Mal estar no vestiário?

Everton fans slam Gomes vs Norwich

Many Everton fans have been left slamming the display of Andre Gomes in their 2-1 loss away at Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

It was a very poor result for the Goodison Park faithful against a team in the relegation zone, as a Michael Keane own goal and a strike from Adam Idah within the first 18 minutes of the game were enough to give the Canaries all three points, despite Richarlison’s goal on the hour mark.

Gomes himself had a particularly poor match, losing out on 10 of his duels, the most out of any player on the pitch, while he also failed to record a single shot on target, interception, key pass or accurate cross (SofaScore).

He also lost possession of the ball on no fewer than on 22 separate occasions throughout the clash, again the most out of any player on both teams, and will no doubt have to perform better if he is to stay in the side.

These supporters of the Merseyside club slammed his performance on Twitter, with one Toffee even going as far as to claim that he was a ‘ghost’:

Adam Gilchrist confident of Deccan encore

The Deccan Chargers captain believed the excellent team spirit and the new inclusions in the team would be crucial in ensuring success again

Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist is confident of reworking the magic that helped them lift the title in the second season of the IPL. He believed the team spirit and the new inclusions in the squad would be crucial in ensuring success again. “We’ve got a great bond that is a legacy of last year’s victory,” Gilchrist told the . “It’s certainly something that will be an asset for us.”The defending champions had purchased Kemar Roach, the West Indies fast bowler, for $720,000 during the auction in January and also recruited Mitchell Marsh, who led Australia Under-19 team to success in the World Cup.”We are very excited about the new players,” Gilchrist said. “I am looking forward to playing positive and entertaining cricket again. We’ve made up for the loss of [fast bowler] Fidel Edwards with the inclusion of Kemar Roach – he was very impressive during West Indies’ series in Australia. Then there is young Mitchell Marsh, an exciting talent who has captained the Australian Under-19 team to the World Cup triumph recently.”Marsh is a hard-hitting batsman and a good bowler. We’ve got some superb youngsters among the local players as well – Monish Mishra and Rahul Sharma to name a couple, have been very impressive during our practice sessions.”However, Gilchrist said it may be a while before Deccan hit top gear with the entire squad unavailable initially. “We do not have the whole squad together for the first couple of games. The Indian players are sort of on-and-off owing to commitments in domestic matches. It’s a little bit tight but we will be fine once we get into the tournament.”Gilchrist, along with fellow-Australian Matthew Hayden of the Chennai Super Kings, were among the foreign players who had confirmed their participation for the third edition early, and he dismissed security fears surrounding the tournament. “I’ve been here for six days and feel very comfortable with the security arrangements,” Gilchrist said. “Obviously, once the tournament gets underway, I’ve got no doubt the IPL will be doing all that it can to create a secure environment.”However, he was disheartened that Hyderabad will not host any matches. Hyderabad, Deccan’s home ground, will not be hosting any matches in the third season of the tournament following a decision of the league to shift all matches scheduled to be held in Andhra Pradesh. The move was perceived as a response to the sporadic violence that has hit the region due to a separatist movement in the state. According to the revised schedule, Deccan would be playing their home games across three venues in Mumbai, Nagpur and Cuttack.”It is extremely disappointing that we won’t be playing in front of the home crowd, that’s frustrating. I do feel for the Hyderabadi people,” he said. “But I don’t see that as a negative about how we will go about our cricket. We will try and focus on the grounds where we are going to play.”Deccan begin their campaign with the IPL opener against Kolkata Kinight Riders at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on March 12.

Hosts Jamaica recovered from their defeat to Ireland on Saturday to overpower Canada by 63 runs to extend the winless streak for the North Americans in the Jamaica Cricket Festival. The Jamaicans were propped up by their top-order batsmen Brenton Parchment, Danza Hyatt, Donovan Pagon and John Ross Campbell, who all chipped in with significant scores to lay the foundation for a strong score.Parchment went after Rizwan Cheema, smashing 17 runs off the sixth over to push the Jamaicans to 51 without loss at that point.Hyatt, who topscored with 48, struck ten off the next over, from Hiral Patel, and there was no let-up for the tourists. Cheema eventually got Hyatt, after an explosive 33-ball 48, and Parchment departed soon after.Campbell and Pagon then took up the mantle towards the middle of the innings, posting 52 runs for the third wicket.Andre Russell and Carlton Baugh pushed up the scoring during the closing stages to finish with an imposing 175 for 4. Parth Desai bowled well to finish with 3 for 21.Canada’s reply was wrecked by Krishmar Santokie’s spell of 3 for 7 in three overs. Bevon Brown and Tamar Lambert picked two wickets each, to push Canada out of the game, and it was left to captain Ashish Bagai to strike an unbeaten 51, and taken them into three figures.Jamaica’s coach Junior Bennett was happy with the team’s improved performance and expressed satisfaction with the contribution of the young players in the squad such as Campbell and Kemar Marshall. “We are pleased with our performance throughout the festival. We are happy with the performances of the youngsters that we introduced this year and we were much better with the bat today,” said Bennett.”The openers gave us a good start and the batsmen did well to put them on the back foot and put away the poor deliveries.”Canada’s coach Pubudu Dassanayake was disappointed with the performance of his team. “We didn’t do too well at all when they made 175 it was pretty much unreachable for us but it’s good to see Ashish (Bagai) still getting some runs. That’s the only positive about this. We are now hoping to have a better time at Sabina Park,” he said.

Tim Spiers makes Wolves transfer claim

Wolves are not planning on signing a new centre-back in the January transfer window, according to reliable journalist Tim Spiers.

The Lowdown: Wolves continue superb form

Bruno Lage’s side continued their excellent recent form on Saturday afternoon, winning 2-1 away to Brentford in the Premier League thanks to goals from Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves. It means Wolves have picked up 13 points from their last five league games, as talk of European football next season gathers pace.

Despite Wanderers’ current brilliance, there is still arguably a need for new faces this month, with the centre of defence an area slightly short on options should any of Max Kilman, Conor Coady or Romain Saiss get injured.

The Latest: Spiers makes centre-back claim

However, Spiers took to Twitter to share an article he penned for The Athletic in which he discussed Bruno Lage’s claim that Wolves are unlikely to add to their central defensive options this month, despite the latter previously feeling that this was one of his priorities in the January transfer window.

The journalist tweeted that the Old Gold manager “suggested there are now no plans to bring in a centre-back”.

The Verdict: A risk from Wanderers?

There is certainly an element of risk in taking this approach, especially if the funds are available after Adama Traore’s likely move to Tottenham goes through.

Kilman, Coady and Saiss have been superb in a back-three this season – Wolves have conceded just 16 goals in 21 league matches – but a long-term injury to any of them would leave Wanderers looking light.

There is still a week or so for Wolves to make January additions, but if they choose not to do so, the hope is that a lack of mid-season transfer activity doesn’t end up being fatal in their European push.

Phil Hay relays Bamford injury update

After falling to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United in their latest Premier League outing at Elland Road, it seems as though Leeds United and their fans will now be sweating on the fitness of one of their key players even after the current break in the season comes to a close.

What’s the latest?

Following on from the Newcastle defeat, Leeds journalist Phil Hay relayed comments from Bielsa on his official Twitter page revealing that striker Patrick Bamford may not be fit enough to return to action after the break when the Yorkshire club take on Aston Villa in their next Premier League match.

Bielsa’s words were: “A player who’s gone so long without playing it opens up a question mark about how long he needs to be able to maintain regularity.”

Bamford started Leeds’ first five Premier League games of the season where he managed to score one goal and provide two assists before staking his claim to be named as the unluckiest player in the league as a result of the constant fitness and injury issues he’s picked up since.

An ankle injury kept him out of action until he made a return in Leeds’ 2-2 draw against Brentford where he not only managed to score a late equaliser, but he then managed to injure his hamstring in the celebrations.

Fans will be fuming

Now that a potential return to action next month in time for Leeds’ match against Villa is looking uncertain, this will only add more frustration to Bamford, Bielsa and the Leeds supporters, who could really do with seeing the striker back in the team to help them pick up some positive results and move away from the relegation zone.

Having scored 17 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season, Bamford not only showed how much of a danger he can be in front of goal but also how reliable he was for the team by appearing in all of their league games, highlighting how much of a different sort of campaign this one has unfortunately been for him.

As a result, to have the forward continuously not available, especially during the height of Leeds’ current injury crisis, will leave plenty of supporters rather upset and angry.

While it wouldn’t be wise to rush the Englishman back into action as the first chance of doing so, Leeds will need him in the team towards the end of the season if they want any chance of ending it on a high note.

Afridi writes to PCB; requests reconsideration of fine

Shahid Afridi has written to the PCB chairman asking him to reconsider the fine imposed on him by a committee for ball-tampering during the fifth ODI against Australia in February this year

Shahid Afridi has written to the PCB chairman asking him to reconsider the fine imposed on him by a committee for ball-tampering during the fifth ODI against Australia in February this year. Though local reports suggested that the fine will be withdrawn, the board says it has asked Afridi to formally appeal against the charge.Afridi was fined Rs. 3 million ($35,000) and put on probation for a six-month period after the committee, set up after a disastrous tour of Australia, found him guilty of bringing the game and country into disrepute. Afridi was caught on TV biting the ball in a bid to tamper with it. He was leading Pakistan in the match and was immediately banned for two games, by the ICC.He was temporarily removed as Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain following the incident but was announced recently by the board as the man to lead Pakistan’s defense in the World Twenty20, due to begin in the Caribbean on April 30th. Afridi’s personal plea to the chairman is based on the grounds that he has already been punished once for the incident, and a fine would be the second punishment for the same offence. “Afridi has written a letter to us and we will consider it in due course,” Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, told Cricinfo. “His punishment has not been withdrawn yet and all these reports are baseless.”The letter does not, however, constitute a formal appeal and Afridi is likely to be told he should follow the process set up by the board to the punished players. Seven players were punished in all by the committee with fines and bans – the Akmal brothers, Shoaib Malik, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan and Afridi – though the specific nature of charges was never released. The board has set up a three-member appeals panel consisting of retired judges from the Supreme and High Courts and given the players 30 days to file appeals. As of today, no player has filed an official appeal. Afridi has sent a letter to the chairman, as has Younis Khan who has been banned indefinitely from playing from Pakistan. The board has sent Younis a reply asking him to initiate a formal appeal to the panel. Rana, banned for a year from playing for Pakistan for unspecified offences, has today also sent in a legal notice through his lawyer to the PCB in which some legal objections have been raised about his punishment, but this is not a formal appeal.Malik, also banned for a year, said he intends to appeal but he’s currently playing in a Twenty20 tournament in Sharjah – he could lodge an appeal upon his return – and is possibly distracted by the announcement of his wedding to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza.Yousuf, meanwhile, has announced his retirement from international cricket as a result of his indefinite ban though he also said recently he might consider appealing should he be advised to do so.
