Inauguramos a sala centralizada do VAR.

BPL 2017 regulations could hurt local uncapped players

They will constitute only 16% of the total players in the Bangladesh Premier League this season – an all-time low – as a result of the BPL governing council’s decision to allow franchises to field five overseas cricketers in an XI

Local uncapped talent will constitute only 16% of the total players in the Bangladesh Premier League this season – an all-time low – as a result of the BPL governing council’s decision to allow franchises to field five overseas cricketers in an XI.Count of uncapped Bangladesh players in each season

BPL 2012 (5 foreigners): Total 111; local uncapped 26 (23%)

BPL 2013 (5 foreigners): Total 134; local uncapped 35 (26%)

BPL 2015 (4 foreigners): Total 120; local uncapped 24 (20%)

BPL 2016 (4 foreigners): Total 131; local uncapped 31 (23%)
BPL 2017 (5 foreigners): Total 180; local uncapped 29 (16%)

This is a throwback to the regulations used in 2012 and 2013, although back then the BPL was in its infancy still finding its feet as a T20 tournament. And yet, the local uncapped players constituted 26% of the pool in 2013 while the corresponding figure in the inaugural edition in 2012 was 23%. The year 2015 was an aberration: even with only four foreigners in an XI, the uncapped players count was as low as 20%.When announcing the regulation earlier this year, the BPL governing council said it took the decision after consulting the participating franchises. Rajshahi Kings weren’t in favour of the move.Khulna Titans have the largest contingent of Bangladeshi uncapped players – seven – while Sylhet Sixers and Comilla Victorians have only three. Sylhet have signed three uncapped overseas players as well.Dhaka Dynamites coach Khaled Mahmud was unsure if the move would benefit Bangladesh cricket, but he did say there aren’t many players in the country who are explosive enough to play T20 cricket.”I would call it a concern but we also have to realise that we don’t have enough quality,” he said. “We have already lost seven local players [with the axing of Barisal Bulls] but I would still say that finding a place in the team is what the local players need as a challenge. The young players should have competition rather than having a confirmed team. There aren’t many T20 specialists in our pipeline, but at the same time, they need opportunities to be honest.”As a means to address that, BPL secretary Ismail Haider Mallick said: “We are thinking of holding a domestic T20 tournament with only local players, with the Dhaka Premier League (one-day tournament) or the four Bangladesh Cricket League (first-class) teams. So about 48 players will be able to play.”Reactions to these new regulations was divided. Nabil Samad, an experienced domestic performer, felt that “Bangladeshi players got more opportunities with bat and ball when seven local players were around. But this time the scope has become limited for batsmen, especially those in the top-order. Teams usually try to utilise foreign players in those positions”Meanwhile Khulna fast bowler Abu Jayed chose to see the bright side. “BPL is a good platform to enter the national team, because it lets us stay in focus. There isn’t any media coverage in National Cricket League (first-class cricket) and Bangladesh Cricket League. I think we can look at the positive of it. We will be brought into focus if we do well. There aren’t many of us.”

Man United now eyeing £75k-p/w star who’s faster than Rashford

Manchester United could replace Harry Maguire with one of his England international teammates at Old Trafford as Erik Ten Hag continues his recruitment drive, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

Is Harry Maguire leaving Manchester United and who could replace him?

Cited by The Independent, Ten Hag has laid the gauntlet down to Maguire amid speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United, stating in an interview: "He has to fight for his place. He has the ability to be a top-class centre-back and he is the best for England so why shouldn’t he be the best for us? But he has to prove it. When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision, but I’m happy with him."

West Ham United have had a £30 million bid accepted for the England international; however, he has neither agreed personal terms or undergone a medical at the London Stadium, as per Telegraph Sport.

Former Leicester City star Maguire has been stripped of the captaincy at Old Trafford and is behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof in the pecking order under Ten Hag.

Aston Villa have initiated enquiries regarding a potential deal for Maguire in light of Tyrone Mings sustaining a serious injury in the Villans' defeat to Newcastle United last weekend, as per FootballTransfers.

Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard have all been linked to Manchester United as figures who could replace Maguire at the club.

What has Rudy Galetti said about Fiyako Tomori?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Galetti has indicated that AC Milan central defender Fikayo Tomori has also been shortlisted as a candidate to strengthen Ten Hag's backline.

Galetti stated: "To replace Maguire, coming back to the centre-back situation, there are many names on Manchester United's list at the moment. Jean-Clair Todibo, Marc Guehi, and also Fikayo Tomori, are some of the profiles under evaluation on their side."

Would Fiyako Tomori be a good signing for Manchester United?

Interestingly, the centre-back has even recorded a faster top speed than Marcus Rashford.

Tomori has been a smash hit at the San Siro since moving from Chelsea to Italian shores permanently in a deal worth £25 million in 2021, as per Sky Sports.

Last term, the Calgary-born £74k-a-week earner made 45 appearances in all competitions for AC Milan, registering one goal and one assist in the process, as per Transfermarkt.

Playing out from the back with relative ease, Tomori averaged a pass success rate of 88.9% over the course of the campaign, demonstrating his suitability toward Ten Hag's high-octane style of play, as per WhoScored.

The 25-year-old has also excelled in comparison to his positional peers across Europe's top five divisions in the art of tackling, winning around 2.34 per 90 minutes across the last 365 days, putting him in the eighth percentile for this metric, as shown by FBRef.

Cited by METRO, Manchester United boss Ten Hag has issued a plea to the Red Devils' board as he attempts to bring in more new signings this window, saying in an interview: "I will always want more! But I think every manager you could ask would also want more. But it is about the mentality; in top football we are talking about the demand, the absolute maximum. Because we demand that from our players and, in their defence, they expect it from us. We are looking for the perfect situation but you never get the perfect situation. Then you have to come into your place and work for that, maybe with not the perfect situation but the perfect results."

Rangers: Beale Could Secure Next £23m Talent By Signing 20 y/o Target

Glasgow Rangers put on one of their finest displays of the season so far to draw 2-2 with PSV Eindhoven in an entertaining match at Ibrox last night.

A win in Eindhoven next week will see them qualify for the Champions League group stages for the second year in a row and this will give Michael Beale a major financial boost.

Thoughts will now turn to the Premiership clash against Ross County on Saturday, while Beale will also be thinking about potentially adding to his squad before the transfer window closes next week.

Could he secure a move for a talented young defender from South of the border?

As per some reports, the club have shown interest in Peterborough centre-back Ronnie Edwards.

Will Rangers make another signing before the end of the transfer window?

According to The Daily Mail, the Gers have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old recently in a bid to bolster their defensive options.

Beale could face some stiff competition however with a trio of Premier League sides also keen on securing his services.

Read the latest Rangers transfer news HERE…

West Ham United, Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth are also keeping tabs on the youngster and with a contract which doesn’t expire until 2025, the Light Blues will have to potentially outbid three English top flight teams in order to lure him to Rangers.

What could Ronnie Edwards offer Rangers?

The centre-back could have the potential to turn into Rangers’ next profit-earning talent by following in the steps of Calvin Bassey.

Upon arriving in Glasgow in the summer of 2020, very few supporters would have predicted his meteoric rise from second-choice left-back to partnering Connor Goldson in a major European final and his performances certainly caught the eye on the continent.

After just two full seasons at Ibrox and 65 appearances, Bassey joined Ajax for £23m, a club record fee, and it shows just how much he had improved in just two years.

Edwards may arrive with a slightly bigger reputation, yet he could develop further under Beale and secure regular game time which could in turn earn the Gers a massive profit in the future.

Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards.

Despite his tender years, Edwards ranked fifth across the whole squad for his League One displays and also ranked fourth for tackles (two), second for interceptions (1.4) and clearances (3.3) per game, proving just how solid he was at the heart of the defence.

Across these defensive metrics, Edward’s statistics would have ranked him first throughout the Rangers squad, clearly suggesting he could be a solid acquisition for Beale this summer.

The Englishman was even praised highly by Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony. He said:

"Ronnie is playing at a different level right now and if he goes we will have to decide whether to replace him with a powerful centre-back or with another ball-playing one which will be a decision for the manager."

Bassey arrived in Scotland from Leicester City and developed into a marketable asset within just two years.

Given his rapid rise during the embryonic stages of his career so far, Edwards appears to already be attracting plenty of attention and Beale will need to act fast to bring him to Rangers.

Winning was a good preparation for Test cricket – Rashid

The legspinner also praised UAE’s second-innings effort, where they batted out more than 100 overs, which made the Afghanistan bowlers work hard for the win

Peter Della Penna in Abu Dhabi03-Dec-2017For 24.4 overs, Rashid Khan prowled wicketless back and forth to his bowling mark. There were some scowls and maybe a few growls mixed in too, because for someone who strikes once every 14 balls in T20Is and every 5.3 overs at the worst of times in first-class matches, this was unusually long.A plethora of exuberant and exasperated lbw appeals from Rashid had been turned down, and one started to wonder if UAE’s line-up had tapped into a secret supply of Kryptonite to magically repel Afghanistan’s superhuman spinner. And then suddenly, Rashid zeroed in on his antagonist’s vulnerability. An inside edge off Saqlain Haider’s pads popped into the circus hands of Javed Ahmadi for a juggling catch. It was the kind of chance that, throughout the previous day and a half, would have found a way to pop out, but Ahmadi’s nervy grab was just the slice of fortune Rashid had been searching for. A few overs later, he took three wickets in four balls and Afghanistan’s star leggie was back spinning on his normal axis.”There wasn’t any difference except luck,” Rashid told ESPNcricinfo after bagging five wickets in the second innings of Afghanistan’s ten-wicket Intercontinental Cup win. “I didn’t have enough luck yesterday. I bowled some good, wicket balls but didn’t get wickets on them. That was, you could say, a bad day for me, 20 overs without a wicket.”I just tried my best to bowl in a good-length area. It didn’t matter if I get wickets or not but my main target was to bowl in a good-length area. Today, I was trying the same area and it was lucky for me today to get some wickets.”On a flat pitch that didn’t change much over the course of the three and a half days, Afghanistan were made to sweat in the field. Most teams struggle to bat 100 overs against Afghanistan in two combined innings in an I-Cup match, let alone a single innings. It had been 13 matches since an opponent had done so against Afghanistan, that too by UAE at Sharjah in 2011.Winning had come easy to them in this tournament, with four consecutive innings wins all wrapped up inside three days with two of them in less than two. So to have an opponent show a bit of backbone at the crease was something they were unaccustomed to. And yet, Afghanistan’s focus rarely wavered. Even when Rashid wasn’t taking wickets, he wasn’t bowling half-trackers. His team’s disciplined efforts eventually reaped rewards.Rashid Khan fulfills selfie requests from eager Afghanistan supporters•Peter Della Penna

“It means a lot to us to finish the I-Cup,” Rashid said. “It’s a good preparation for Test cricket for us. We’ll play against some good teams. It was a very challenging two days for us. In upcoming games against big teams, we’ll have days like this and we learned a lot from it.”We are second-time winners of the I-Cup. The guys did a wonderful job in this Cup. We are unbeaten. We worked hard for it. It was a tough challenge to get UAE out twice on a wicket like this. We were trying our best to get them out as early as possible but they played really well and played some good cricket in the second innings.”Taking the last wicket and then when [Ahmadi and Ihsanullah] chased the 19 runs, it was a really proud moment for Afghanistan. It will be the last time playing in the I-Cup so to finish it on a winning note is a really great feeling for us.”The other aspect of Afghanistan’s win that Rashid found satisfying was their consistency despite the scarcity of matches in the tournament. When Afghanistan first joined the Intercontinental Cup in 2009, they played seven matches over 18 months. The following edition was stretched out by an extra 12 months with the same number of matches. On the other hand, Associates have a far steadier diet of limited-overs fixtures to keep themselves busy. For Rashid, the ability to be dialed in – despite the lengthy stretches between four-day matches – is a testament to the side’s preparation.”It’s very tough to play a tournament like this in which you have a gap, you play a match, then you have to play T20s, ODIs, then again come back for this tournament,” Rashid said. “So it’s very tough to keep the consistency and we did really well. From the start, they performed and did well in every match.”Their concentration level was very good. So if you are getting something from a Test nation, you have to be ready for these things. I think the guys switch off, switch on really well in ODIs and T20s and then coming for this format and how to utilise yourself in this cricket. So it feels really good. We had lots of good memories in it and we really enjoyed this.”Rashid ends the tournament with 23 wickets, tied for fifth overall, but they came in just three games. Up until last December, his focus had been entirely on limited-overs formats and only made his I-Cup debut in March against Ireland. He had already taken 12 wickets on first-class debut against England Lions and the way he left Ed Joyce and the rest of the Irish line-up flummoxed showed he had the capacity to be a Test-match prospect. It continues the remarkable surge Rashid has made since his international debut in an ODI in Zimbabwe in October 2015.”It was a really special two years for me from when I started against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe,” Rashid said. “From there on it’s just keeping on. I just try my best to do the basics right and then see the results. I think the motivation I got from team-mates, senior players, the skippers, they really help me.”Then to come play in big leagues and share the dressing room with them, it really helps me to play under good coaches. So you get a lot of experience from these things and then come to play for the national side. I really enjoyed myself the last two years and really worked hard for it. we will try our best to keep continuing it in the future as well.”
