Tottenham Hotspur fans react to Man United’s reported interest in Eric Dier

With Tottenham boasting one of the most dynamic squads in Europe right now, there’s really little surprise to see some of their best players linked with moves away. Still, what’s more surprising, is the fact it’s hard to see exactly why anyone would want to leave right now.Under Mauricio Pochettino’s stewardship, the north London outfit have fast become one of the most exciting sides in the Premier League, with the performance of some of their best players not to have gone unnoticed.https://video.footballfancast.com/video-2015/alli-gerrard.mp4However, much as rumours and reports are expected in the buildup to the summer, a story from the Daily Telegraph has come slightly out of left field. They claim those on Hotspur Way are keen on signing Burnley and England defender Michael Keane, a deal that could reportedly pave the way for Eric Dier to leave for Manchester United.Jose Mourinho is said to be desperate to sign the former Sporting Lisbon man, though the news has been taken with a pinch of salt online. With that in mind, here’s how Twitter reacted.

HYS: Should Arsenal pay Ozil £300k per week?

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is demanding a staggering £300k per week contract, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

With his current terms due to expire in summer 2018, Ozil’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been a recurring subject of discussion throughout the season, especially when coupled with his many underwhelming performances.

The debate of whether Ozil or Arsene Wenger are truly to blame rumbles on, but there’s no question the German World Cup winner’s struggled to produce to the levels expected throughout 2016/17.

Which makes his demands for £300k per week all the more intriguing; many would argue the 84-cap international is yet to justify such a large wage – or for that matter, the club-record transfer fee that brought him to north London from Real Madrid.

Nonetheless, Ozil’s talent remains indisputable and if there are significant changes at the club this summer, Arsenal could well end up getting the best out of him next season. But it’s claimed Arsenal will look to sell in the coming transfer window if they can’t reach an agreement with the attacking midfielder.

So, Gunners fans, how should the club handle the 28-year-old’s situation? Should they buckle to his wage demands, accept they have to sell or let Ozil’s current contract wind down? Let us know by voting below…

Concern for Leeds United as Jansson admits he has struggled to cope

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has admitted that he has struggled to cope with the amount of games in the Championship, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

What’s the word?

Jansson’s future has been a talking point throughout the season due to his impressive performances at the back.

The 26-year-old joined the Whites from Torino on a season-long loan in the summer before agreeing a permanent three-year contract, which will be activated at the end of the season.

Despite this, rumours have been rumbling, with Swedish publication Expressen recently reporting that Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool are all interested in the player.

While there has been no direct indication from Jansson that he wants to leave in the summer, his latest comments will be a concern for both Leeds and the clubs tracking him.

The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes the defender as saying.

“It’s been a long season. I can’t talk for the other guys but for me, playing 35 games is tough.”

What could this mean for his future?

When Jansson made these remarks, he was asked in a press conference to explain how Leeds have managed to claim just four points from six games after flying high in the playoff positions.

The fact that he has admitted to struggling with the packed figure schedule raises a few red flags, particularly if Leeds fail to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Teams in the Championship have 46 games in their calendar, and that does not include any of the cup competitions.

It is vital, particularly for teams vying for promotion, that they have players who can cope with the demands of the second tier.

Jansson’s struggles will also be concerning for his rumoured Premier League suitors, who play eight fewer games that Championship clubs, but the pressure is stronger given that the quality of opposition is tougher.

Arsenal hold talks with Barcelona star over potential £21m move

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal have held talks with the representatives of Arda Turan, as the 30-year-old looks to force a move away from Barcelona.

What’s the Word?

Reports in Spain are suggesting that Luis Enrique’s imminent departure from Barcelona will trigger a major squad overhaul, with Arda Turan a likely victim of the player exodus.

It is thought that Turan’s representatives have been touting their client around Europe, with a number of parties in Italy and England reportedly interested.

The Turkish international is believed to favour a move to the Premier League and reports in Spain suggest that Arsenal have held talks with the versatile attacking midfielder.

The midfielder’s market value is £23.8m, according to transfermarkt.com.

How good has Turan been this season?

Considering the fact that Turan has been on the fringes of the Barcelona first team for much of the season, his record is mightily impressive.

The 30-year-old has featured 30 times for the Catalan giants this season and has notched a notable 13 goals for the club.

Is Turan a good fit for Arsenal?

While Arsenal may have a dearth of attacking midfielders, there is a high chance that Wenger will move a number of players along this summer.

Turan is certainly and upgrade on most, if not all of Arsenal’s attacking midfielders. The Turkish international is vastly experienced and still possess fantastic speed and stamina for someone of his age.

While he shows no signs of slowing down, Turan is reaching the stage of his career where his best years may be behind him. It will be up to Arsene Wenger to get the best out of a player who is vastly underrated when compared to his current Barcelona teammates.

Christian Pulisic and Arsenal, a match made in heaven?

Arsenal fans have been highly critical of almost every aspect of the club over the past season, whether you feel they are right to or not it is clear something needs to change this summer.

A £200m overhaul of the playing squad has been rumoured this summer, however, fans in north London will be desperate to see it spent on the right targets after some of their recent big money acquisitions failed to live up to the billing.

With that in mind, the Gunners will be looking into every facet of a potential target’s game as they look to find the perfect fit for Wenger going forward, if the Frenchman stays on that is.

One man who would certainly fit the bill is 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic.

The American international, who recently turned down Liverpool admitting he was ‘never really thinking’ about an Anfield move, moved to Der BvB in his early teenage years and has not looked back since, already racking up over a half-century of appearances in the famous yellow shirt as well as having the hopes of a nation placed on his shoulders at international level.

The gifted playmaker is a menace with the ball at his feet, possessing an almost magnetic touch Pulisic is a nightmare for opposing defenders, whether he be running at them from deep or causing havoc in the final third.

Wenger’s recent shift to a 3-4-3 system means the onus is on the two behind the striker to create almost everything centrally and, with question marks over the futures of both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, the club need someone to come in and prove they can take on the mantle at The Emirates.

You would be hard fought to find anyone else on the continent in and around Pulisic’s age bracket capable of doing so to the level he would. A match made in heaven? It could well be.

Three reasons West Ham should steer clear of signing Chris Smalling

According to reports in The Telegraph, West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion and Everton are all interested in signing £15m-rated Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling this summer.

The story suggests that Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho has told the 27-year-old that he is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after an injury-hit campaign that saw him fall down the pecking order, and the news has alerted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs, including the Hammers.

Irons boss Slaven Bilic is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season to improve upon a disappointing campaign last time out at their new London Stadium home.

Even though he is an England international and has bundles of top flight experience, a move for the Three Lions man may not be the right thing for the east London outfit to do.

Here are three reasons West Ham should steer clear of signing Smalling…

They have enough centre-backs

Britain Football Soccer – Everton v West Ham United – Premier League – Goodison Park – 30/10/16Everton’s Idrissa Gueye in action with West Ham United’s Angelo Ogbonna Action Images via Reuters / Carl RecineLivepicEDITORIAL USE ONLY.No use with unauthorized audio, video, data, fixture lists, club/league logos or “live” services. With Angelo Ogbonna due to return from a knee injury for pre-season and with the club already having Winston Reid, Jose Fonte and James Collins at centre-back – with youngsters such as Reece Oxford to consider too – there is a doubt as to whether they actually need to sign a central defender this summer.

If Smalling was to be signed, then the most likely exit would be Collins when you consider how highly-rated Ogbonna and Reid and the fact that Fonte only joined during the January transfer window.

Injury worries

The reason Slaven Bilic brought in Fonte in January was partly to do with Ogbonna’s injury, and it proved to be an even smarter move when Reid picked up an abductor injury and missed five matches between March and April.

The Croatian certainly won’t want to sign another centre-back with injury problems, and he will certainly be concerned that the 27-year-old missed a total of 21 games last season because of a broken toe and a knee problem.

Falling out of favour

Having won the Players’ Player of the Year award in the 2015/16 campaign, the Irons could certainly be worried about his decline in form last season and the fact that manager Jose Mourinho questioned his mental toughness and refusal to play through the pain barrier.

While we know Mourinho doesn’t always mince his words, it could be a concern for Bilic as he will want players to be committed and in the right frame of mind if the club are to make a significant improvement in the Premier League next term.

In Focus: Cracks beginning to show at Chelsea over Lukaku pursuit

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wanted the club to move for Torino star Andrea Belotti ahead of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, according to the Daily Star.

Britain Soccer Football – Everton v Burnley – Premier League – Goodison Park – 15/4/17 Everton’s Romelu Lukaku celebrates scoring their third goal Reuters / Andrew Yates Livepic EDITORIAL USE ONLY. What’s the story?

It is not the first time that reports have emerged of Conte feeling frustrated with the club’s board regarding transfer activity.

Now it has been claimed by the Daily Star that the manager has always preferred Belotti to Lukaku, but that owner Roman Abramovich has gone with technical director Michael Emenalo’s choice.

The report adds that Brazilian defender Alex Sandro and Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero were also not on Conte’s wanted list, but the pair are expected to join the Premier League champions.

Despite this, the Italian reportedly has no intention of leaving Chelsea in the lurch, but the issue over transfers is the main reason why he has not penned a new deal yet.

Who is the better striker?

On paper, Belotti would arrive at Stamford Bridge with slightly more impressive statistics than Lukaku given that he worked his way to 28 goals in all competitions last season.

The Everton striker was not too far behind with 26 to his name, but his tally of assists was also fewer at six compared to Belotti’s seven.

Lukaku was a major reason why Everton finished inside the top seven, while his fellow striker’s goals helped Torino to ninth in the Italian top flight.

There is not a huge amount to separate the pair with regards to the facts and figures, but in terms of style, there are differences.

As well as being a strong finisher, Belotti can drop back and help with the defensive contributions when required whereas Lukaku struggles in that area.

The positive for the Everton man, though, is that he has almost six years experience in the Premier League.

Belotti has never played for an English club, so it could take time for the forward to settle if he were to make the move.

Manchester United set to sensationally hijack Liverpool deal for Naby Keita

According to the Football Whispers, Manchester United could be set to enter the race for long-term Liverpool target Naby Keita.

What’s the Story?

Incredibly, it looks as if Liverpool’s saga involving key target Naby Keita is set to take an unexpected twist. Reports are suggesting that Manchester United are keen to prize the 22-year-old away from their rivals.

While early in the transfer window, RB Leipzig were unwilling to sell any of their players this summer, it is believed that their stance may have softened and they would be happy to listen to offers that match the valuation of their players.

This could spell trouble for Liverpool, who have already seen one bid for Keita rejected this summer.

How good was Keita last season?

Immense. The box-to-box midfielder was a revelation (along with most of the Leipzig team) and helped the Bundesliga newcomers to reach Champions League football next season.

Having joined Leipzig from feeder club Red Bull Salzburg, Keita was masterful in the middle of the park, scoring eight goals and contributing seven assistsin 32 matches.

He ranked first in dribbles in the Bundesliga per 90 minutes last season and held better records for interceptions than any of the Manchester United midfield held during the 2016/17 campaign.

Will Liverpool allow a deal with United to happen?

If Manchester United were to pull this off, it would be simply unforgivable from Liverpool’s point of view.

The Reds simply can not let their arch rivals encroach on a player that they have considered a top target this summer.

The three big Motherwell dangers that Rangers need to counter on Sunday

That fresh new season feeling is sweeping across Scotland this week as the twelve Scottish Premiership sides prepare to face each other this weekend. Optimism, hope, belief; all feelings that are inside almost every football supporter in the country right now.

Those feelings come regardless of what happened the season before or even what has happened this summer. For Rangers it’s been a 12 months of pain as they’ve watched their team stumble from crisis to bad result and back to crisis again.

Regardless, Sunday represents an opportunity for them to get back on track and start the league season with a positive result away to Motherwell at Fir Park.

The Steelmen are looking pretty good this summer, winning all four of their League Cup matches over the last month. They’ll have a number of dangers that could threaten the Rangers defence and if the Light Blues are to get the win they desire, they’ll need to counter that threat.

These are the THREE players we reckon could cause Pedro Caixinha’s side problems this weekend…

Chris Cadden

Chris Cadden has emerged as one of the best wide midfielders in the division and this summer has been the key driving force behind their League Cup success so far. He’s scored three goals and assisted two more in the Steelmen’s last four competitive matches, showing that he’s their man in-form right now.

Even going back to last season the Scotland U21 international showed plenty of good form, even taking the game to teams like Celtic on occasion.

He’s even been linked with a move to the English Premier League over the last week with Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly tracking his progress after ‘Well rejected a bid from Hearts for the young prospect.

With the pace to cause Rangers problems, they’ll need to watch him closely, especially if he’s looking to impress scouts in attendance.

Gael Bigirimana

How often have we seen a player who previously played at a club come back and haunt that side a few years down the line? Gael Bigirimana never had the chance to show what he was all about at Rangers when he joined on loan from Newcastle a couple of years ago, a medical condition preventing him from playing for the club despite the deal being finalised.

His move represented a bizarre and tumultuous time for the Light Blues that fans will want to quickly forget about. Now though, Bigirimana has the opportunity to finally prove himself in Scottish football and there’s no better stage than against Rangers on Sunday.

Joining from relegated Coventry City this summer, he has already made four competitive appearances in midfield for the Steelmen, already contributing to three assists which, while against lower league opposition, points to a player ready to make an impression north of the border.

His goal for Coventry at Wembley in April’s EFL Cup Final also demonstrates he loves the big occasion. In front of the TV cameras this Sunday, can he show what the Ibrox club were missing out on in 2015?

Louis Moult

Louis Moult’s goalscoring form in the Scottish Premiership over the last two seasons speaks for itself and going into Sunday’s match he’s showing no signs that he’ll slow that down anytime soon.

He’s already scored two competitive goals this summer, netting against Queen’s Park and Greenock Morton in the League Cup. He’s clearly a player full of confidence and in one of the big matches of the weekend, again has the opportunity to impress.

The truth is Rangers could do with a proven Premiership goalscorer like Moult in their squad and perhaps a stellar performances against the Light Blues might make Pedro Caixinha consider making him a target this summer.

At the very least the Portuguese will have to come up with a plan to contain him this Sunday or it could be another long 90 minutes for Rangers.
