming up short in contrast with seven goals and two assists himself.
Always just finding himself in the right place at the right time to power home a strike, it’s been a remarkable rise for Kleindienst, who had been playing in the lower depths of German football most of his playing days before Gladbach swooped in.
Everywhere he has been to date, Kleindienst has proven himself to largely be a goal machine, with anticipation in the air that he could be prolific for Wolves all the same if a big move was to occur.

As can be seen looking at the table above, the in-demand 29-year-old has been a success at every step he has played at in his native country, with 103 career goals tallied up across Germany’s top three divisions.
Whilst Larsen has been a success at points this season for the Old Gold, he only boasts one goal from his last six league games, with Kleindienst – who is an “exquisite one-touch player”, according to The Athletic’s Seb Stafford-Bloor – perhaps the better option as a lofty centre-forward if a move can be reached.
Tim Kleindienst
Wolves majorly gambled on Hwang Hee-chan to work when snapping him up from RB Leipzig, and that move has worked for the most part with two goals coming his way under Pereira’s short stint so far.
Everyone at Molineux would be hoping Kleindienst can be a success story too, in what would be a dream first signing for Pereira, with his crucial contributions potentially seeing the Old Gold rise up the league and away from any relegation danger.

Currently embroiled in a fierce race to win automatic promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United are reportedly readying a bid to sign a Championship midfielder who is worth as much as £8m.
Leeds transfer news
Those at Elland Road certainly don’t need to be informed just how important the transfer window can be. Just six months ago, they found themselves ripped apart by Premier League interest which saw Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville all depart. It was then that they had no choice but to welcome reinforcements of their own in the form of Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle, Largie Ramazanai and a number of others.
Not looking back since, the Whites are once again on course for promotion and should be among the favourites to return to the Premier League at just the second time of asking under Daniel Farke.
That’s not to say further arrivals are unlikely in this month’s transfer window, however, with names such as Burnley winger Mike Tresor and former Everton defender Ben Godfrey already mentioned in the early stages and another target now stealing the headlines.
According to Leeds United News, Leeds are now ready to submit their first bid to sign Ben Sheaf from Coventry City, who reportedly value their midfielder at a hefty £8m this month.
Leeds United’s 10 best managers of all time ranked by win percentage
The Whites are going for promotion back to the Premier League once again under Daniel Farke, but where does he rank among the best Leeds managers?
ByCharlie Smith Jan 4, 2025
It’s certainly worth testing Coventry’s resolve on that price tag though, given how they need to use this month and potentially the summer transfer window to balance the books and could, therefore, be left with no choice but to sell Sheaf.
As for the midfielder, himself, the prospect of swapping the Sky Blues for a move to Elland Road may be a difficult one to resist even as club captain given Coventry’s current struggles and Leeds’ pursuit of promotion. Whether that temptation is enough to seal a winter move remains to be seen, however.
"Versatile" Sheaf could take Leeds to promotion
A leader during his time at Coventry, Sheaf has earned the chance to take a side of Leeds’ calibre to the Premier League, but the Whites must first endure successful negotiations with the Sky Blues, who will not want to lose one of their key men so early into Frank Lampard’s tenure.
At 26 years old, the move would also be coming at an ideal time for Sheaf as he steps into his best years as a midfielder and potentially partners the likes of Ethan Ampadu and Tanaka at the heart of Farke’s side gunning for the title.
It’s a rise that former Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Moore saw coming almost five years ago, telling reporters as relayed by The Coventry Telegraph in 2020: “He is a versatile player, equally as comfortable in defence as he is in midfield.
“He’s a lovely footballer. He plays well off either foot, he’s a good technician. He’s got good size and structure and he moves well. He’s got a good eye for a pass and is an intelligent footballer. Those are the types of players that we want to sign here going forward.”
A £50,000-a-week Everton player is now believed to be pushing to leave the club during the January transfer window, having grown frustrated with his time on Merseyside.
Everton manager latest
The Blues had a weekend off after their Premier League clash at home to Liverpool was postponed due to bad weather, in what would have been the final meeting between the two rivals at Goodison Park. The hope is that Everton having a breather could allow them to recharge ahead of a busy festive period, in what is a crucial run of fixtures for Sean Dyche, as he continues to battle to save his job. While he is safe for the time being, it hasn’t stopped other managers being linked with replacing him.
Everton manager Sean Dyche
The Blues are reported to have contacted former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao about coming in at Goodison, but it is claimed that he would prefer to take charge at West Ham instead, with Julen Lopetegui currently under huge pressure at the London Stadium.
Meanwhile, a reunion with David Moyes at Everton doesn’t appear to have been ruled out, with the Scot also seen as an option to come in and take charge for the second time. It is a move that could be met with a mix of positivity and negativity among the fanbase, with some rating him highly after a great first spell there, but others wanting a younger, more attack-minded manager brought in.
Everton player pushing for January exit
On the transfer front, a fresh claim from Tuttomercatoweb [via Sport Witness] states that Everton striker Beto wants to leave the club in January, due to his lack of playing time this season. Serie A side Torino are looking to get a deal over the line – one that could cost as much as £16.5m – with a loan move with an option to buy being mooted.
Roma are also mentioned as potential suitors, but it is Torino who are holding talks already with Beto and his agents.
Beto has been a hugely disappointing signing for Everton since arriving last year, scoring just seven goals in 48 appearances, not producing the level of ruthlessness that was expected of him in the final third when he joined.
For that reason, it makes sense to sanction his exit in January, assuming Dominic Calvert-Lewin stays put, amid doubts over his own future at Goodison. Losing both strikers would make no sense, even if replacements came in, not allowing them time to get used to their new surroundings at a crucial point in the season.
Granted, Everton are in no rush to sell Beto, considering he is contracted at the club until the summer of 2027, but he hasn’t shown anywhere near enough consistent quality in a Blues shirt.

Should the right offer come along, Everton have to consider accepting it, receiving good money for a failed signing and keeping Calvert-Lewin until next summer before making a decision on him at that point.
Manchester City are now ready to sanction a player sale, which will help them to sign a new £70 million defender, according to a recent report. Pep Guardiola’s side continued their terrible run of form on Wednesday night, as they were beaten 2-0 in the Champions League by Juventus, putting their chances of qualification in severe jeopardy.

It is now just one win from their last ten games in all competitions for City and Guardiola, and with their season in danger of falling apart, January could be arriving at a good time, as the Blues have their eye on potential arrivals.
The first player City are looking to sign in January is midfielder Ederson from Atalanta. The Blues have been missing Rodri since he suffered his season-ending injury, and now, they believe Ederson is the man to replace him. The Italian side want to keep hold of the Brazilian, but a deal could be done for around £42 million.
City are also seriously considering signing Antonee Robinson from Fulham in January. The USA international is under contract until 2028, and it will cost City £40 million to get a deal over the line in 2025.
Man City ready to sanction Dias sale to sign England star
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are considering the sale of Ruben Dias, so they can sign a new centre back, with Marc Guehi the main man on their shortlist.
Dias, who earns £180,000 a week, has been at the Etihad since 2020, when he joined from Benfica, and during his time there, he has been a key part of the defence that has won Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League titles. The Portuguese has even gone on to captain the City team on numerous occasions, but he could soon be on his way out.
This report states that City are considering a “reluctant” sale of Dias so they can bring in a new centre-back. The club are keen to refresh their squad with top young talents, and Guardiola is aware that he needs to strengthen his defence, so is keen to bring in a new centre-back either in January or the summer at the latest.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi celebrates
City are interested in signing Crystal Palace’s Guehi, who was labelled as being “great” in the summer by John Stones, and have placed him on their transfer shortlist. City are keeping a close eye on his situation, and he could be available for less than £80 million; Palace were looking to get £70 million during the summer. However, his arrival is likely to depend on an exit, and Dias’ name is the one being mentioned.

There are a number of teams interested in signing Dias, with Chelsea very interested in a potential deal. Furthermore, Dias remains focused on helping City, but he would also be open to taking on a new challenge at an elite European club.
Already eyeing his first arrival at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim has reportedly told INEOS to sign a left-back upgrade on Luke Shaw in 2025, with Manchester United now set to hold internal talks.
Man Utd transfer news
There’s plenty of work to be done at Manchester United. Erik ten Hag joined an increasing list of names to have failed at Old Trafford since the Sir Alex Ferguson era, with the vintage United DNA rapidly becoming nothing more than a slogan. However, Amorim has the chance to finally stop that trend.
After his success at Sporting CP – even defeating Manchester City in his final home game – the young manager will be desperate to finally turn the Red Devils back towards success.
Amorim, like INEOS and sporting director Dan Ashworth, should be well aware of just how many reinforcements the current United side needs after the Ten Hag era saw transfer flops like Antony arrive – and the transfer rumours are seemingly already underway on that front.

According to CaughtOffside, Amorim has told INEOS to sign Alvaro Carreras in what would be an upgrade on the injury-prone Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. The left-back position has been an area of concern for some time at Old Trafford, with Diogo Dalot forced to fill in instead of playing his natural right-back role – but Carreras could quickly solve that problem.
Of course, the Red Devils could have saved themselves some money by simply keeping hold of the 21-year-old instead of sanctioning his permanent move to Benfica, but learning from their mistakes is key. With Manchester United set to hold internal talks over the left-back position and holding a buy-back clause for the 21-year-old, Carreras could be one of the first names mentioned.
"Exciting" Carreras can replace Luke Shaw
Once dubbed “one of Carrington’s most exciting talents” by Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig, it’s still slightly baffling as to why Manchester United allowed Carreras to complete a permanent move away during the summer.
After all, Shaw’s injury problems are no secret; they’ve followed him for the majority of his career. At such a young age, Carreras should have always been lined up to replace the England international.
With the chance to make things right in 2025, the Red Devils have the opportunity to welcome Carreras back with open arms to replace Shaw once and for all at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, for the left-back himself, he should see a second spell as the chance to prove previous doubters wrong in the Premier League.
If the defender is truly among Amorim’s initial targets, INEOS may well be wise to hand the former Sporting boss the perfect welcome gift and rewrite their regretful decision last summer in the process.

Both sides make just one change with a flatter pitch expected at the SCG and some wet weather forecast
Alex Malcolm04-Jan-2022Big PictureIt feels like an eternity since the end of the Boxing Day Test with the early finish on the morning of day three plus a later start to the New Year’s Test in Sydney only adding to the wait. But there is not much to wait for as the SCG prepares to host yet another Ashes dead rubber. Sydney cricket fans have not seen an Ashes Test where the urn is still to be decided since 1994-95, although the 1998-99 and 2010-11 series could still have been drawn there.Australia are in a luxurious position having secured the Ashes inside 12 days. They have lost Travis Head due to Covid-19 but there is a ready replacement in Usman Khawaja with 44 Tests experience and eight Test match centuries including one in the last Ashes Test played at the SCG four years ago. They have a bevy of fast bowlers to choose from and can now afford to look forward to their Asian tours mid-year although they have resisted the urge to give legspinner Mitchell Swepson a debut with the future in mind.England’s tour has gone from bad to worse with nine members of the support staff contracting Covid-19, including coach Chris Silverwood. As a result, their preparation in Sydney has been disjointed and challenging. Pressure remains on both Silverwood and captain Joe Root in terms of their leadership futures beyond this series while the ECB has taken fire from all quarters over the state of England’s red-ball cricket.Unlike some of the random Sydney selections England have made on the previous two tours, they are set to make one change with Stuart Broad returning to the side in place of Ollie Robinson while the batters get another chance to atone for a horror showing in Melbourne.Form guide (most recent first) Australia WWWLD England LLLLWPat Cummins relaxes ahead of a team photo at the SCG•Getty ImagesIn the spotlightUsman Khawaja has not played Test cricket since he was dropped during the 2019 Ashes series. On that occasion he was squeezed out due to Marnus Labuschagne’s form and again in this series he was on the wrong end of a tight selection call at the Gabba. Now with a first-team player out with Covid-19, Khawaja has an opportunity, not unlike Labuschange’s in 2019. He can create a real headache for Australia’s selectors with a big score in Sydney and make a case to return to the side permanently.Jonny Bairstow has played one Test fewer than Steven Smith and is on his third Ashes tour of Australia. Although he was rushed in without any red-ball match preparation for the MCG Test, on the most challenging surface of the tour to-date, he showed he has the class and skill to counter Australia’s pacemen with 35 in the first innings. He then fell the wrong side of a 50-50 lbw call in the second. At 32, he still has a lot of time to add to his six Test hundreds and improve his overall Test record. England need him desperately to do so and a good batting pitch in Sydney is the perfect place to start.Related

The weather could well play a factor with showers forecast throughout the game.Stats and trivia England’s record at the SCG is better than any other venue in Australia. They have won 22 times in 56 Tests and it is the site of their last Test victory in Australia in 2011. Khawaja has been in and out of Australia’s Test team several times since his debut in the fifth Ashes Test in 2010-11. But this is his longest stretch between Test appearances having last played in August 2019. His previous longest was two years and three months between August 2013 and November 2015. Nathan Lyon averages 40.94 with the ball at the SCG, his least effective ground in Australia where he has played multiple Tests. Mitchell Starc averages 42.30 at the SCG, his worst ground in Australia by some margin. England’s average of 18.75 runs per dismissal is their worst average in any Ashes series of three or more matches played in Australia. England averaged 20.20 in 1882 but won that series 2-1. Those guys in that dressing room really care about it and we’ve got to sort of find a way of showing that now in the field.” “Traditionally here over the last 10 years, it’s been pretty hard work for the bowlers. I don’t see a lot that’s going to be different this week. There’s a bit of grass, there’s going to be a bit of weather. I don’t think we’re going to see it break up and turn or have that traditional kind of dusty spinning wicket from maybe 10-plus years ago. We’ll wait and see but it looks really even at the moment.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been another “blow” as one member of his squad deals with a hip problem, coming amid the Gunners’ mounting list of injuries.
Arsenal players out injured and unavailable for selection
The north Londoners are forced to contend without a few important players in the run-up to October and beyond. Their biggest loss – club captain and chief creator Martin Odegaard – isn’t expected to be back in action for a while after he was forced with ankle ligament damage in Norway’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League win over Austria earlier this month.

Odegaard is set to be sidelined for weeks, according to Arteta and reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, who elaborates by sharing the club’s concern for their star player.
“They are, obviously (concerned),” said Romano. “He’s a crucial player. He’s the captain. He’s a fantastic player. So, obviously, they know this injury is a problem for them.
“But at the same time, they hope it’s not super long. So, in this moment, in terms of medical staff, they are doing their best to have Martin back as soon as possible. For sure, we will have to be patient. It’s not something imminent. It will take weeks before we see Odegaard back to action.
“What they always mention to me is that they absolutely want Martin to return when he’s 100% fit. They can’t accept a new injury for Martin Odegaard later in the season, when they’re going to compete, they hope, for all the main titles.
“So Arsenal absolutely want Martin to take his time to return when he’s 100% fit. And this is going to be the mission of the staff, for sure.”
Meanwhile, summer signing Mikel Merino won’t return for weeks either, having fractured his shoulder during his first ever training session at London Colney – in what was a real stroke of bad luck following a collision with Gabriel Magalhaes

Left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is out with a calf injury too – which forced the Ukranian to sit out of their trio of blockbuster clashes against Tottenham, Atalanta and Man City – and it appears they may have another long-term absentee.
Tommy Setford out injured in another "blow" for Arsenal
As per Standard Sport, young summer signing from Ajax – goalkeeper Tommy Setford – is also sidelined. Setford has suffered a hip injury at Arsenal, which was described as a “blow” for Arteta, and it is unclear just how long the 18-year-old will be out for. Jurrien Timber’s former teammate at Ajax, who has earned caps for England at academy level, possesses a growing reputation and has been described as a “big talent”.
“We welcome Tommy to Arsenal. He is a young goalkeeper with big potential and we look forward to supporting his development in the coming years,” said academy manager Per Mertesacker after his arrival from the Netherlands.
“The first step on Tommy’s development pathway with us will be to integrate into our under-21s academy group and train regularly with our first team goalkeeping group.”
