Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is following Zaha’s lead

As revealed by Danish outlet BT in an exclusive interview with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the Southampton star has decided to hire super-agent Pini Zahavi.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the former Bayern Munich man has opted to part ways with his previous agent, Søren Lerby.

His reasons for doing so remain unclear, although the timing of the news is particularly intriguing.

The Denmark international’s contract at St Mary’s expires in June, and he is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Tottenham are believed to be eyeing him up ahead of the summer transfer window according to Sky Sports, while Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are also sniffing around his services as revealed by the same source.

Hojbjerg is Southampton’s captain, and has made 25 Premier League starts for the Saints this season.

Following in Wilfried Zaha’s footsteps

One man who presumably isn’t very popular at St Mary’s is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

The Ivorian has been involved in beef with James Ward-Prowse on more than one occasion, poking the midfielder in the eye when Southampton beat the Eagles 2-0 at Selhurst Park recently, while the Saints academy graduate also got the forward sent off at St Mary’s last term.

However, Hojbjerg is following his lead by hiring Zahavi as his agent, which is exactly what Zaha did.

Premier League Inflation: You won’t believe how much these famous transfers would cost today…

What piece of significant information do we already know about the Crystal Palace star? Well, it was heavily documented that the former Manchester United man wanted to leave Selhurst Park back in the summer, handing in a failed transfer request before appointing Zahavi, who The Guardian state is trying to help the attacker secure a move away.

Now, we are by no means saying that Hojbjerg has also hired Zahavi for similar reasons.

However, it is interesting to see the Dane swap agents given his contract situation and the interest in his services.

Celtic fans react to Jock Stein anniversary

Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to react on the 55th anniversary of Jock Stein’s appointment as manager.

The legendary figure was the first manager of a British side to win the European Cup, achieving the feat with Celtic in 1967 – he also guided the Hoops to nine successive Scottish League championships between 1966 and 1974.

In total, Stein held the reins at Celtic Park from 1965 to 1978, spending a huge 13 years in charge of the Scottish giants and becoming arguably the best manager in the club’s history.

The Celtic icon also spent six years as a player for the Bhoys, commanding the backline as a dominant centre-half.

Sadly, Stein suffered a heart attack at the end of a crucial World Cup qualification game against Wales, in which Scotland secured a 1-1 draw to set up a playoff tie against Australia – a Davie Cooper penalty nine minutes from time earned Scotland their passage through, but the pressure and the intensity of the fixture was eventually fatal for Stein, who had existing health problems.

His memory still lives on to this day as a result of his monumental achievements in Scottish football, as you can tell by the Celtic fans’ reaction to this landmark day on Twitter…

To kick off the reaction, these three supporters gave glowing reviews of the legendary boss, with one saying that Stein gave Celtic bragging rights over other clubs for life.

Another went as far as saying that his appointment at Celtic Park was one of the greatest thing to happen to football.

Elsewhere, another fan described his legacy as immortal – seeing as there is a statue of the great man outside of Celtic Park, that much is very true.

Another said that his appointment was the greatest signing in Celtic’s history – given what he achieved for the Hoops, it feels unfathomable that anyone else will ever come close to his accomplishments in the game.

Aston Villa: Fans blast Pepe Reina for error against Leicester City

A lot of Aston Villa fans are annoyed with January signing Pepe Reina after his error led to Leicester City’s first goal in their 4-0 victory last night.

Five minutes before half-time, Mark Albrighton aimed a long ball at Harvey Barnes, which Reina thought he could run out and claim, but the young English midfielder tapped it past Reina and scored.

At such a crucial point in the game where the tie was a stalemate and with Villa currently sitting in 19th, errors like the one last night can just not be happening. The Spanish goalkeeper is perhaps best known for his time at Liverpool, where he made 394 appearances and kept 177 clean sheets during his eight seasons at the club (Transfermarkt) but his experience counted for nothing there as he was caught out.

Villa’s next few games are very difficult, with the side play Wolves, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United across the rest of March and April, and if their goalkeeper is making errors like that, there will surely be no way that the club can survive the drop.

Here are what some fans have been saying about the goalkeeper, after @villareport shared the footage from Sky Sports, leading one fan to label it as ’embarrassing’:

The image showing when West Ham’s capitulation began

Things had been going swimmingly in the Premier League for West Ham United until they met AFC Bournemouth.

Following an opening day battering against Manchester City, the Hammers had gone on an unbeaten run in five league games, with a 2-0 victory against Manchester United being the most recent of those results.

However, their season turned around in a gut-wrenching moment for West Ham fans, in which they instantly knew things were going to get significantly more difficult.

That was when Lukasz Fabianski pulled up after kicking the ball, which left the Poland international with a hip injury that kept him out for 11 league games – things haven’t been the same since.

West Ham got just one point from their next six games, with the calamitous Roberto filling the sticks – having just conceded four times against Oxford United in the Carabao Cup before coming on at the Vitality Stadium.

The team looked devoid of confidence when the Spaniard was in goal, and that feeling of belief doesn’t seem to have returned for long periods at any point, whether that be under Manuel Pellegrini or David Moyes.

Even with the number 1 back between the sticks, things haven’t improved significantly, as they are currently sitting above the relegation zone on goal difference.

There have been plenty of singular moments that will have had onlookers scratching their heads, but this is the incident in which West Ham’s complete and continued capitulation in the 2019/20 season started.

Spurs fans react to footage of target Kristoffer Ajer

Tottenham Hotspur fans are devoid of football right now, and it has resulted in them drooling over highlights on one of their possible summer transfer targets.

The north London outfit have been linked with a €30m (£27.5m) move for Celtic colossus Kristoffer Ajer, according to reports emerging from his native land, Norway.

And clips from his time north of the border was relayed to Twitter earlier this week.

Accompanying the video was a glowing endorsement in light of potentially signing him, and many were of the same opinion while some were against the idea of signing the Bhoys central defender.

Here’s what they have been saying…

One supporter hinted it would be a steal at £26m as it’s a ridiculously low price and has a “level head” while others said he is far too shaky.

The 21-year-old has played a massive 49 times this campaign where he has scored four goals and provided two assists as well as 20 clean sheets, per Transfermarkt.

Spurs may well need a new centre-back this summer with Jan Vertonghen likely to leave and continuous doubts over the future of Juan Foyth. so it has led to further fans comparing his suitability to the current squad.

“Unreal with [Davinson] Sanchez” was one shout, suggesting that he’d love to see the 6 foot 6 powerhouse next to the Colombian while some believe he’s just another Foyth.

Others would rather see Ruben Dias at the club, the Benfica centre-back.

Aston Villa: Fans not happy over graphic of Jack Grealish in rivals colours on twitter

A lot of Aston Villa fans are not pleased to see a graphic on Twitter which shows fan favourite and club captain Jack Grealish in Birmingham colours.

The image also shows Jude Bellingham in the colours of Villa, prompting the Blues fan who found and shared the image to the site to say, “Just been sick in my mouth.”

With football postponed due to recent events, it seems like fans are trying to find ways to be entertained, and putting players in the colours of their rivals is a new trend which has not gone down well.

Both Grealish and Bellingham have had good seasons, and the two attackers have seen themselves linked with moves to Manchester United, per the Manchester Evening News and Sky Sports. Indeed, Grealish has had a great season, contributing to 38% of Villa’s goals in the Premier League this season with seven goals and six assists in 28 games, per SofaScore.

The two rivals despise each other but it seems like this image has managed to unite both fanbases as they both do not like the concept.

Liverpool’s Timo Werner update a blessing in disguise

Linked with a switch to Liverpool for what feels like eternity, it appears Timo Werner may not be joining up at Anfield this summer after all.

Reports in recent months have suggested that the Germany international could be lured away from RB Leipzig, but it now appears that the current uncertainty surrounding football has had an impact on this potential transfer.

According to The Daily Mail, Jurgen Klopp’s side have put all contract talks and recruitment plans on hold due to this ongoing situation, and that because of this, “Liverpool are not actively working on any deals to bolster and refresh their squad – and will only resume once there is clarity.”.

For fans of the Merseyside club eager to see to their team strengthen their side, this will no doubt been as a disappointment. But it could be a major blessing in disguise for those already at Anfield.

Whilst not making new signings can be seen as standing still, or even taking a step backwards, in Liverpool’s case, the sheer dominance that they have enjoyed this season in the Premier League means it is hard pressed to see where they could genuinely improve.

If anything, a big-money, high-profile move for a forward like Werner would only serve to hinder the kind of momentum and chemistry that they have built up under Klopp. The Reds are the league’s second-top goal-scorers with 66, only behind Manchester City who have scored just a couple more.

They possess the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to form a much-vaunted front trio, and bringing the £72m-rated Werner on board just raises unnecessary issues about who to leave out and whether a change in system is needed.

It’s the kind of headache Klopp could do without, and so this almost enforced restriction on their transfer plans may actually turn out for the best for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to this update on ace.

Rangers fans slam Tony Fitzpatrick’s calls for SPFL season to end

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to some comments from Tony Fitzpatrick, as the St Mirren CEO said the last words any Ibrox supporter wants to hear.

A report from The Daily Record on Thursday evening revealed that an SPFL summit could soon crown Celtic as champions. According to Keith Jackson, ‘null and void’ is simply not on the table and league chiefs will hold conference calls next week to discuss whether the season should be ended, in which case results would stand.

And Fitzpatrick, a legend at St Mirren and now the Saints CEO, believes the campaign should end so that the focus can shift to improving the future Scottish football.

Hilariously obscure Premier League players – Can you name them all?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Via The Glasgow Times, he said: “This season is done. People don’t like it, but it’s done, so why not make the decision?

“There’s been 30 games played, so I’m not in favour of making the season null and void, that would be criminal. But I think this is maybe an opportunity to try out something different.

“I’d like to see a 16-team Premiership, but even if it was just Dundee United and Inverness who came up, we do away with relegation and give Celtic the title, that would work for me.”

Of course, this solution would conveniently absolve St Mirren of any relegation threat, as the Simple Digital Arena outfit are currently in the bottom six, just two wins clear of last place in the division.

And while Rangers are 13 points behind in the title race, they do have a game in hand and two Old Firms left to play, so it is certainly not ridiculous to suggest the league is not finished.

Take a look at some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where the Light Blues were less than impressed by Fitzpatrick’s verdict…

Whelan says Spurs will be tempted by Barcelona offer

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton has said that a potential deal involving Tanguy Ndombele and two Barcelona defenders will be tempting for Spurs, in an interview with Football Insider.

What does he say?

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona have offered defenders Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo in exchange for Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

Ndombele joined the North London club this summer from Lyon but has been publicly criticised by manager Jose Mourinho and this looks to have triggered speculation that he could be sold.

Asked whether this deal was a good one for Spurs, Hutton said the offer on the table would be tempting.

He told Football Insider: “It’s massively tempting. We’re talking about two positions that Tottenham will be desperate to fill if we’re being honest, right-back and centre-half.

“It’s well documented the Ndombele’s trouble he’s been having with Mourinho. I do believe he’s a class player, he’s definitely got the quality to make it. It’s how the manager, how Levy sees it – does the value of the players add up for what they paid for Ndombele?

“What about wages? These two players are going to be on high wages, are they going to be on more than Ndombele? There’s a lot of ifs and buts but from the outside looking in, it would be a good trade if you were to trade them.

“It is a place Ndombele could go, fit in, he’s used to that continental football and he’s not had the best of times with Mourinho so maybe his head’s a wee bit turned.”

Fascinating proposal

If the rumours are to be believed this is a huge move from Barcelona that could represent a big switch in the way transfers are conducted.

Umtiti and Semedo are both good players, while it is clear that the Ndombele move has not really worked out, so if the deal on the table makes financial sense you can see Spurs being interested.

Injury concerns over Umtiti do exist, but with Jan Vertonghen likely to on his way out, the Frenchman would be an ideal replacement.
