Cricket Australia newly-formed integrity unit has punished four BBL teams for failing to complete their contract reporting duties.The Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat have each been handed a partially-suspended fine of $10,000 for what Cricket Australia stressed were “administrative oversights”. In a statement, CA said there was no suggestion that any side had breached the BBL’s salary cap.However, the four teams failed to meet the deadline to submit statutory declarations that were required to accompany a report to CA providing full details of all payments made to players. The statutory declarations, which confirm that the information in the contract reports is a true, complete and accurate record, have since been submitted by all four sides.The four teams have each been fined $5000 with an additional $5000 fine suspended for three years, a decision made by the integrity unit after it reviewed the reasons given by the teams for their non-compliance.Cricket Australia’s integrity unit was established in December 2013 following an integrity review conducted by the former AFL executive Adrian Anderson. Its brief includes, among other things, overseeing CA’s anti-corruption measures, code of behaviour issues, anti-doping programme and management of competition regulations.

Sunil Gavaskar, the interim BCCI president for the IPL, has admitted that two cricketers reported approaches this season, and that the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) officials had been alerted to it.Asked if players had been approached during this year’s IPL, Gavaskar replied: “There have been a couple and it has been reported to ACSU. They are looking into it.”He also said that issue regarding Brendon McCullum being approached by bookies is something to be concerned about. “I can assure you that the leak did not come from the IPL. I don’t know where it came from. It’s an issue to be concerned [about]. I have to say we have got an integrity officer attached with every team this time. It has made it a lot easier for players to communicate.”Sometimes players didn’t know what to do. Okay, there was a number to contact. But a lot of people [players] were thinking if you contact it, does your number come under their list. The anonymity and confidentiality aspect was something the players were not sure about.”Now with the integrity officer attached to every team, it has become a lot easier. If there has been an approach, people go and tell the officer so that he takes it forward.”Gavaskar said he has also been seeking suggestions from the legends of Indian cricket to help youngsters deal with various pressures of being a part of the IPL. “I called up four legends of the game… Sachin [Tendulkar], Anil [Kumble], VVS [Laxman] and Rahul [Dravid]. They are contemporary cricketers. They know the current pressures, tensions and situations our cricketers deal with,” Gavaskar said. “The IPL is a hugely covered event. It is way bigger than the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy or the Vijay Hazare Trophy, so sometimes it is easy for youngsters to get carried away.”Indian cricket could end up losing these talented youngsters. Or they could end up losing valuable years till they realise that sport is a great leveller and can bring you down to earth very, very quickly. We have to take care of that situation.”Based on the suggestions from the famous quartet, Gavaskar along with his colleagues in the IPL governing council intend to formulate a plan to groom youngsters. “This is something that the IPL GC was thinking of. From here, it will go to the BCCI working committee and hopefully from there it will take wing.”The programme, once ratified by the working committee, is likely to be implemented during the off-season, when barring the touring Indian team, the other cricketers will be in India. “After the IPL, it will be an off-season for most of the cricketers apart from those who are selected to tour England and the few other players who play league cricket in England. Majority of the players will be in India and during the time we could have an ongoing programme. The BCCI will very soon have the programme under way.”Gavaskar also announced that the BCCI is in discussion with Tendulkar and Dravid to pitch in for improving the standards of cricket by interacting frequently with cricketers from smaller centres.”Sachin and Rahul are wonderful role models to help the youngsters. I think we can have them talk to youngsters and raise the standards of the sport. This matter will also be discussed in BCCI,” Gavaskar said. “Most of our cricketers come from small places. Somebody like Mahi (MS Dhoni), he’s an inspiration to budding cricketers from lesser known towns. The thing to do is to spread the net wide. That is something the BCCI must capitalise on but I’m here only for a short term… mine is really a T20 innings.”

‘Pollard, Starc should have been banned’

Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Starc have been fined for their heated altercation during the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6. Pollard lost 75% of his match fee while Starc was penalised 50% by match referee Andy Pycroft.Both players admitted to level 2 offences under the IPL’s code of conduct, under which the penalties for a first offence range from a fine of between 50-100% of match fee and/or a suspension of up to two matches.Pollard was charged under article 2.2.7 of the code, which deals with, “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a player, team official, umpire, match referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a match.”Starc was charged under article 2.2.11, which deals with, “where the facts of the alleged incident are not adequately or clearly covered by any of the above offences, conduct that either: (a) is contrary to the spirit of the game; or (b) brings the game into disrepute.”The incident occurred in the 17th over of Mumbai’s innings. Starc bowled a bouncer at Pollard, who was beaten as he attempted a hook. Starc went up to the batsman and spoke a few words and Pollard’s reaction was to wave him off. As Starc ran in to bowl the next ball, Pollard pulled out of the delivery by backing away outside leg stump just as the bowler was approaching his jump. Starc did not abort the delivery, though; instead he followed the batsman and bowled the ball in anger close to Pollard’s legs. Pollard responded by swinging his bat hard – appearing to threaten to throw it at the bowler – and it slipped out of his hand and fell on the leg side. Both players were visibly angry and continued to exchange words.Starc later ran Pollard out, but before swatting the bail off he taunted the hopelessly stranded batsman, asking him to try and make his crease.Both captains of Mumbai and RCB, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, were fined for slow over-rate offences during the game. Rohit had already been penalised for a poor over-rate during Mumbai’s match against Sunrisers, so he was fined INR 24 lakh, while his team-mates were fined the smaller amount between INR 6 lakh and 25% of match fee. Kohli was fined INR 12 lakh because if was his first offence of the season. Royal Challengers bowler Varun Aaron was reprimanded for violating the IPL’s clothing regulations.

وأضاف اللاعب: “أوجه الشكر لجميع الأندية ومن ساندوني وجماهير مصر بشكل عام، وإذا كنت أخطأت في حق أحد يسامحني وإذا لم أوفق مع أحد الأندية فبالتأكيد كنت أريد أن أحقق شيئًا ولكن هكذا كانت الظروف”.

وتابع اللاعب باكيًا: “بالتأكيد لكل مشوار نهاية ولكني كنت أتمنى ألا تأتي هذه اللحظة”.

وأردف: “لم أخطط للفترة المقبلة، اعتزلت بشكل مفاجئ لأن الفترة الماضية كنت أسير بشكل جيد، ولكني وجدت أن الحديث عن السن (موضة) فاخترت احترام نفسي”.

واستكمل موجهًا رسالته لمدربي الدوري المصري: “المدربون لا يعاملون اللاعبين وفق مجهودهم، في مصر المدربين يفكرون بشكل غريب”.

واستطرد: “يجب أن تفكر الأندية أن هناك مدربين يكونون مُتعبين جدًا مع اللاعبين، يوجد مدربون تولوا مهمة عشر أندية ولم يوفقوا، فيجب أن يحصل وجوه أخرى على فرصة”.

وأتم: “التعامل مع الأجيال الحالية مختلف عما مضى، في وقت سابق كان الناشئ يقوم بتغيير ملابسه في غرفة أخرى غير التي يتواجد بها اللاعبين الكبار، ولكن الجيل الجديد لا يملك تلك الصفات، بل يمكن أن يأتي اللاعب ويجلس مكانك في الغرفة”.

يذكر، أن أحمد علي صاحب الـ37 عامًا، قد لعب 147 مباراة في الدوري المصري، بينهم 95 أساسيًا، سجل خلالهم 85 هدفًا وصنع 3 وحصل على 20 بطاقة صفراء، وطرد وحيد.

وعلى الصعيد الدولي خاض 11 مباراة في دوري أبطال إفريقيا و7 في دوري أبطال آسيا سجل خلالهم هدفين في منافسات القارة السمراء وهدفًا في آسيا.

هذا بالإضافة إلى 3 مباريات مع منتخب مصر الأول بواقع واحدة رسمية ووديتان، سجل خلالهم هدفًا وحيدًا.

وكان أحمد علي قد خاض تجربة احتراف واحدة مع فريق الهلال السعودي عام 2011، وحقق معهم بطولة الدوري السعودي وكأس ولي العهد.

ومحليًا فقد فاز مع ناديه الأسبق الزمالك ببطولة الدوري المصري موسم 2014-2015، بجانب 3 نسخ من بطولة كأس مصر، بالإضافة إلى تحقيقه لقب هداف الدوري المصري مع فريق وادي دجلة موسم 2018-2019.
