Jesse Ryder’s first century in the competition paved the way a 78-run victory for Essex over Hampshire in their NatWest Twenty20 Blast at Chelmsford.The New Zealander destroyed the visiting attack with an unbeaten 107 from just 55 deliveries, eight of which he smashed for six. The last of those carried him into three figures and he also scored eight fours in an exhibition that earned him a standing ovation as Essex finished on 212 for 5.Insights

Although Hampshire have still been winning matches their seam bowling has been a concern this season. Apart from Fidel Edwards, who is now playing in the CPL, none of their seamers have an economy rate of less than 8.73. In fact other than Yasir Arafat none of them have an economy rate of lower than 9.28. Spinners Danny Briggs and Will Smith have been carrying the attack. It was not until this match that they ran into an opposition batting order who punished the weakness – although Chris Wood did keep his figures intact. With Sean Ervine still out injured Hampshire should consider an emergency signing.

Sharing the limelight with Ryder was Mark Pettini as they put together an opening partnership of 126 in 14 overs. Pettini’s share of that was 74 in 45 balls as he helped himself to three sixes among his dozen boundaries before he was brilliantly caught at deep mid-wicket by a diving Gareth Berg to give spinner Will Smith his only wicket.No other batsman managed to reach double figures but that was of little consolation for Hampshire as Essex collected their sixth success in the competition to move level with Kent at the top of the South Group table.The only visiting bowler to escape the carnage was Chris Wood, his four overs costing 29 runs and earning him the wicket of James Foster.Hampshire began their reply needing to get off to a flying start to mount any sort of challenge but it was not to be.In the first three overs, they lost as many wickets, Reece Topley bowling James Vince and then having Michael Carberry caught on the square leg boundary for eight. In between, David Masters sent back Joe Gatting as Ryan tenDoeschate accepted a catch at deep mid-off.One-time Essex batsman Owais Shah did his best to repair the damage but having struck three fours and a six in making 26 from 20 balls, he was magnificently caught by ten Doeschate at wide mid-on after he dived to his right to pluck the ball an inch or so off the ground.After that, and with the score now 57 for 4, Hampshire were left with the task of trying to bring some sense of respectability to their challenge.When medium-pace man Ravi Bopara came into the attack he soon put Hampshire into even deeper trouble with three wickets in an over, those of Jimmy Adams, Smith and Berg to leave the scoreboard looking a sorry 66for 7.Bopara, who was appearing in his 100th domestic T20 match finished with 3 for 23 while Topley claimed 3 for 25 as Essex ended a sequence of six successive defeats against Hampshire, dismissed for only 134, in this competition

Uncapped 22-year-old allrounder Nicola Carey will replace allrounder Grace Harris, who is suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT), in Australia Women’s World T20 squad.Australia’s team doctor Leanne Hutchison said: “Grace has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and started treatment for the condition. ‘Need more consistency from top order – Taylor

Having controlled the controllable by beating India, West Indies were faced with a nervous-yet-optimistic wait to see if they made it through to the semi-finals of the Women’s World Twenty20 for the fourth time in a row. The result was all but confirmed somewhere halfway through Pakistan’s chase against England, when it became evident that an upset wasn’t on the cards. A Pakistan win would have left three teams tied on six points.West Indies’ victory was engineered by two of their most talismanic cricketers. Stafanie Taylor started off as a basher who wanted to emulate Chris Gayle. Over time, she has managed to find a middle path, seamlessly switching between attack and a slightly more mellow brand of cricket that has worked beautifully for a West Indies side, which, despite all the talent, is far from having a pool of the kind Australia and England enjoy.Taylor’s tournament scores of 40, 40, 35 and 47 are testimony to the responsibility she had handled admirably, even as Deandra Dottin, one of the cleanest strikers in the women’s game, overcame a few hiccups to come good when it mattered most. She may not play textbook cricket, but how effective her methods were was for everyone to see on Sunday in a must-win game.Having waited for a brief while to see off India’s spinners, Taylor quickly realised it would be a futile exercise. Some of us think that you have to actually hit the ball to get runs, but space is always there,” she said. “The partnership between Dottin and I was very crucial. We lost wickets and needed to rebuild, we did that and it was fantastic.”Normally not known to be too expressive, Taylor went a step further and elaborated on why the transformation in their batting had come about. “We’re not getting the consistency that we actually want in the top order, which means most of us have to try and dig deep in the innings and hence we get to low totals because we don’t get the start we actually want,” she said. “It’s a different ball game now. Hopefully, we get to the semi-final and we just have to go there and bring our A game.”Questions about the nature of the surface were inevitable, even as reports in the local media suggested the Indian men’s team had requested a turner, forcing a late switch. It was put to Taylor that the pitch was slow, but she had a different assessment. “I think it was easier than where we were last [in Dharamsala] and I think India got the better half of the wicket,” she said. “They did some smart bowling and we ended up with 115 and we knew that we have to bowl tight.”We were hoping for 125-130 but we didn’t get that, but got 115. With the bowling that we have, we had to see how much we could try and minimise them in the first six and not let them get away. Our plan was to get Mithali Raj early and that’s what happened and that pushed them back. We could pull back the game then. After the first six, I thought we did a good job and in the end the way we pulled back was good. Think it was a good game.”She may have made it sound easy, but there was mild panic in the camp as Jhulan Goswami set about thwarting West Indies’ designs. She kept chipping the singles and then unfurled a big six, her only one in a 19-ball 25, to bring the equation down to 12 off nine balls.”I was actually thinking, ‘How could I let this happen again?’ We knew how to bowl to her but sometimes when you’re in a tense situation, things just get out of your hand,” Taylor said. “We knew we had to get her out and win the game because she’s a fantastic striker of the ball and she did well for them. Also, me pulling back the game by giving Deandra ten runs to defend was actually good.”With 10 needed off the final over, she could either turn to Shaquana Quintyne’s legspin or Dottin’s mix of seam-ups and cutters. Even before the final ball of the penultimate over was bowled, Dottin was seen running up and having a word to the captain, almost as if to suggest she wanted the ball at any cost. Taylor entrusted her the responsibility, and it worked.”There wasn’t any talk really,” she laughed, when asked of the plan. “I just decided that I was the more experienced one to bowl the penultimate one and I know that if I could get Deandra runs to work with, she will definitely pull it off with ten runs on the board. I mean I should have tried to give her more but it didn’t happen. But with ten runs, I definitely thought she could do it.”

Fast bowler Ryan Duffield and batsman Jonathan Wells are among the inclusions in Western Australia’s contract list for the 2016-17 season. Opening batsman Jake Carder and fast bowler Josh Nicholas have also earned deals after making their first-class debuts last summer, while fast bowler Jhye Richardson and spinner Liam O’Connor have been upgraded from rookie contracts.Batsman Tom Beaton has been left out from last year’s list following a summer in which he played only three Sheffield Shield matches, while Marcus Harris has moved to Victoria and Matt Dixon has headed to Essex. Gabigol foi o principal responsável pela conquista da Copa Libertadores. Neste sábado, o atacante do Flamengo, artilheiro da competição com nove gols marcados, fez dois gols na vitória por 2 a 1 sobre o River Plate, em Lima, no Peru. Antes da festa, o jogador vibrou com o resultado e convocou a torcida para comemorar o troféu.

– Realmente é um momento histórico. É agradecer muito a Deus e convocar todos do Rio de Janeiro, porque o Rio acabou, o Rio é nosso. Não tenho ideia do que vai acontecer, mas quero convocar todos os flamenguistas para a comemoração. Vamos invadir o Rio – disse.

A comemoração junto à torcida será na Candelária. O time subirá em um trio elétrico para fazer uma passeata pela Avenida Presidente Vargas até a Estátua do Zumbi dos Palmares. Diante dessa nova informação, a PM pede que a torcida não vá ao aeroporto. Haverá bloqueios e todo tipo de segurança no local.

Depois de 38 anos, o Flamengo conquistou pela segunda vez a taça da Copa Libertadores. A primeira vez aconteceu em 1981.

Depois de conquistar os Campeonatos Brasileiros com o time principal e na categoria sub-17, o Flamengo vai em busca de mais um título nacional. Dessa vez, do Sub-20. Mas, para isso, o time rubro-negro tem uma missão difícil, neste domingo, às 14h, no estádio Kleber Andrade, em Cariacica. Depois de perder para o Palmeiras por 1 a 0 no primeiro jogo, no Pacaembu, o Fla precisa vencer por dois gols de diferença para ficar com o título. Em caso de vitória por um gol, a decisão vai para os pênaltis.

Mas essa situação não assusta os garotos do Ninho do Urubu. O goleiro Hugo Souza, titular do Flamengo neste domingo, esbanjou confiança na conquista de mais este título.

– Não é difícil reverter porque a gente sabe da qualidade do nosso time e temos certeza que vamos sair daqui campeões. Sabemos muito bem do que a gente é capaz de fazer, de conquistar e dessa vez não vai ser diferente. Todo mundo vai entrar em campo sabendo o que tem que fazer para sair daqui com o título – disse Hugo ao LANCE!

Ainda que tenha mostrado confiança na vitória, o goleiro também falou sobre o que time precisa fazer para sair com um resultado melhor do que no primeiro jogo, vencido pelo Palmeiras com gol de Gabriel Silva logo aos cinco minutos de partida.

– O que a gente tem que fazer é minimizar os erros, acertar o que a gente errou no primeiro jogo pra gente sair com a vitória. Vai ser importante nós estarmos unidos desde o início, vamos ter que correr atrás do resultado.

O Botafogo, aos poucos, vai se acertando financeiramente. Nesta sexta-feira, o clube realizou o pagamento junto aos funcionários da sede de General Severiano e do Estádio Nilton Santos referente a dois meses de salários, que estavam atrasados, e da primeira parcela do 13º. A informação foi dada pelos portais “Fogo na Rede” e “Canal do TF” e confirmada pelo LANCE!.

Na última semana, a diretoria do Alvinegro já havia quitado os vencimentos dos meses de setembro e outubro com os jogadores do elenco profissional. Agora, foi a vez dos funcionários e dos atletas que atuam nas categorias de base. Para isto, o Botafogo conseguiu a liberação de uma verba que estava presa referente à direitos de imagem com a TV Globo.

Como o pagamento foi realizado por meio de cheque, em General Severiano, alguns funcionários terão o dinheiro entrando na conta nesta sexta-feira e outros no começo da próxima semana, no máximo até terça-feira. De todo modo, o pagamento já está realizado.

Agora, a cúpula alvinegra está com os vencimentos referentes ao mês de novembro, que venceram justamente nesta sexta-feira, com jogadores e funcionários da sede e do estádio, além da segunda parcela do 13º.

O Botafogo busca um acordo para resolver a situação de Leonardo Valencia. Não é novidade que o chileno está fora dos planos da diretoria do Alvinegro para 2020, como Carlos Augusto Montenegro, ex-presidente havia afirmado na reunião do Conselho Deliberativo, na última semana. O novo comitê de futebol iniciou conversas com o estafe do meio-campista para uma possível liberação do contrato.

Enquanto isto não se confirma, o Botafogo permitiu que o atleta inicie procuras para um novo clube para atuar em 2020. Leonardo Valencia tem contrato com o Alvinegro até junho e ainda não recebeu, como os outros jogadores do atual elenco, os salários referentes ao mês de dezembro e a segunda parcela do 13º.

Se o estafe do chileno não achar uma boa proposta e, consequentemente, um novo clube para Valencia, ele ficará no Botafogo. O Alvinegro, com dificuldades financeiras, não pode rescindir o contrato do meio-campista porque sabe que terá que arcar com multas, algo completamente descartado pela diretoria. Tudo vai depender, portanto, do camisa 20 encontrar um novo lar.

O Botafogo não vai oferecer dificuldades para a saída de Valencia. Além de não cobrar nenhum tipo de valor para outro clube que possa estar interessado no chileno, o Alvinegro também busca conversar com o estafe do jogador para buscar a saída menos conturbada em termos financeiros.

O desejo do Alvinegro é costurar um acordo para pagar os atrasados e liberar o meio-campista sem arcar com custos de uma possível rescisão. A verdade é que muito provavelmente Leonardo Valencia não se reapresenta para a pré-temporada do Glorioso em janeiro de 2020.

A situação é similar a que o próprio Leonardo Valencia passou pelo Botafogo na metade da temporada. O meio-campista e seus representantes haviam sentado com Anderson Barros, então diretor de futebol, responsável por avisar que o jogador estava liberado para procurar um novo clube e que o Alvinegro não iria dificultar a saída. O chileno, contudo, não encontrou uma transferência e permaneceu no clube de General Severiano.

Valencia chegou ao Botafogo com alarde, na metade de 2017, para a disputa da fase mata-mata da Taça Libertadores, após uma passagem de destaque no Palestino-CHI. Na época, o meio-campista era uma presença constante na seleção chilena – inclusive atuando na Copa das Confederações daquele ano, disputada na Rússia. No seu país natal, a imprensa dá conta de que o Colo-Colo é um possível destino.
