R Ashwin’s 9 for 128 is the second-best match haul for an India bowler on debut behind Narendra Hirwani’s 16 for 136 in Madras in 1988.

Ashwin also becomes the fifth India spinner and the seventh India bowler overall to pick up a five-wicket haul on Test debut. His second-innings figures of 6 for 47 are third behind Hirwani’s twin eight-wicket hauls in 1988.

If India are to win the first Test, they have to equal the record fourth-innings chase in Delhi, by West Indies in 1987. On that occasion, West Indies chased the 276-run target with the help of Viv Richards’ unbeaten 109.

Virender Sehwag scored a half-century in both innings for the fifth time in his career. It is also the 30th time that an India batsman has made a fifty-plus score in both innings against West Indies.

There have been ten leg-before dismissals in the game so far. On eight previous occasions, there have been more leg-before dismissals in Tests in India.

Tendulkar reached the 15,000-run landmark in Tests in his 182nd match. He has now scored 15005 runs at an average of 56.19.

The first session of the day, though, looked like the continuation of an exercise in making the Kotla pitch look brutish. India had started it yesterday, losing 10 wickets for 120 runs, and on this slow track with low but manageable bounce, West Indies found a way to lose four wickets in the first hour today. It could have been three wickets in the first three overs, but Ishant Sharma was denied one by the umpire and Ashwin failed to catch a half chance.The beneficiaries, Kirk Edwards and Darren Bravo, added 27 for the fourth wicket. Edwards played positively, hitting three fours in the first four overs of spin, but for some reason he chose to leave alone a straight delivery to give Umesh Yadav his maiden Test wicket. More uncertain cricket followed. Bravo thrust his pad forward to Ashwin and was trapped by one that didn’t turn as much as expected. Ashwin then cleaned up Marlon Samuels with one of his first carrom balls in Test cricket. He uses that variation regularly in limited-overs cricket, but had hardly done it on Test debut until he got through the defence of Samuels.A familiar thorn in the side remained, though. Chanderpaul began with two fours off the first two balls he faced, using his wrists on both occasions to manipulate the off-side field. First he rolled them on the cut shot to beat the squarish third man, and then he pushed through a length ball, placing it to the left of point. Despite Carlton Baugh’s careless dismissal, Chanderpaul kept scoring unaffected.With an aggressive Sammy for company, Chanderpaul threatened serious damage. Ashwin, though, interrupted him three runs short of a fifty with an offbreak that didn’t turn as much as he expected. It was a brave lbw decision by Rod Tucker, as this was bowled from over the wicket and pitched within the stumps, but proved to be correct because of the small degree of turn. Sammy, though, continued to exploit the open field sets for him. He found the gaps for couples, hit a four with the field up, and in the most Caribbean of fashions drove Ishant for a six even with the field back. It took a straight Ashwin delivery that stayed low to get rid of Sammy, the first signs of the pitch playing unmanageable tricks. Ravi Rampaul and Devendra Bishoo didn’t throw it away, and added 23 for the last wicket.Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir came out aggressive. A potentially game-changing moment arrived in the fourth over, when Sehwag was a touch early into a straight-drive, but Rampaul couldn’t take the tough return catch to his right. India took 23 off the first four overs, but it would become challenging when pace was taken off.Sammy did so as early as the fifth over, and the openers went into singles mode. Sehwag, though, didn’t like the sight of Samuels’ offspin that early in the innings, and drove him over extra cover for six. Even though Samuels came back with Gambhir’s lbw, Sehwag continued to beat the slowness of the pitch. The fields were spread, the ball didn’t come on, but Sehwag adjusted superbly to score behind square on the off side. The quicker balls he guided past slip, for the slower ones he arched back and used the wrists to impart power. Three of his five fours he hit there.He did not hit everything behind square. He lofted Bishoo, the opposition’s only specialist spinner, for a six over long-on in his first over. Quietly Dravid slipped into positive mode, too, driving two boundaries through midwicket and extra cover before Sehwag managed to reach a score of fifty in both innings of a match for only the fifth time in his career.A typical slow-pitch dismissal followed when Sehwag chopped Sammy on. More control and interrogation was a natural expectation. Immediately West Indies bowled the first maiden of the innings. They could now have some control over where they bowled, but Tendulkar and Dravid remained resolute. Tendulkar avoided playing across the line, and made positive forward movements every time he could. Dravid scored only 17 off the last 73 balls he faced, and the partnership was worth only 57 off 25.5 overs, but the two were desperate to stay unbeaten in fading light, which they managed.Just about. For two overs before stumps, running in classical Indian style, Dravid crossed the stumps without grounding his bat or his feet. A lazy bail and inconclusive replays saved him there, after which he berated himself. The reaction would have been much more severe had he been given out.

شن جوزيب ماريا بارتوميو، الرئيس السابق لنادي برشلونة، هجومًا على الرئيس الحالي خوان لابورتا، فيما يتعلق بالفضيحة التي كُشفت عنها في الأيام القليلة الماضية.

وكانت “كادينا سير” قد فجرت مفاجأة تخص مدفوعات مالية متكررة من نادي برشلونة، في ظل تعاقدهم مع شركة “Dasnil 95 SL” المملوكة لنائب رئيس لجنة الحكام السابق خوسيه ماريا إنريكيز نيجريرا.

وفتح مكتب المدعي العام في إسبانيا تحقيقًا بشأن ذلك، بينما أكد بارتوميو في تحقيقاته بأن المبالغ المدفوعة تعود إلى فترة ما قبل 2003، في وقت رئاسة خوان لابورتا للنادي، واستمرت حتى 2018 وتم إيقافها بسبب سياسة تقليل النفقات ورحيل نيجريرا نفسه.

وقرر بارتوميو إلغاء العقد مع تلك الشركة في عام 2018، وهنا أرسل نيجريرا رسائل غاضبة عبر البروفاكس حيث هدد بالكشف عن كافة مخالفات برشلونة.

وأجرى بارتوميو حوارًا مطولًا مع شبكة “ABC” العالمية، بخصوص ذلك الأمر، حيث جاء به ما يلي، حسبما نشرته صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية:

تحليه بالهدوء تجاه الموقف: “أنا هادئ جدًا لأنني كنت من قطعت هذه الخدمة، ليست لي علاقة بالسيد إنريكيز نيجريرا ولم أقابله قط، كنا سنلتقي مرة واحدة في الاتحاد الإسباني، لكن الشيء الوحيد الذي كنا نفعله هو أن نقول مرحبًا، لم ألتق به أبدًا، باستثناء أنه بالنسبة لهذا الرجل فإن اللقاء في ممر يعني عقد اجتماع”.

تهديدات البروفاكس المذكورة: “أتذكر أنها اُرسلت لي، ولكنني لم أعيرها أي اهتمام، قمت على الفور بإحالة الأمر إلى الخدمات القانونية للنادي، ولم نسمع عن الأمر مجددًا، لا أعرف ما فعلوه لأنني تجاهلت القضية، من المؤكد أنني لم أقابل السيد نيجريرا قط”.

رد فعل نيجريرا بعد انتهاء العلاقة مع نادي برشلونة: “هذا البورفاكس كان في عام 2019، ولكن في مارس وأبريل 2018 عندما أنهينا العلاقة التي كانت تربط برشلونة مع الشركة، اتصل بي وأخبرني أننا كنا نلعب بأموال عائلته، لم يلعب النادي بأموال أي شخص، بل توقف النادي ببساطة عن الحصول على خدمات ابنه، الذي كان هو الذي قدم التقارير لأنه تقرر منذ ذلك الحين أن تقوم إدارة داخلية بالنادي بالمهمة نفسها، ولم أتحدث معه بعد ذلك الوقت، ولم يعد لدي أي أخبار أخرى حتى وصل البورفاكس”.

أسباب إلغاء الخدمة: “في عام 2018 بدأت فترة من تقليل النفقات لتنظيف اقتصاد النادي، أخبرني بيب سيجورا، المدير العام لكرة القدم في النادي خلال ذلك الوقت، وأوسكار جراو المدير العام، أن هذه الخدمة تكلفنا الكثير من المال وتقرر إلغاؤها”.

علاقته مع خافيير إنريكيز، نجل إنريكيز نيجريرا: “لم أكن أعرف من هو خافيير إنريكيز حتى يوم تم تقديمه لي في المدرجات في كامب نو، لكنني لم أكن أعرف أنه ابن نائب رئيس لجنة التحكيم، كان ذلك في عام 2015 وقد أخبروني فقط أنه هو الشخص الذي يتولى إعداد التقارير، لقد استقبلته وأخبرته أن المديرين سعداء جدًا بعمله، وهذا كل شيء”.

خدمة نيجريرا: “البعض يظن أننا كنا نستهدف من تلك الخدمة الحصول على المزيد من ركلات الجزاء لصالحنا، أو أننا أردنا أن تكون قرارات الحكام معنا، هذا لم يكن الحال، هذا الرجل لم يكن لديه أي قوة بين الحكام”.

زيادة المدفوعات إلى نيجريرا مع وصول لابورتا: “عندما وصل لابورتا إلى النادي، كانت فواتير الخدمة قريبة من 150 ألف يورو، وعندما تم تعيين ساندرو روسيل، كانت أكثر من نصف مليون يورو، الشيء الوحيد الذي يمكنني قوله هو أننا قطعت المال على نيجريرا، لقد ضاعف لابورتا راتبه أربع مرات، يجب أن أوضح ذلك لكم”.

الحكام: “لم نطلب من الحكام أي شيء، مضمون تقارير الخدمة المقدمة من الشركة؟ كانت عبارة عن وثائق مكتوبة وفيديوهات لجميع مباريات الفريق الأول والشباب، كان تحليلًا تحكيميًا، على سبيل المثال عندما كنا نذهب إلى مدريد، كان نيجريرا يقدم لنا تقارير تخص الحكم المحدد للطاقم المسؤول في النادي، وهكذا”.

الاجتماعات حال التضرر من التحكيم: “كنت سألتقي بفيلار وروبياليس لتقديم شكوى، أنا شخصيا ذهبت إلى الاتحاد ولكن لم يكن ذا فائدة لأنهم أخبروني أن الحكام كانوا هيئة مستقلة”.

The appointment, made by the sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, could be the first in a series of changes in Sri Lankan cricket, which could include the axeing of the coach Geoff Marsh and captain Tillakaratne Dilshan after the poor performance in South Africa.Don Anurasiri, Amal Silva and Hemantha Wickramaratne are the other members of the new selection committee, which has a one-year term. Although the tenure of Mendis’ panel was going to end in February, the appointment of the new panel will come into effect on January 20.Anurasiri is the only member from the old committee, but de Mel and Silva have served as selectors before. Wickramaratne, a left-hand batsman who played in three ODIs in the early nineties, is new to the role.Mahela Jayawardene is also likely to be asked to take over the captaincy from Dilshan after the South Africa tour. When asked in Kimberley, on the eve of the fourth ODI, whether he would accept the offer, Jayawardene said, “I will have to think about it. I will need some time.”The news about the selection committee came less than two hours after Aluthgamage denied a report in the , a Sri Lanka newspaper, that changes to the committee, captain and national coach would be made. “No decision has been taken so far to replace or to change the selection committee and the management of Sri Lanka Cricket or the captaincy of the Sri Lankan cricket team,” he had said in a statement.Aluthgamage, however, said it was the “responsibility of the Sri Lankan government and the Sports Ministry” to take “stern and appropriate action” to ensure Sri Lanka becomes “the number one team in the world.” Upali Dharmadasa, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket, has already been asked to submit a report to the ministry on the team’s poor performances since the 2011 World Cup.Sri Lanka struggled since the retirement of Muttiah Muralitharan in July 2010, winning just one Test over the last 18 months, though that was a historic maiden victory in South Africa. Defending champions Rajasthan were criticised for crawling during the first two days of the final in Chennai, their batsmen accused of playing slow and shoddy cricket. Their critics asked why Rajasthan were adopting an extremely safe approach on a pitch that was dead. Despite being faced with such questions, their batsmen stayed patient and determined, and amassed Rajasthan’s second-highest total in the Ranji Trophy. Their best was the 641 for 7 against Maharashtra in Nasik in the 2010-11 Plate League semi-final.Rajasthan’s plan was to run Tamil Nadu ragged and then unleash their fresh fast-bowlers on tired batsmen. It worked, as the home side’s top order made a quick exit. At 24 for 3, Tamil Nadu needed rescuing and the pair of Dinesh Karthik and K Vasudevadas remained steady to deny Rajasthan any more wickets.Having been in the field for eight sessions, Tamil Nadu were mentally fragile at the start of their innings. Rajasthan’s new-ball bowlers, who have destroyed every batting line-up in their previous four matches, were once again precise. Despite the slowness of the pitch, Pankaj Singh and Rituraj Singh did not compromise on pace and bowled fuller lengths.Rituraj made the first breakthrough when he pitched a back-of-a-length delivery on middle stump and moved it in to Abhinav Mukund, who was caught in front of the wickets. Peter Hartley remained accurate in his decision-making and adjudged the batsman lbw.At the other end Pankaj was his usual self, maintaining the same lines at varying lengths. He used his biggest advantage – his height – to extract bounce by hitting the seam. There was variable bounce and S Badrinath was once beaten by a delivery that skidded past at shin height. Badrinath soon erred while driving across the line and found himself plumb lbw to an incoming delivery.M Vijay was the victim of a smart strategy. He had played fluent drives, and a clip off a fuller delivery from Rituraj that rushed to the midwicket boundary. Hrishikesh Kanitkar plugged the gap by moving Puneet Yadav from square leg to midwicket. On the penultimate delivery of that over, Rituraj hit a full length at slower pace and Vijay played pre-emptively, spooning a catch to Puneet. Tamil Nadu were 24 for 3 in ten overs; Rajasthan had been 221 for 0 after the first day, their go-slow tactics had come good.Having watched the ease with which Rajasthan’s Robin Bist scored in the morning, the Tamil Nadu batsmen went for their shots too early in their innings. The danger of such an approach was the risk of a casual stroke, which was also the cause of Bist’s dismissal.Bist had begun with a well-timed square cut against L Balaji in the second over of the morning. Though Balaji’s wicket-to-wicket line and fuller length tested him, Bist put his wrists to good use. And when Aushik Srinivas, who began with a slip and silly point, attacked off stump, Bist played a wristy flick to the midwicket boundary.He got to his fifty by glancing the offspinner Sunny Gupta in his first over. Just as he looked set for a bigger score, Bist flicked Gupta straight to Vasudevadas at square leg. He stood there stunned at his error. Not only he had forgotten his team’s plans but also missed the chance to become only the 12th batsman to score 1000 runs in a Ranji season.Bist’s dismissal meant that Vineet Saxena, who had already batted two days, had to be extra vigilant to ensure Rajasthan did not slip further. Saxena had a difficult start to the day. In its seventh over, after facing 575 deliveries, Saxena gave his first chance, flashing with hard hands at a length delivery from J Kaushik. The outside edge flew straight at Vasudevadas’ face at gully and he dropped a straightforward catch. Kaushik, wearing a wry smile on his sweat-stained face, just stood there.Thereafter Saxena watched Bist dominate at the other end and was involved in his third century partnership of the innings. But having grafted for the first two days, Saxena was bolder in his approach today. He stepped out against Srinivas, hitting the second six of the match over long-on.Immediately after lunch, though, Saxena leaned back to make room and push at a straight delivery from Srinivas. He was beaten for pace, had his off stump uprooted, and left without showing much emotion. In minutes, Saxena’s 665-ball effort was 108 fewer than the longest innings in Ranji Trophy. Himachal Pradesh’s captain Rajeev Nayyar had compiled 271 off 728 balls in 1015 minutes against Jammu & Kashmir in 1999-2000. Saxena’s wicket was a reward for Srinivas’ perseverance.Puneet and Dishant Yagnik departed quickly as Rajasthan lost three wickets in 19 deliveries and were eventually dismissed for 621. Their batsmen had done their job, and Rituraj and Pankaj began theirs effectively as well.
