Sunderland have confirmed that Will Grigg will return to the Stadium of Light this summer.

What’s the latest?

That’s according to a statement posted on the club website, in which Lee Johnson revealed the names of the players that will be retained by the club ahead of their 2021/22 League One campaign, of which Will Grigg is one.

Fans will be livid

While it would have been an unlikely scenario that the Black Cats would have released the 29-year-old centre-forward a year prior to the expiry of his contract, the fact that Grigg looks set to make a return to the club this summer is something that is nonetheless likely to leave Sunderland fans livid.

With the Black Cats having spent a whopping £3.06m on the Northern Ireland international back in January of 2019, it would be a fair statement to make that the striker has not quite lived up to his pricetag during his spell on Wearside.

Over his total number of 47 League One appearances for Sunderland, Grigg has found the back of the net just five times, in addition to registering a mere three assists – with the £6k-per-week forward having not been on the scoresheet in a league fixture for the club since October of 2019.

However, rather ironically, after being loaned out to Milton Keynes Dons in February this year, the forward went on to score eight goals and provide three assists over just 20 League One appearances for Russell Martin’s side.

Although, considering just how poor the 29-year-old has been while wearing the red and white of Sunderland, this upturn in form while away from the club is unlikely to have convinced the Mackems that Grigg could lead the line for Lee Johnson’s side next season – and will surely be hoping that the 39-year-old can manage to move the man who Jack Ross claimed is “desperate to be a success” onto pastures new this summer.

ويستعد يوفنتوس لتقديم عرض مالي إلى محمد صلاح، للانتقال إلى صفوفه بمقابل راتب سنوي قيمته 10 ملايين جنيه إسترليني بحسب صحيفة “لاجازيتا ديلو سبورت” الإيطالية.

Daniel Levy needs to get his next managerial appointment at Tottenham Hotspur spot on if he’s to have even the smallest chance of keeping Harry Kane at the club.

A bombshell over the 27-year-old’s future in North London was dropped last month, with Sky Sports reporting that he had reaffirmed his desire to leave his boyhood club in pursuit of silverware.

Premier League rivals Manchester United, champions Manchester City and Champions League winners Chelsea have all expressed interest in the England international since this revelation, so the Spurs chairman has a tough task on his hands this summer.

It’s understood that Levy convinced Kane to stay for Jose Mourinho’s first full season in charge of the club, where they had hoped that the Portuguese manager would bring them the success that the talisman and those around Tottenham had been desperately craving.

By no means is Kane’s stance certainly going to change following the arrival of a top-class manager but Levy could certainly bolster his claims – especially as there will not be many teams able to afford his whopping £150m asking price – by finding the right man.

This week, a fresh candidate has emerged that could spell trouble for said chances.

According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Spurs have been offered former AS Roma boss Paulo Fonseca after he was replaced by Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico last month.

It’s thought that the 48-year-old is seen as a cheaper alternative to Antonio Conte, who has left Inter Milan despite securing their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Given that Fonseca has been linked to other vacancies, notably Crystal Palace and Celtic, you could forgive supporters and ultimately, Kane, if they felt hugely underwhelmed.

The Portuguese has enjoyed successful spells in his home country, where he transformed the fortunes of Pacos de Ferreira and won a trophy with Sporting Braga, as well as Ukraine, where his three-time title-winning Shakhtar Donetsk side drew glowing praise from Pep Guardiola but he struggled to make much of an impact in Italy.

At Roma, Fonseca never achieved better than a fifth-place finish, which is only good enough to secure a Europa League berth whilst they have struggled on the European stage massively.

A win rate of 52% – the same as Mourinho at Spurs – is respectable in a fairly competitive league but there is nothing to suggest that Spurs would suddenly rise up to contend for trophies again under his stewardship and ultimately, that’s the sort of statement they need to make with their next appointment if they want to change Kane’s mind.

Fonseca’s reign in the Italian capital was perhaps marred by his side’s capitulation against Manchester United in the Europa League semi-final, where they lost 6-2 to a side that looked way off it tactically in the final.

Despite this embarrassing defeat, Portuguese journalist Alex Goncalves has tipped him for big things. He tweeted:

“It’s a bad result for Paulo Fonseca today, a 6-2 defeat to Manchester United. His managerial CV is exceptional, & his managerial ability matches it, but his time at Roma may be coming to an end. A talented manager who plays stylish football likely to be available this summer.”

But when names such as Conte and even a sensational return for Mauricio Pochettino are mooted, then it’s hard to envisage many fans being happy with the appointment of the 48-year-old.

If Levy opts for Fonseca, then he could well push Kane one step closer to the exit door.

وكان آرسين فينجر، رئيس قطاع التطوير في فيفا، قد اقترح فكرة إقامة المونديال كل عامين بدلًا من أربع سنوات.

وأصر فينجر على موقفه رغم اعتراض العديد من رموز كرة القدم على تلك الفكرة، خاصة بالنظر إلى تأثيرها الضار على اللاعبين في ظل تكدس المباريات.

ورغم أن فينجر ورئيس فيفا، جياني إنفانتينو، كانا متفائلين بشأن تنفيذ الفكرة إلا أن الأمر يبدو أنه تغير.

وحسب صحيفة “ذا صن” الإنجليزية، ينوي فيفا سحب الخطة الخاصة باستضافة كأس العالم كل عامين، المحكوم عليها بالفشل.

وأوضحت أن إنفانتينو تقبل الهزيمة في مساعيه، هو وفينجر حيث أن فكرة المونديال كل عامين لا يمكن تنفيذها.

وكان إنفانتينو يعتزم استخدام الكونجرس يوم الخميس الذي يضم 211 اتحادًا عضوًا لطرح المسألة وإجراء تصويت حاسم.

لكن رد الفعل العالمي، بقيادة كرة القدم الأوروبية، أجبر إنفانتينو على التراجع بشكل محرج.

وهذا يعني أنه لن يكون هناك حتى مناقشة لهذه الفكرة في اجتماع يوم الخميس في الدوحة.

وحتى الخيارات الاحتياطية، مثل الدوري الوطني العالمي أو النسخة الموسعة من كأس القارات، أصبحت الآن مستبعدة أيضًا.

O zagueiro também comentou sobre a expectativa de voltar aos gramados. A previsão inicial de retorno é de mais seis meses. Apesar do tempo, ele revelou que consegue lidar bem com a ansiedade. O mais difícil agora é controlar as emoções.

– Tem sido tudo muito demorado, com algumas dores ainda, tive algumas fraturas. Não é mais o Neto de antes do acidente. Tenho que ter paciência. Eu fico muito em casa. That’s according to a report by TEAMtalk, who claim that Steve Cooper’s side, along with a host of other Championship and Premier League clubs, are interested in taking the Liverpool right-back on a season-long loan deal in the upcoming transfer window.

It is reported that, at present, Jurgen Klopp is unsure whether or not he would be willing to part with the 20-year-old ahead of next season, however, if he eventually does sanction the temporary departure of the £7.2m-rated man, it seems like he will not be short of suitors.

Cooper must move

Having been thrown into an injury-ravaged Liverpool side at times last season, Williams turned in a number of impressive performances for the Reds in particularly challenging circumstances.

Over his six appearances in the Premier League, the defender made an average of one interception, one tackle and 0.5 key passes per game, with these returns seeing Williams earn an overall seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.66.

The £7.9k-per-week man also impressed over his four fixtures in the Champions League, providing one assist and creating two big chances, as well as making an average of 1.5 interceptions, 1.8 tackles and 0.5 key passes per game, seeing him average a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.13.

As such, it would very much appear as if Williams could be an excellent addition to Cooper’s Swansea side ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign, in which the 41-year-old will undoubtedly be aiming to go one step further than the Swans’ play-off final appearance this season by securing promotion to the Premier League.

However, with a whole host of clubs interested in the Welsh international, whom Ryan Giggs once dubbed an “outstanding” talent, Cooper should move sooner rather than later for the right-back, or else he risks missing out on the signing to one of the Swans’ Championship rivals.
