Revealed: 58% of Arsenal fans want Lacazette to start against Fulham

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal boast an impressive run in all competitions having won their last eight matches under Unai Emery, bouncing back from a slow start to the campaign.

The Gunners tackle Fulham on Sunday and look to extend their winning streak in the London derby, where their Spanish boss has a selection headache surrounding his striking options.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck have all been in fine form this season and there is arguments for each of the trio to lead the line against Fulham – but there can be only one choice in Arsenal’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Therefore, we asked fans who they would like to see start in the central striking position for Arsenal at Craven Cottage and the results were fairly conclusive.

58% of supporters want France international Lacazette to continue in the role he has played in recent weeks, while 35% want Aubameyang to be moved to a more central position after playing on the flanks recently.

Rounding off the results were just 7% of fans who want England international Welbeck to be handed a chance.

Arsenal eye swoop for Manchester United outcast Eric Bailly

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal are looking to bolster their defence with a move for Manchester United outcast Eric Bailly, according to The Daily Star.

What’s the word?

Unai Emery’s rebuild at Arsenal involved numerous defensive players during the summer after signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner, along with goalkeeper Bernd Leno and midfielder Lucas Torreira.

After a slow start, the Gunners have bounced back to enjoy nine consecutive victories across all competitions heading into the international break but Emery is still eyeing defensive improvements, as The Daily Star states a move is being targeted for Manchester United’s Eric Bailly.

The Ivory Coast international has become disillusioned at Old Trafford after becoming an outcast under Jose Mourinho, starting just five games this season and being hauled off at half-time in the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend.

A good addition?

While Arsenal’s attack seems to have found their rhythm, questions continue to be asked defensively as the Gunners have kept just two clean sheets across eight Premier League matches this season, showing there is still room for improvement.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”305269″ player=”12034″ title=”Are Emery’s Arsenal Silently Gunning For The Title”]

Sokratis has proven to be a valuable addition but Shkodran Mustafi continues to attract vast criticisms, while the Gunners’ depth at the back has been depleted by Laurent Koscielny’s long-term injury absence and, on top of that, a long-term replacement for the France international is yet to be recruited.

Bailly could become that figure for Arsenal but his signature would raise queries regarding the futures of Calum Chambers, on loan with Fulham, along with Rob Holding and Konstantinos Mavropanos. Persuading United to sell to a direct rival would also be a very tough task.

Fans assess performance of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey for Wales

[ad_pod ]Arsenal have found their rhythm under Unai Emery, winning nine consecutive matches across all competitions, but there is still uncertainty to be solved. The future of Aaron Ramsey has grabbed a lot of headlines so far this season with the likelihood that the Wales international will leave the Emirates Stadium after a decade in North London as his contract is due to expire next summer.Emery could approve a sale in January but fans hoping for Ramsey to shine during the international break in order to raise his price-tag will be left disappointed, as he attracted plenty of criticism for his display against Spain on Thursday.Wales were swept aside by Luis Enrique’s side, losing 4-1 in Cardiff, and fans gave their assessment of the 27-year-old on social media, with many identifying problems in his game and some suggesting he does not perform for his nation like he does at club level, although others did see positives. We have gathered some of the best reactions below.

Revealed: 80% of Celtic fans want Divock Origi in January

[ad_pod ]

Since arriving on Merseyside in 2014, Divock Origi’s Liverpool career has not gone to plan. The Belgium international showed flashes of his talent in his early days at Anfield but could never make himself a consistent first team starter for the Reds.

A couple of loan spells away from the club followed as the 23-year-old sought out opportunities for regular football. The football came, but the goals didn’t flow with enough regularity. Now, under Jurgen Klopp, the forward has been completely frozen out.

A change would be the best thing for Origi in January, and plenty of clubs ought to be interested in taking a punt on the out-of-favour striker. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, who signed Origi when he was in charge at Liverpool and under whom the Belgian produced his best football for the Premier League side, would be wise to seek a reunion with his former charge.

If Rodgers could attract Origi to the Scottish champions on loan in the winter transfer window then it would be a timely boost for the Bhoys, and would also give the attacker a chance to rediscover his best form.

When we asked Celtic fans if they thought Origi would be a wise acquisition, 80% voted in favour of it. See the full results below.

Sheffield United would have very own Aleksandar Mitrovic if they sign Andy Carroll

Sheffield United returned to the top of the Championship table with a 4-2 win against Wigan Athletic at Bramall Lane on Saturday, and they should consider strengthening their promotion bid with a shock January move for West Ham United striker Andy Carroll.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Blades were in and around the promotion picture last term but eventually slipped away and finished six points outside of the play-off positions.

However, Chris Wilder’s men are in good form again during the current campaign and went two points clear at the summit from Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Norwich City with their latest victory against the Latics.

Striker Billy Sharp scored a hat-trick in the win, and even though the Yorkshire outfit are flying right now they don’t have the biggest squad and they may well look to add some quality and experience in the New Year to ensure they don’t fall away again this time around.

Why should they sign Carroll?

Sharp’s place in the starting XI looked to be in severe threat during the summer when Wilder brought the likes of Ben Woodburn, David McGoldrick and Conor Washington to Bramall Lane, but instead he has thrived upon the extra competition for places and his treble against Wigan took his tally to 10 goals in 13 Championship games this season.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”310054″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Fake Madrid & Ross Barkley Emulates… David Ngog”]

Elsewhere, with Leon Clarke, McGoldrick and Washington having just six league goals between them, Wilder may well be thinking about bringing in another striker who could complement Sharp up top, and Carroll would surely be an attractive option.

The West Ham centre-forward is closing in on a first-team return following injury, but with Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order and with Manuel Pellegrini being linked with January moves for Olivier Giroud and Edin Dzeko, a loan exit could well be on the cards if he stays fit and wants to play.

Like Aleksandar Mitrovic did last season, the 29-year-old could drop down temporarily to get back on the goal trail, before hopefully returning to the Premier League – with or without Sheffield United – next term.

Stewart Donald’s latest comments show that promotion is on this season

After suffering back to back relegations, Sunderland went through a summer of huge change and as a result, look like they’ve finally turned the corner under the new ownership of Stewart Donald.

Donald appointed former St Mirren boss, Jack Ross over the summer and so far this season, it looks as though it was an astute appointment as Sunderland have shown that they are genuine promotion contenders this season and sit third in the table.

Over the summer, Sunderland strengthened heavily and so far it looks as though the new recruits have made a huge impact on the side. The likes of Luke O’Nien and Dylan McGeouch have been brilliant this season but if Sunderland are to gain promotion next summer, they need to strengthen in January.

In what will come as great news to Sunderland fans, Donald has opened the door to making some signings in January.

The Breakdown

Amid a summer where Sunderland signed a host of new players, there was also a summer exodus which saw Didier Ndong and Papy Djilobodji both sacked from the club.

While Sunderland will look to add more players in January, the club still have some high earners on their books such as Lee Cattermole, Bryan Oviedo and Aiden McGeady. Having those three may reduce the club’s ability to sign players next month but the fact that Donald is already open and willing to bring more recruits in January is a great sign for the club.

If Sunderland can strengthen in certain areas, promotion could well be on the cards for the Black Cats.

Thoughts Sunderland fans?

Moussa Sissoko was Tottenham’s unsung hero in narrow Crystal Palace win

Tottenham supporters have been in high spirits in recent times after seeing their team record a ninth Premier League victory of the season on Saturday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their encounter with London rivals Crystal Palace having narrowly beaten Wolves in their previous league game, alongside victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in midweek. And Spurs made it three wins in a week as a Juan Foyth effort midway through the second half was enough to seal a 1-0 success for the North London outfit, a result which kept them in fourth place in the Premier League table.

Thus, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been praising the exploits of defender Foyth, who bounced back from a tough night against Wolves with a much-improved display at Selhurst Park.

And in netting the winner, a lot of the focus has been on the Argentine, thus somewhat taking away from the stellar performance produced by Moussa Sissoko against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles.

The France international has been something of a divisive figure during his time at Tottenham, what with the midfielder too irregularly producing the goods to suggest that he simply cannot be relied upon by manager Pochettino.

However, the 29-year-old was very impressive in victory over West Ham in the Premier League a few weeks ago, and he produced another sterling display against Palace on Saturday to help Spurs to another narrow league win.

Sissoko had more touches of the ball than any other Tottenham midfielder on Saturday (83) to underline his involvement in the contest and willingness to get on the ball, while his excellent pass success rate of 91% was only bettered by defender Toby Alderweireld (96%) to suggest that he was efficient and effective with the ball at his feet.

And with two of those passes proving to be key passes in seeking to get Tottenham up the field and creating opportunities, the Frenchman certainly sought to affect things in the final third of the pitch, even if those key passes ultimately didn’t lead to a Spurs goal.

But it wasn’t just going forward and on the ball in which Sissoko excelled at Selhurst Park, as the 29-year-old succeeded with both of the tackles he attempted to thwart Palace’s advances through the midfield area, while his two clearances suggest that he was in the right place at the right time to relieve the pressure on the Tottenham backline.

Overall, Sissoko hasn’t enjoyed the best of times since his move to Spurs back in the summer of 2016, but much-improved displays in recent weeks suggests that he is getting to grips to life in North London – Saturday was another example of that.

So while Foyth will receive the plaudits for netting the winner on Saturday, £16.2 million-rated Sissoko (as per Transfermarkt) was Tottenham’s unsung hero in victory at Palace.

Medhi Benatia could help Arsenal’s young defenders learn a lot

Arsenal have sealed their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League following a goalless draw against Sporting Lisbon.

The Gunners were unable to break the deadlock at the Emirates, but a strong defensive performance ensured passage into the knockout stages. Jeremy Mathieu received his marching orders with three minutes on the clock leaving Arsenal with little time to take advantage. A potentially serious injury to Danny Welbeck overshadowed the result with the England international travelling to the hospital with an ankle problem.

The draw extended their unbeaten run under Unai Emery, and the Gunners can win the group with victory in their next fixture. The game was only the second under the Spaniard’s tutelage that Arsenal have failed to find the back of the net. To improve their impressive record so far, Emery should launch a bid for Juventus defender – Medhi Benatia.

Valued at £20.7m by Transfermarkt, the Moroccan international is widely expected to leave the club after struggling to hold down a place in the Juve first-team. Despite emerging as a key player for the Old Lady after joining from Bayern Munich, Benatia’s role has been significantly reduced by Massimiliano Allegri. Reports in Italy suggest the defender will be available in January for just £13m.

Despite being 31-years-old, Arsenal should definitely consider bringing the former Roma man to the Emirates. Benatia remains one of the world’s best defenders and has a wealth of experience to bring to the north London. His vast knowledge could help youngsters like Rob Holding develop into an even better player.

His physical approach to defending means he will have no issues adapting to life in the Premier League. Landing Benatia’s signature in January could prove to be a masterstroke.

Arsenal fans, thoughts?

Harris interest shows Leeds at addressing the right areas

According to The Sun, Leeds are tracking Cardiff winger Kadeem Harris, whose contract with The Bluebirds expires at the end of the season.

Should the winger fail to sign a new deal, the club may want to part ways with him in January, and that will be the perfect opportunity for Leeds to swoop.

Although the 25-year-old has not featured extensively under Neil Warnock this season, his playing time has increased recently, and so has Cardiff’s results.

While it is rumoured that Leeds are planning a quiet January, this is an area that they can ill-afford to look over, as it may cost their season.

Leeds’ winger Pablo Hernández has been hugely impressive this season for The Whites, but his absence was noticed when injured. Surely Bielsa will want extra cover for the 33-year-old, particularly for the denouement of the season.

On the other hand, his teammate on the other flank Ezgjan Alioski has been less convincing this season. Harris, who is now adapting to the Premier League, would be a serious improvement to the Macedonian winger, and would make The Peacock’s attack truly lethal in the Championship with Kemar Roofe leading the line.

Leeds will not want their pressure at the top of the table to slip as the season progresses, and with such a small squad, they will want some reinforcements in January. Furthermore, with the intense style of football that Bielsa demands from his players on the pitch and training paddock, extra players in the squad will only help. This will allow the manager to rotate his players, and a few more high-quality players to chose from will only make the Argentinian’s job easier.

West Ham fans discuss Hernandez loan reports

[ad_pod ]

According to Fanatik, Besiktas will make a loan offer for West Ham United forward Javier Hernandez at the start of 2019.

Hernandez has only scored once in eight Premier League appearances for the Hammers this season, and has been handed just two starts in the top flight.

Overall, the 30-year-old’s record at West Ham is 10 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions, which is not bad at all when considering all of the circumstances.

It has just not happened for Mexico’s all-time leading scorer, however, and the speculation surrounding his future continues.

According to Fanatik, Besiktas want to sign the 30-year-old on loan in January with the view to a permanent deal at the end of the season, and the Turkish club’s president Fikret Orman is heading to London for talks.

The Playmaker FC squad decided to wind-up some unsuspecting Brazil fans at the Emirates on Saturday night. Watch the hilarious results in the video below…

The West Ham fans have been on social media discussing the interest, and it would be fair to say that they have differing views on what should happen.
