After winning the Champions League at the end of last season, Liverpool really do seem proud of their players.

So proud, it seems, that the Reds are banking on those same players to do it all again next season after a quiet summer window – actually, they’re relying on less players after allowing Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno to leave.

Only Adrian – signed as Simon Mignolet’s replacement – as well as teenage duo Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg have been brought to the club, so no new faces who will directly influence the starting XI, it seems.

So, Jurgen Klopp will need some of his existing players to step up – let’s take a look at who they could be…

Xherdan Shaqiri

After an initial bright start, the Switzerland international barely featured after the turn of the year.

Shaqiri made just 11 appearances in 2019, with only four of them coming as starts. The former Stoke man has a bundle of talent in his locker, but needs to become less of a peripheral figure at Anfield and begin making more significant contributions on the pitch.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

We are by no means saying that the England international needs to step up based on his form last season, as the bulk of last term was plagued by injury and his consequential recovery from a serious knee issue.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain does need to step up in the sense that he must rediscover the form from his debut campaign at Liverpool that made him such a key player in Klopp’s system.

Yasser Larouci 

A name that some of you may not have heard until this summer is Yasser Larouci, but you may be hearing a lot more about him soon.

The teenager impressed for the Reds in his five pre-season games this summer, and drew praise from Klopp for his performances.

Whilst other impressive youngsters at the club may not get a first-team chance this season, Larouci could be one to watch due to the shortage of left-backs currently at Liverpool – Andy Robertson is the only senior option in this position.

The Scot is remarkably healthy and rarely misses games, but Larouci must step up so he can be on standby if something happens.

وتحدث ألابا عن الأمر في مؤتمر صحفي منذ قليل أمام الصحفيين الألمانيين، وقال: “لقد اتخذت شخصيًا قرارًا بتجربة شيء جديد بعد هذا الموسم وترك بايرن ميونخ”.

وأضاف: “لم يكن قرارًا سهلًا، أنا هنا منذ 13 عامًا ولطالما كان بايرن ميونخ نادٍ مهم جدًا بالنسبة لي، لكنه قراري منذ فترة وأبلغت المسئولين بذلك رغم محاولات الجميع للإبقاء علي لسنوات أخرى “.

وتابع: “لم أقرر بعد هوية النادي الذي سأرحل إليه، هناك العديد من العوامل التي يجب دراستها، سأفكر كثيرًا قبل اتخاذا القرار، وأين يمكنني الاستمرار في كرة القدم خلال السنوات المقبلة والنجاح، سيؤثر ذلك بشكل كبير على قراري”.

الجدير بالذكر أن ألابا أحد المطلوبين في ريال مدريد بعد نهاية الموسم، وشبكة “سكاي سبورتس” تتحدث عن اتفاق شفهي بين الطرفين ولكن لم يتم توقيع العقد حتى الآن.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed the pressure of being the world’s most expensive defender will be the main problem facing Harry Maguire at Old Trafford.

What did he say?

After a long and protracted saga, United pulled off the biggest deal of the summer in the Premier League when they signed Maguire for a reported £80m.

Having seen the England international’s move surpass Virgil van Dijk’s £75m transfer to Liverpool, Ferdinand believes Maguire faces a tough test in trying to prove his worth.

He said: “When you walk in there, you know everyone is saying – from the players in the team, to the dinner ladies – what’s £80m getting you? They’re looking you up and down, sizing you up, your first touch on the training pitch, your first pass. The way he manages that will determine how he does, definitely how he starts.

“The moment you start sitting there and think people are doubting you, that’s when you have problems. When they’re thinking: ‘£80m? That isn’t worth £80m’… then you’re having problems.”

Pressure from teammates

Make no mistake about it, van Dijk has truly transformed the way big-money deals for defenders get completed. The Dutchman has played a major role in Liverpool’s success since his arrival and there have been no questions about whether he is worth the price tag.

As Ferdinand suggests, whilst the rest of the world will be looking on with keen interest, Maguire’s own teammates will be casting their eye over him too. For a team that conceded the most goals out of the Premier League’s top-six last season, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that the Red Devils are looking at Maguire to solve most, perhaps even all, of their defensive problems.

Can the former Leicester star handle the pressure of being United’s main man in defence? Can he help inspire his fellow teammates like van Dijk has done at Anfield? As the season goes on, the Red Devils will get more of an inkling about whether the £80m was money well spent.

وقال زيدان خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الخاص بمباراة بلد الوليد في الدوري الإسباني غدا: “مبابي؟ أنا أشاهد كل المباريات، وأستمتع عندما أرى أشياء جيدة مثل كل المُشجعين”.

وردًا على “مبابي وهالاند هما خليفة ميسي وكريستيانو، تتفق مع ذلك؟”، أجاب: “إنهما جيدان جدًا، مثل ميسي وكريستيانو ونيمار، لا يزالان صغيرين في السن وهما الحاضر والمُستقبل في كرة القدم”.

وبسؤاله عن إمكانية التعاقد مع أي منهما: “هُنا في ريال مدريد، نحن نعمل دائمًا جنبًا إلى جنب، هناك الكثير من المعلومات والعديد من الأشياء وهذا لن يتغير؛ لقد سئمت من التكرار نفس الشي، لدينا مباراة غدًا، وأنتم تتحدثون عن أشياء أخرى”.

وردًا على “من تفضل مبابي أم هالاند؟”، قال: “حسنًا، كما أقول دائمًا، ما أحبه هو رؤية لاعبين جيدين وهم لاعبان من للحاضر والمستقبل، لكنني لن أجيب على من أفضل”.

وبسؤاله “أنت مثل أعلى لـ مبابي هل هذا يحفزك؟!”، أجاب: “كما هو الحال دائمًا، لقد تحدثت عن الأمر مرات عديدة بالفعل”.

وعندما سُئل عن رأيه في مبابي وإذا كان يريد رؤيته في ريال مدريد بعد تألقه في كامب نو: “لن أخوض في ذلك، ما فعله مبابي ليس مفاجئًا بالنسبة لي، لأنني أعرفه، لقد رأيته كمشجع ولتوضيح الأمر أهم شيء هو ما يتعين علينا القيام به التركيز على مباراة الغد”.

واختتم تصريحاته ردًا على “هل أرست رسالة لـ فلورنتينو بيريز للتعاقد مع مبابي؟”، قائلًا: “لا، لم أرسل شيئَا، لكن من حق الجماهير إبداء رأيهم بالطبع”.

Steve Bruce has explained the confusion surrounding Jetro Willems’ introduction against Arsenal, but his latest excuse is littered with inaccuracies and completely contradicts his earlier comments.

What’s he said?

Willems made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend, coming on for Jonjo Shelvey with the score at 0-0.

The Magpies’ shape was all over the place with the Dutchman in the middle, and he was quickly moved to his natural left-back role, where he made a costly mistake in the build-up to the Gunners’ lone goal.

Steve Bruce had originally said: “It was just a lack of communication with him. I wanted to put Matt Ritchie inside, and play him in his position. He only played there for two minutes, really, until we got the information down about where we wanted him to play.”

However, the manager has now said: “I put Jetro on in midfield where he played for Frankfurt. Then I thought it was unfair (on his debut), and I switched him quickly.

“We made a mistake.”

Are you sure about that Steve?

So, which one is it then? Was it simply a miscommunication that saw Willems replace Shelvey and throw the entire team out of sync, or was it a tactical mistake that was quickly rectified?

Either way, the confusion surrounding the 25 year-old’s first minutes on the hallowed St. James’ Park turf allowed the Gunners to take the lead, and the manager is to blame.

Even worse, his latest reasoning doesn’t even hold true, as he claims he simply wanted to put Willems where he played for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Last season, the Holland international started just three Bundesliga games in central or defensive midfield, according to Whoscored (position filter found under “detailed”), earning an average match rating of 6.5 in those games.

Former ESPN Newcastle correspondent Marc Duffy claims that number is even lower, tweeting that the Dutchman only started two league games at centre-mid, one of which he was subbed off after just 35 minutes with his side down 6-1.

Not only has Bruce completely contradicted his previous comments, the Magpies boss doesn’t appear to know a whole lot about his new signing, which is very worrying indeed.

وبحسب صحيفة “ElDesmarque” الإسبانية، فإن البرازيلي، فينيسيوس جونيور، جناح نادي ريال مدريد أشعل غضب الدولي الكرواتي، لوكا مودريتش، متوسط ميدان النادي الملكي.

وقالت الصحيفة أنّ التدريب الأخير للنادي الملكي، قبل مواجهة أتالانتا، تدخل البرازيلي بقوة على الكرواتي، ما تسبب لـ مودريتش بإصابة في الكاحل.

وأوضحت الصحيفة أنّ فينيسيوس قام بمد يده لـ مودريتش، من أجل مُصافحته والاعتذار له، ولكن لوكا رفض اعتذاره وبدا غاضًا من الجناح البرازيلي.

Sturridge posted three pictures of him training for the first time with his new team, captioning the above photo: “First session with the boys.”

It’s not a great feeling knowing that injuries have halted Sturridge’s progression to the point where he had to move away from the Premier League to a far inferior level of competition.

The striker had every chance of becoming a key man for Liverpool and England for years, and after his 2013/14 campaign, when he scored 21 league goals, it looked as if he would be that man.

Unfortunately, he’s not been able to stay fit, and if you’re a Liverpool fan or even just a football fan then it’s certainly somewhat sad to see such a talented player withering away his final years in the game at UEFA’s 137th-ranked club.

The whole Alexis Sanchez mess is a bit tedious, isn’t it?

If I were a high-profile signing who had amassed five goals and nine assists in 45 appearances before being shipped on for no other reason than being a foul stench in the dressing room, I wouldn’t emerge publicly for at least five years.

It seems Sanchez didn’t get that memo though, and despite his best attempts to play the victim in a recent BBC Sport interview, we’re not entirely sure it’s gone down particularly well with the crowds of pitchfork-wielding Manchester United fans rounding on his multi-million-pound properties (proverbially speaking, of course).

With that being said, and having been exiled to Italy to represent Inter Milan for the foreseeable future while United find a suitable place to dump his wreckage, the 30-year-old had a few words for his former employers. Needless to say, United supporters didn’t bite…

وأتم: “مباراة اليوم كان هناك تركيز واضح من الفريق، وأتمنى أن نكمل بهذا المستوى في كل المباريات”.

Arsenal will have no doubt have been disappointed by failing to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Instead of finishing in the top four, they just missed out to end up in fifth place and as such, they will be competing in the Europa League once again this term.

The draw for the group stage took place last week, and the Gunners were placed with last season’s semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt, as well as Standard Liege and Vitoria Guimaraes.

Mmanager Unai Emery has now decided his squad for the competition, and some unfamiliar names have been included amongst the usual suspects.

One of those is 17-year-old Joel Lopez, who signed for the north Londoners from Barcelona in July of last year. Clearly one for the future, he may get a taste of European football this term.
