أشاد مهاجم تشيلسي الأسبق، توني كاسكارينو، بأداء جناح الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي مانشستر سيتي ومنتخب إنجلترا، رحيم سترلينج، بعد تألقه في مباراة بيرنلي الأخيرة في الدوري الإنجليزي.

ونجح رحيم سترلينج في مباراة مانشستر سيتي وبيرنلي على ملعب “تيرف مور” في صناعة هدفي فريقه للفوز بالنقاط الثلاث والعودة إلى قمة ترتيب الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وقال كاسكارينو عن رأيه في سترلينج خلال حواره مع شبكة “talkSPORT” البريطانية: “رحيم كان مخيفًا في المباراة، هذا ما اعتدنا عليه منذ بطولة كأس أمم أوروبا الأخيرة، لقد كان رائعًا”.

وتابع: “هذا الموسم، اعتقدت أنه عندما وقع مانشستر سيتي مع جاك جريليش، سيكون رحيم سترلينج لاعبًا بديلًا لا يشارك كثيرًا، لكنه أثبت عكس ذلك فهو يلعب أساسيًا سواء على اليمين أو اليسار نظرًا لأهميته فهو يتغلب على أي مدافع”.

وأضاف: “لقد كان مميزًا مع منتخب إنجلترا في التوقف الدولي السابق، اعتقد أنه يقدم أفضل أداء في مسيرته الكروية، أفضل مما كان عليه في ليفربول ومانشستر سيتي في السنوات الماضية”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “محمد صلاح كان رائعًا في بداية الموسم، لكنه لم يؤد بشكل جيد في كأس أمم إفريقيا وما بعدها، يعاني من بعض الأوقات الصعبة حاليًا، ولم يقدم مستوى جيدا في آخر شهر أو شهرين”.

Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that he cannot see Marcelo Bielsa leaving Elland Road because of player sales.

This comes after ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor suggested that the Argentine could walk if Raphinha is sold this summer.

Raphinha was one of Leeds’ top performers during the 2020/21 season after joining from Rennes, racking up nine assists in his debut Premier League campaign.

The Brazilian attacker is now being linked with a move to Liverpool, but Palmer is not expecting any big exits at Elland Road – including Bielsa.

“I don’t see it happening,” the ex-Leeds star exclusively told FFC. “I’ve heard the Leeds chairman come out and talk about the relationship he’s got with Bielsa and that’s vice versa.

“If they want to keep Bielsa, they’ve got to keep progressing. I don’t think Leeds are in a position that they need to sell players.”

Raphinha still has three years left to run on his contract having only joined Leeds in the last summer transfer window, so he is certainly one player who the club do not need to sell.

Elsewhere, Patrick Bamford is said to be another name who Liverpool have looked at, so it could be an interesting next couple of months for the Yorkshire outfit.

Reliable reporter Alan Nixon believes Celtic could make a move for Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist this summer.

The Lowdown: Hoops’ previous interest

Celtic have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old in the last 12 months.

The player’s agent revealed prior to the January window that the Hoops scouted Siegrist on several occasions, but as we know, a winter window move never materialised.

The Verdict: Why a move may not gather pace

Siegrist, who former Dundee United manager Micky Mellon described as the ‘best in the league’, kept 12 clean sheets in 32 games last season.

However, despite his impressive campaign, a move to Celtic may not go through due to Ange Postecoglou’s Parkhead arrival.

The new Hoops boss is keen on a deal for Brighton’s Mat Ryan, with the club now preparing a long-term contract and the promise of the number one shirt.

Should Ryan reunite with Postecoglou, that would leave Celtic with four first-team goalkeepers, so you’d expect Siegrist would move elsewhere.

But there was no mistaking Steve Waugh’s pleasure after he guided New South Wales to an important seven wicket victory over Tasmania in an ING Cup match here at Devonport today.In truth, Waugh played a minimalist’s role amid an outstanding team effort, leaving his most telling contribution to be delivered in the form of a late batting cameo that guided the Blues past their victory target of 250 with ten deliveries to spare.Yet his involvement in helping the Blues move to within one point of Queensland and South Australia at the head of a congested table with only one round remaining in this season’s domestic one-day competition still made for a more than satisfactory day.”It was a very good win for us,” said Waugh after the game.”The batting, in particular, was consistent all the way through. It was a very good chase.”A score of 250 always represents a big chase. If you lose early wickets (pursuing a target of that size), you’re always pressure.
