West Ham fans react to Andriy Yarmolenko transfer speculation

According to Fotospor, West Ham United attacker Andriy Yarmolenko, via his agents, has been offered to Turkish giants Besiktas.

The 30-year-old joined West Ham from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2018 and has managed five goals and two assists in 25 appearances for the Hammers.

Granted, the attacker’s record is not exactly fantastic, but he has scored three Premier League goals during the current campaign, which is far from disastrous.

And a number of the London club’s fans cannot understand why their club would be prepared to lose the Ukraine international during the January transfer window.

Not everyone is of the same opinion, though, and there are some West Ham fans who would seemingly be open to the idea of the attacker leaving during the current window.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

Yarmolenko is actually currently on the sidelines with an abductor problem and has missed his team’s last four Premier League matches.

Indeed, not since the clash with Southampton on December 14 has the Ukrainian turned out for his English club, whilst he was also left out of the home game against Arsenal on December 9.

It will be very interesting to see whether he is in the plans of new manager David Moyes, who has picked up one victory and one defeat from his two Premier League games in his second spell as head coach at the London Stadium.

Meanwhile, a number of West Ham fans were left shocked by a recent quote from their new boss, who replaced Manuel Pellegrini at the helm.

Liverpool’s interest in Ousmane Dembele could be scuppered by Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez could be set to miss the rest of the season for Barcelona.

What’s the story?

The Uruguay international started for Barca in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atletico Madrid, which saw them lose 3-2. He completed the full 90 minutes.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

However, it has now been confirmed that he will miss four months of football following knee surgery. An announcement on Barcelona’s official website said: “The first team player, Luis Suarez, has been operated on this Sunday by Dr. Ramon Cugat, who used keyhole surgery to resolve an injury to the external meniscus of the right knee by performing a suture. The Uruguayan striker will be out for approximately four months.”

Blessing in disguise for Liverpool

This could very well be good news for Liverpool. The Reds have been linked with Ousmane Dembele during this transfer window, with reports suggesting that due to Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the winger, the La Liga outfit may have been willing to let him go €100m (£85.7m).

Now, though, he is surely unlikely to depart because of Suarez’s lengthy spell on the sidelines. Barcelona have spent much of this season using a 4-3-3 formation, therefore using three forwards in each attacking match. The absence of the former Liverpool man could see Antoine Griezmann move to a striker’s role, meaning that Ansu Fati and Dembele are the only options available on the left flank.

As such, Ernesto Valverde cannot afford to let one of his few remaining options leave. Whilst that may appear to be a blow to Liverpool, it is actually a blessing in disguise. This now means that they will miss out on a player who could very well be a disruptive influence on his team – he is said to have been consistently late to training whilst also struggling with a video game addiction.

Klopp has put together a side that has a strong team mentality at its core, and that is unlikely to be something that the 52-year-old will want to disrupt. The France international may have talent – in his final season with Borussia Dortmund, he had eight goals and 21 assists in all competitions – but that may just not be enough at Anfield. Inadvertently, Suarez may just have done his former club a favour.

In other news, this Liverpool target would be an upgrade in Georginio Wijnaldum…

What Spurs target Max Aarons could bring to the club

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with right-backs.

On the chalkboard

Football London reported on Tuesday that Max Aarons and Nathan Ferguson are both being considered as potential signings, with Serge Aurier wanted by AC Milan.

But what exactly would Aarons bring to north London?

Well, the Norwich City man has been almost ever-present for Daniel Farke’s side this season, missing just two Premier League games, against Manchester City and Burnley.

And, per WhoScored prior to this weekend’s game against Bournemouth, he appears to be the flying full-back that Spurs could well do with, particularly if Aurier departs.

He averages 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 2.2 clearances and 0.9 blocks per game, while he is dribbled past on just 0.5 occasions.

Offensively, he averages an impressive 0.8 key passes per game from defence, along with 0.6 shots and 1.4 dribbles, while also being fouled 1.4 times.

His pass success rate of 79% could use a little bit of work but one expects some leeway there, given that Aarons regularly passes the ball on the move, while he flies down the flank.

Still just 20, he has picked up five yellow cards this season but he remains an impressive prospect and a potential star in the making.

Spurs’ ideal signing

Spurs love to bring in players with a high ceiling and help them reach it.

They did exactly that with Dele Alli and this could be a very similar story.

Aarons, at the moment, is playing in a team that are mired in a relegation battle yet his numbers stand out and point to a player who is ready to make the jump up the table.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

He is unlikely to come cheap due to his age and his homegrown status but he could be worth every penny.

Indeed, Aarons offers both longevity and genuine talent and could well make the right-back spot in north London his own for the next decade or more.

Spurs should make a move to bring him in as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans have reacted to a potentially massive swap deal.

One winner and one loser if Crystal Palace sign Yannick Carrasco on loan

According to Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are in talks over a possible January loan deal for none other than Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco, as Roy Hodgson is on a lookout for reinforcements due to their mounting injury list.

But if the former Atletico Madrid star really were to join, there would definitely be a clear winner and clear loser amongst the Palace ranks…

Did he really play for us?! No Palace fan has managed to name all of these obscure Eagles signings….

Winner: Wilfried Zaha

Zaha has been one of Crystal Palace’s biggest stars in recent times. Back in 2018/19, the now 27-year-old forward has managed to tally ten goals and ten assists throughout the campaign but his record has somewhat taken a dip in the ongoing season. As of right now, the winger has only scored three goals and assisted a further four in 25 games across all competitions.

With Carrasco potentially joining the team, albeit just on loan, there could finally be someone on the other side of that pitch providing Palace with a similar output and quality, lessening the burden on Zaha’s shoulders along the way. With 24 goals and 17 assists for the Chinese team, the 26-year-old Belgium international still has a keen eye for rattling the inside of the net and helping his teammates score as well.

By adding the 41-cap man to the squad, Zaha would get more space and the support he needs to thrive in Hodgson’s system even more.

Loser: Jordan Ayew

Even though we’re talking about Crystal Palace’s top goalscorer in the 2019/20 Premier League season with six to his name, Ayew could be the one to suffer the most from Carrasco’s potential arrival. With Cenk Tosun’s loan spell, the centre-forward position has become much more under threat for the 28-year-old Ghana international but as a result, he has also been deployed out wide from time to time.

As per Transfermarkt, he was predominantly used as a centre-forward, playing there in a total of 19 games, but has also been used as a right-winger and a left midfielder as well. But interestingly enough, with Carrasco’s arrival, even the wide areas would be more contested and Ayew could find himself pushed out of the entire starting XI.

At the moment, that seems rather strange when talking about one of their best players this term, but with so much competition across the pitch, it’s more than just a possibility.

One winner and one loser if Newcastle sign Paco Alcacer from Borussia Dortmund

According to The Sun, Newcastle United would like to land Borussia Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer on loan before the January transfer deadline, with a view to making the move permanent for a £25m fee in the summer.

But whenever fresh blood comes into a club, there are always positive and negative consequences for their new team-mates. With that in mind, we look at one clear winner and one clear loser should Alcacer end up on Tyneside…

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Newcastle signings…

Winner: Joelinton

With only one goal and two assists to his name in the Premier League this season, it’s safe to say Joelinton hasn’t been enjoying his football as of late. Steve Bruce usually deploys him as a lone striker up front in a 5-4-1 formation, often leaving the Brazilian incredibly isolated up to.

But with Alcacer’s possible arrival, the goalscoring burden would be taken off Joelinton’s weary shoulders and he can instead focus on link-up play. He’s been known to play out wide and even a bit deeper, either as an attacking midfielder or a second striker according to the games Transfermarkt have in their database, so Bruce could well use both players on the pitch at the same time.

The Dortmund man would then be able to help Joelinton out by either giving him more space or directly combining with him. In theory, this deal could help the current Newcastle hitman rediscover his form by simply relieving the pressure.

Loser: Yoshinori Muto

Muto is already struggling for game time and a possible addition of a new attacking player could be the final nail in his Newcastle coffin.

The Japanese international has only registered 344 minutes across all competitions for the Magpies this season, scoring once in the Cup along the way, and the club’s interest in a new centre-forward suggests Bruce doesn’t fancy the 27-year-old.

With his contract about to enter its final 24 months, a summer departure will seem all the more likely if Alcacer is brought in before the deadline.

Spurs ace Bergwijn offers solution for manager Jose Mourinho

Steven Bergwijn joining Tottenham Hotspur offers up a number of options for manager Jose Mourinho.

The forward was signed from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window, paying a reported £27m to bring him in from the Dutch club.

The Netherlands international, of course, enjoyed an exceptional debut, scoring a brilliant volley in the 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Chairman Daniel Levy, of course, could not bring in a striker during the winter window, despite sources telling Football FanCast that the club were interested in signing Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud, Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose and Krzysztof Piatek, who eventually left AC Milan to join Hertha Berlin.

Bergwijn, then, could well be the solution.

He arrived after making 16 appearances for PSV in the Eredivisie, scoring five goals and also registering 10 assists.

Per WhoScored, he averaged 2.3 shots per game, 2.8 key passes, and 2.5 dribbles, along with a passing accuracy of 87.7%.

His pacey running and brilliantly twitchy dribbling – he routinely sends defenders one way while sprinting away in the other direction – are, of course, at home on the wing, as he can front up defenders and take them on.

However, the 5 foot 10 man is also capable of playing up front.

Bergwijn has featured as a centre-forward 22 times throughout his career, scoring seven goals and also registering five assists.

Not only can he play up front, but he can also form part of a front line with genuinely fluid positioning.

Of course, Spurs also have Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura in their ranks and unleashing the trio on opposition defenders could bamboozle them.

No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?

The three are all capable of playing on the right, the left and through the middle and swapping positions throughout could mimic the tactics utilised by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Indeed, one would have to claim that the Reds do not have an out-and-out striker, either, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino routinely swapping positions at Anfield.

Mourinho can utilise that system, too, now that he has Bergwijn at his disposal.

Meanwhile, Spurs were snubbed by a superstar on deadline day!

Everton missed out on the signing of Lille centre-back Gabriel in January

According to Le10 Sport, Everton missed out on the signing of Lille centre-back Gabriel after failing to meet his valuation.

What’s the word?

The Toffees didn’t bring anyone in on a permanent deal in January, with Carlo Ancelotti’s first transfer window as Everton manager going by with little action.

However, French publication Le10 Sport claim both Everton and Premier League rivals Arsenal made offers for Gabriel, but that they did not meet the valuation placed on the 22-year-old.

The report further claims that despite Lille getting Gabriel to sign a new deal with the club, the French side may let him go in the summer if an acceptable offer comes in, and that the two Premier League teams are set to monitor his progress over the rest of this campaign.

No better than Yerry Mina

January may well have been the perfect time for Everton to steal a march on their rivals and snap up Gabriel. If the Brazilian continues to impress at the heart of defence for Lille, then naturally, the number of sides who are interested in securing his services will increase.

However, when looking at what Gabriel has actually produced for the French side this season, then it becomes clear that perhaps Everton dodged a bullet. As per Sofascore, the Brazilian has averaged 1.4 tackles and one interception per game, whilst Yerry Mina has performed better in both of those important defensive categories – he has averaged 1.5 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game.

How much do you really know about the Farhad Moshiri era? Answer 25 simple questions below…

Ultimately, any new signing should always be about trying to get an upgrade on what you already have, and Gabriel’s numbers clearly don’t show that to be the case. So whilst the Toffees may have initially regretted missing out on his signature in January, the 6 foot 3 ace simply would have been a waste of money. Mina has better numbers, and has done it in the Premier League too.

Meanwhile, Everton should be thanking this ace rather than Yerry Mina for the comeback win over Watford.

Everton unlikely to reignite Wilfried Zaha interest this summer

According to The Times, Everton appear unlikely to reignite their interest in signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha during the summer transfer window.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Ivory Coast international was heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park last summer, with one report suggesting that the player thought he would be an Everton player before the deadline back in August.

However, The Times says that the maximum price the Toffees would have gone to for the 27-year-old would have been £60m – they actually only bid £52m for him – with the Eagles valuing the attacker at £80m.

The report says that while the Merseyside outfit could look to sign a right winger this summer if their finances allow, they are likely to find better value elsewhere – especially if the former Manchester United man is still valued at £80m.

Are Everton right to turn their back on him?

In a word, yes.

Zaha may be the sort of player that can make the difference in the final third in certain matches because of his dribbling ability – he has successfully completed 4.7 per top flight outing on average as per WhoScored – but he simply doesn’t do it enough in terms of goals and assists to have the valuation on his head he reportedly does.

Watch Everton Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

According to Transfermarkt, he has three goals and five assists in 26 Premier League outings this term, which is way down on the 10 goals and 10 assists in 34 games he ended the 2018/19 campaign with.

Former Everton manager Sam Allardyce once suggested the winger could emulate Eden Hazard during his time in charge of Crystal Palace, but he is a million miles away from doing that right now.

Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players….

Zaha may have got the assist for Christian Benteke’s equalising goal at Goodison Park on Saturday, but otherwise he was largely on the periphery of the action on the day.

Everton are right to avoid this potential deal.

In other Everton news, the club is reportedly target a move for a European starlet Jurgen Klopp once described as a “wonderful player”…

Wolves fans fume at Brendan Rodgers’ VAR admission

Wolves fans were forced to confront a familiar demon on Friday evening as VAR once again intervened to deprive them of an opening goal.

Pedro Neto was adjudged to be standing in a fractionally offside position by VAR and Willy Boly’s goal was chalked off.

The game eventually finished 0-0 on another incredibly frustrating and enthusiasm-sapping evening for the Wanderers faithful.

In the aftermath of proceedings, VAR was naturally the main talking point dominating the media coverage, and Brendan Rodgers was asked for his thoughts on the situation after his Leicester City side were the beneficiaries of technology’s intervention.

It’s impossible to say for sure whether Rodgers is merely being pragmatic or genuinely believes that VAR positively adds to the drama of the occasion, but what can be said with complete certainty is that plenty of Wolves fans disagree with his assessment.

And they made their feelings clear on Twitter as they unleashed a tirade of criticism in his direction.

One fan suggested that the Leicester boss’ comments rather sum up the modern game, while another expressed huge frustration at his refusal to publicly criticise a system which is undermining the essence of what makes the sport so captivating.

It is certainly true that there is a distinct lack of footballing figures who are vocalising their disapproval of VAR and its potential to suck the life out of the game, with managers choosing to simply react on a game by game basis and change their tune according to whether they find themselves on the right or wrong end of a decision.

Nuno is certainly an exception to that rule, but Rodgers seems to have epitomised everything that is wrong with the modern game…

In other news, Man United fans have all been talking about one Wolves star after Friday night’s performance…

Tottenham Hotspur: Charlie Eccelshare says Spurs’ top players would find it hard to leave the club

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccelshare talked about Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Chelsea and touched upon the possibility of their top players leaving the club in the near future.

Spurs are currently not in the best of places despite having Jose Mourinho at the helm for a while now. While they have returned to the top six under his watch, they trail RB Leipzig in their Champions League last 16 tie and have lost to rivals Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to qualify for the competition next season.

Indeed, whether or not they play in the Champions League in 2020/12 is currently uncertain but, in response to a fan’s enquiry about the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli leaving the club if they miss out on Champions Leauge football, Eccelshare said on the View from the Lane podcast (25/2/2020): “There are also long contracts and leaving is always extremely hard but, for those guys, leaving would be very hard.”

It seems that the journalist is pretty sure that neither of the aforementioned players are going to leave the club any time soon, regardless of whether or not they can secure top European football for next season. After all, Kane still has four years to run on his deal and has previously spoken about how happy he is at the club, while Alli has four years on his own contract. With that in mind, prising either of those away from the club looks a daunting prospect for other clubs, especially with Daniel Levy involved.

Spurs fans, do you think that the likes of Kane and Alli are going to stick around even without Champions League football? Would you want them both to stay? Let us know in the comments below!
