Leeds United: Reporter shares exciting thing 49ers are "looking at"

Leeds United have new owners in the form of 49ers Enterprises and they are looking to improve matters not just on the field but away from the cameras at Elland Road, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest news involving 49ers Enterprises and Leeds United?

Leeds United will kick off life in the Sky Bet Championship once again this Sunday where they will take on Cardiff City at Elland Road on Sunday 6th August, which will be Daniel Farke's first competitive match in charge of the Whites, as per Sky Sports.

The German coach has taken a steady approach in the transfer market as the dust finally begins to settle after a period of turbulence at Leeds United and has brought in Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow to strengthen his squad, as per Transfermarkt.

Of course, Leeds United are now under the control of 49ers Enterprises, who will be tasked with steering the club forward and new chairman, Paraag Marathe, spoke of his ambitions for the club in an interview with their official website, stating: "This is an important moment for Leeds United and we are already hard at work.

He then added: "This transition is a necessary reset to chart a new course for the Club. We have already appointed a highly-respected First Team Manager with a track record of success, and we are confident Leeds will field a competitive squad to contend for promotion next season. It’s a privilege to carry this torch as I know we have a responsibility to ensure this Club makes our staff, players, supporters, and the Leeds and Yorkshire communities proud."

According to The Daily Mail, 49ers Enterprises have a plan in place to maximise matchday revenue at Elland Road, which currently stands at around £1 million per matchday.

Ideas are being drawn up that would see Leeds United increase the capacity of their home ground to 55,000 spectators, while redevelopment would also bring 'a raft of new corporate hospitality offerings in revamped east and north stands' at a cost of around £200 million.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Jacobs has detailed that 49ers Enterprises are 'fully invested' in the task at hand of trying to win promotion and also to ensure the club generates maximum income moving forward.

Jacobs stated: “I think that's true. Leeds have ultimately gone down, and that will set the club back.

“But 49ers Enterprises have always been fully invested in the project. And we know, historically, that Elland Road is a big priority. That will help Leeds to move on, modernise and ultimately make more money from the football club.

“49ers Enterprises are not just thinking about this project in terms of the football side. They are also looking at this in terms of how they can bring the club on par with the top teams and the top brands. To do that, as Manchester United are finding, you must consider where you will invest your capital.”

What now for Leeds United?

Leeds United will continue to press on with their recruitment hunt as time continues to tick down in the window as it enters it's final month of business.

According to Football Insider, Leeds United are keen on Joel Piroe this summer; however, Swansea City will hold out for between £15-20 million for the Dutch striker before agreeing to let him depart the Swansea.com Stadium.

Journalist Alan Nixon has confirmed on Patreon that Leeds United have joined West Ham United and Fulham in the hunt for Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who could cost £15 million to bring to Elland Road.

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is expected to leave his current employers and has been earmarked as a target for Leeds United. The Finland international is believed to have a release clause of £5 million, which could well be the fee required to secure his services, as per The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Frinton-on-Sea overseas player case goes to court

A cricket club in Essex is pursuing legal action against its local league in a move that could have far-reaching consequences for the recreational game

A cricket club in Essex is pursuing legal action against its local league in a move that could have far-reaching consequences for the recreational game.Frinton-on-Sea CC are seeking an injunction against the Two Counties League (TCL), which is open to clubs in Essex and Suffolk, on the grounds of discrimination after they were penalised for fielding an overseas player deemed to be ineligible. The case is due to be heard in court in Chelmsford on Thursday and, if Frinton win, it could eventually set a precedent that would clear the way for many other players to return to action in club cricket across England and Wales. While around 110 players are understood to be directly affected by the ruling, the consequences for future generations could be far reaching. At the heart of the case is a largely unspoken intention to reduce the reliance upon overseas players in leagues and create more opportunities for young, England-qualified cricketers. At the same time, however, there is a growing realisation that such a policy could compromise the intention to encourage those same young, England-qualified cricketers from gaining experience overseas. The issue has been brought to a head by the case of Blake Reed. While Reed, a 22-year-old Australian, was initially registered without complication by both the TCL, an ECB feeder league, and the East Anglian Premier League (EAPL), an ECB premier league, in May and holds a Youth Mobility Visa (granted in April 2016 and valid for two years), which allowed him to play as an amateur at Exeter CC last year, Frinton were informed in mid-June that he should not play until further documentation was provided supporting his eligibility claim. The TCL was concerned that, as Reed had played six times for the Western Australia Under-19 side in 2013, he had been on a “player pathway”, which had effectively made him a professional player. As a consequence, he was not eligible to be considered as an amateur. The judgement, which was supported by the ECB, suggested that anyone who had played Grade cricket in Australia (the equivalent of ECB premier league club cricket) would also be considered to have been on a pathway and effectively end their hopes of ever playing as an amateur in England or Wales.Officials from Western Australia have confirmed that Reed was never paid by them and has not been considered part of their pathway since 2013.When legal advice taken by Frinton-on-Sea, who have hired an experienced QC, suggested Reed should be deemed an amateur, they decided to play him once more on July 1. As a consequence, the TCL imposed a points penalty upon them on the grounds that Reed was an ineligible player. Now Frinton-on-Sea hope the injunction will allow them to field Reed, a top-order batsman and seam bowler, until there has been a thorough hearing into the issue on the understanding that they will pay any losses incurred by the league should the club lose the case.Frinton claim there is no mention of “player pathways” in the relevant Tier Five visa regulations and that such stipulations cannot be added once the visa has been granted. They also claim that such an interpretation should not have been made without parliamentary approval. Reed would not, they say, have flown to the UK had his registration not been accepted. They further claim the ECB is aware of numerous cases of English players being paid to play club cricket while still being considered as amateurs so the “inconsistent” action against an Australian is discriminatory. They also claim that, if the measures are enforced, it could lead to other nations – particularly Australia and New Zealand – applying similar policies to UK passport holders. That could lead to a situation where young players from the UK would no longer be eligible for Grade cricket, where so many have honed their skills over the last few decades. The ECB declined to comment.

Lehmann confident of Warner's fitness after neck blow

The batsman passed a concussion test on Tuesday following the incident, but sat out of the final day of the practice game as a precaution

Brydon Coverdale16-Aug-20170:44

WATCH – Holland takes 4 for 1 in 11 balls

Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann is confident vice-captain David Warner will take his place on the team flight to Bangladesh on Friday, after being struck on the neck by a bouncer while batting in the intra-squad practice match in Darwin on Tuesday.Warner passed a concussion test on Tuesday following the blow, which occurred when he missed an attempted hook shot against Josh Hazlewood, but he sat out of the final day’s play on Wednesday as a precaution. Lehmann said Warner had a stiff neck and a headache as a result of the incident.”He seems all right, walking around the ground today, so fingers crossed he’ll be okay and we’ll get an update in the next day or two,” Lehmann told reporters in Darwin on Wednesday. “It’s always a scare when that happens, isn’t it? Hopefully he’s going to be okay.”However, Warner will be one of the several batsmen short of time in the middle ahead of the team’s departure, with Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw struggling for runs in the practice game. Peter Handscomb, Hilton Cartwright and Steven Smith all posted scores of note, while left-arm spinner Ashton Agar picked up four wickets in 12 overs on the final day.Forgotten spinner Jon Holland also reminded Australia’s selectors of his value by taking four wickets in 11 deliveries on Wednesday, including the wickets of Handscomb and Cartwright.1:06

We are all pretty cooked – Lehmann

Holland played two Tests on Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka last year and was second only to Chadd Sayers on the Sheffield Shield wicket tally last summer, but was overlooked when the squad for the Bangladesh series was named.Instead, the selectors opted for Agar and Mitchell Swepson as the second and third spinners alongside Nathan Lyon for the Bangladesh trip, with Glenn Maxwell as a slow-bowling all-round option.”They’re all pretty cooked, exactly what we wanted,” Lehmann said of the squad on Wednesday after the game. “We would have liked to bat a bit longer today but they were tough conditions and that’s exactly what we wanted obviously leading into Bangladesh. We’ve got to get better at batting for longer periods but I thought the spinners were good.”The series in Bangladesh will be Australia’s first Test tour of the country since 2006. They were due to play two Tests in Bangladesh in 2015, but the tour was postponed on security advice from the Australian government.

Howe Eyeing Bruno 2.0 With Newcastle Move For £21m "Steering Wheel"

Despite bolstering the ranks this summer, Newcastle United still look to be in the hunt for further midfield signings, and have identified Brazilian prospect Victor Hugo for transfer.

What's the latest on Victor Hugo to Newcastle?

That's according to Brazilian outlet Bola VIP, who claim that the midfield talent has left the Magpies enamoured after his performances in his homeland, with the Premier League outfit 'monitoring' his progress.

It's even believed that Eddie Howe's side will now look to invest in the dynamic midfielder, with a formal offer for the 19-year-old now said to be forthcoming.

Newcastle are expected to table a bid of €24m (£21m) for Hugo and expand the Brazilian core of their centre, with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton already plying their trade at St. James's Park.

Who is Victor Hugo?

Guimaraes is not only Newcastle's starring Brazil international but one of the most impressive stars in the Premier League.

The magnitude of his arrival to orchestrate the long-awaited Tyneside renaissance cannot be understated, and each of his 57 appearances for United have succeeded in continuing the ascent since his £40m move from Lyon in January 2022.

His arrival coincided with the genesis of Newcastle's turnaround, just a few months on from the affluent PIF takeover and Howe's deployment in the managerial role, and he is now renowned as the centrepiece of the club's midfield, hailed as "magnificent" by Alan Shearer.

Hugo will hope to emulate his senior peer and utilise his own positional versatility, having played centrally in offensive and defensive roles this term – as well as occasional stints out wide.

Described as the "steering wheel" of his side for his sway over the Fluminense system by journalist Rodrigo Lima, Hugo might be in the early phase of his career but is already attracting attention for his performances.

Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes.

As per Sofascore, the teenage talent has produced an average match rating of 6.98 in the Brazilian top-flight this year, scoring a goal and assist from 15 appearances (just five starts), completing 88% of his passes, forging 1.1 tackles per game, winning 63% of his ground duels and succeeding with 72% of his attempted dribbles.

He bears the emblem of prodigious talent and is a rising star with a variegated ability to allow him to thrive at the highest level, also ranking among the top 3% of midfielders across Men's Next 8 divisions – behind the big European five – for progressive carries and the top 2% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref, which could serve him well on Tyneside if he does put pen to paper this summer.

Guimaraes plays more of a deep-lying role than his countryman, but thrives among a multitude of midfield roles and would be an apt mentor for Hugo to absorb the fruits of his craft, having been described as "world-class" by teammate Dan Burn for his impact at the club.

And he also ranks among the top 13% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues for shot-creating actions, progressive passes and successful take-ons, indicating his superlative technicality, which could be passed on to someone like Hugo.

Howe is making all the right moves to consolidate his squad's success last term and continue the meteoric rise into the fresh campaign, one that will hold heightened expectation and a return to European competition, and while Hugo would initially serve as an understudy of sorts, it might be the perfect time to sign him on and mould him into a first-rate phenom.

‘This motivates me to push myself’ – Khaleel

Former Hyderabad wicketkeeper Ibrahim Khaleel will take over as USA captain from Steven Taylor for the Auty Cup beginning on Tuesday in Toronto. Khaleel, 34, made his debut for USA in May earlier this year at the ICC WCL Division Three in Uganda.ESPNcricinfo reported on Sunday that Taylor has been left out altogether as one of six changes in the squad from Division Three in an effort “to change team culture and reward players who show commitment to want to play for USA”, according to a team source. CPL-contracted players Timroy Allen and Akeem Dodson have also been dropped along with Alex Amsterdam, who was the team’s leading scorer during the title-winning run in Los Angeles at WCL Division Four last year.Squads

USA squad: Ibrahim Khaleel (capt & wk), Camilus Alexander, Elmore Hutchinson, Nosthush Kenjige, Ali Khan, Prashanth Nair, Japen Patel, Mrunal Patel, Nisarg Patel, Sagar Patel, Timil Patel, Roy Silva, Abdullah Syed, Ravi Timbawala

Allen withdrew from the Jamaica Tallawahs squad last month due to a family emergency. His availability for the Auty Cup was in doubt but it is understood that the USA selectors decided to drop him. The other two players left out are batsman Nicholas Standford and medium pacer Jessy Singh, who had reconstructive knee surgery last month. Fahad Babar, who missed Division Three after suffering a gash in his left hand on the eve of the tournament, is also absent after breaking a bone in his left wrist in a club cricket match in Chicago that will require surgery this week.Three players who were a part of USA’s winning squad at Division Four, but were dropped for Division Three – Ravi Timbawala, Abdullah Syed and Prashanth Nair – have been recalled while Nisarg Patel and Roy Silva are in line to make their official USA debuts. Both Nisarg and Silva were a part of USA’s squad that played a pair of exhibition matches against Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Florida last month. The other recalled player is allrounder Japen Patel, who also played in the exhibition matches. Patel last played an official match for USA in the 2015 World T20 Qualifier in Ireland.Canada also announced a 16-man squad for the Auty Cup led by captain Nitish Kumar. Jimmy Hansra, Junaid Siddiqui and Durand Soraine have been left out after being part of the squad at Division Three in Uganda. Two notable recalls are Srimantha Wijeyratne and Usman Limbada.Wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq, who scored 18 in Trinbago Knight Riders’ win over Patriots in Saturday’s CPL final, has withdrawn from the Auty Cup squad after sustaining a shoulder injury in that match. The Auty Cup will be contested over three one-day matches at Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, beginning on September 12. Canada currently holds the trophy after beating USA 2-1 last October in Los Angeles.

Journalist Shares Big Nottingham Forest Transfer Insight

Nottingham Forest are interested in bringing in two new goalkeepers to the club this summer with Matt Turner and Dean Henderson the preferred duo, according to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Turner joining Nottingham Forest?

Last summer's incredibly hectic transfer window at the City Ground is yet to repeat itself fully this year as Nottingham Forest have been a little more measured in the market this time round.

Steve Cooper has added Manchester United's Anthony Elanga to his squad, as well as securing the signature of Ola Aina on a free transfer. Chris Wood's loan deal from Newcastle United has been made permanent, while a number of players have left the Midlands side including the likes of Jesse Lingard, Andre Ayew and Sam Surridge.

However, the Forest manager has lost his two first-choice goalkeepers as well with both Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas returning to their parent clubs following the expiry of their loan deals.

As a result, Cooper will be eager to look for solutions to his lack of goalkeeping options in the market and will not want to enter the new Premier League season with only Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath as his only choices.

A deal for Arsenal's Matt Turner has been agreed with a fee of approximately £7m having been reported, but according to Sheth, Forest are keen to sign two new goalkeepers this summer, with last year's loanee Henderson also on their radar.

Speaking on Sky Sports (via Football Daily), Sheth stated: "There's still the issue of Matt Turner, who is the current number two [at Arsenal]. He's having talks, which are advancing and progressing we're told, with Nottingham Forest over a permanent deal there.

"But Forest are actually after two goalkeepers. So, while they're talking to Arsenal over Matt Turner, they continue to talk to Manchester United over Dean Henderson. Now, this is an interesting one because they're discussing a loan with an obligation to buy Dean Henderson.

"Henderson, we're told, is close to full fitness following thigh surgery back in May. You remember, his season got cut short in January, he got a serious thigh injury, he missed the last four months of the season while he was on loan at Nottingham Forest. But his recovery is a factor in the discussion of this deal because it's not the loan part of it so much [that's causing issues], it's how many games would be required for the obligation to be triggered."

"Now, we think that Manchester United want a fewer number of games than what Nottingham Forest would want. But because of this injury and the recency of this injury, I think Nottingham Forest want to be 100% sure."

Henderson was impressive on loan last season at Forest until injury derailed his campaign and Sheth suggests that there is an eagerness from the player, Forest and Manchester United to get the deal done.

The structure of the deal appears to be the major complication between Forest and United, while it also remains to be seen how much the obligation to buy would set Forest back.

Either way, Cooper is clearly keen to add strength and depth between the sticks, with Turner and Henderson having to battle between themselves for the number one jersey.

When do Nottingham Forest play next?

Cooper's side have had a fairly mixed pre-season to say the least, drawing one, winning two and losing three of the six friendlies they have played.

A narrow 1-0 win over League Two rivals Notts County was followed by a 1-0 defeat and 2-1 victory against Spanish sides Valencia and Levante respectively.

However, that win against Levante has been followed by two successive defeats. The first was a 2-0 loss to Championship Leeds United and the second was a 1-0 defeat to Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.

Their most recent clash was a goalless draw against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, the club's last pre-season encounter before their return to Premier League action.

Forest face a difficult start to the season facing Arsenal on the opening day on 12 August, followed by games against Sheffield United, Man United, Chelsea, Burnley and Manchester City in their first six league matches.

Those games against Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea and Man City are all away from home.

Spurs accept bid for Harry Kane: what we know so far

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been the talk of the transfer window this summer, with the England international entering the final 12 months of his contract at the north London club.

Football FanCast is here to keep you informed on all the latest updates.

What is the latest Harry Kane news?

Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Kane, according to The Athletic.

After several weeks of negotiations, the two clubs have finally agreed upon a fee thought to be worth in excess of €100m (£86.4m).

The England captain, who had been leaning towards staying at Spurs, must now decide whether or not he will make the move to the Bundesliga.

Read the latest Tottenham transfer news HERE…

He has been enjoying life under newly-appointed boss Ange Postecoglou but talks regarding a new contract haven't made any progress so far.

Kane wants his future resolved before Spurs kick off their Premier League campaign away at Brentford on Sunday.

Bayern's fourth bid has been successful, but they now must convince their top target to make the switch to Germany ahead of the fast-approaching season.

Manchester United, who had previously been the most likely destination for the 29-year-old, were not willing to meet Spurs' £100m valuation and instead signed Atalanta forward Rasmus Højlund.

Similarly to United, Real Madrid were touted as potential suitors for the 83-cap international, but Spanish outlet AS reported that the La Liga giants were reluctant to meet Levy's valuation, and subsequently pulled out of the race.

Where does Harry Kane want to play?

In recent weeks, Kane's appetite to depart the north London club seemed to have weakened. The Athletic claimed the 30-year-old has been encouraged by Postecoglou's impact and was leaning towards staying put.

However, after Bayern's bid was accepted on Thursday, three days before the start of Spurs' Premier League season, the forward could opt to make the leap abroad in a bid to win silverware.

Spurs wanted to tie their asset down to a new deal but talks failed to progress.

With no other suitors pursuing the England international, Bayern appear to be Kane's only option if he is to depart the Lilywhites.

Will Daniel Levy sell Kane?

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy

Yes, is the simple answer.

Levy has accepted Bayern's fourth bid worth over €100m (£86.4m) for the striker but it did take a while for the chairman to sanction the sale.

After weeks of haggling, Levy finally appears to be happy with the German champions' offer and the deal is now subject to Kane's decision.

Parthiv joins India A squad as cover for Pant

With Rishabh Pant down with a fever, a BCCI official said that Parthiv’s inclusion was a precautionary measure since the 15-man squad did not have another specialist wicketkeeper

Shashank Kishore27-Sep-2017

Parthiv Patel pulls one away•BCCI

Parthiv Patel has been called-up to the India A squad ahead of the second unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Vijayawada. He’s been brought in as cover for Rishabh Pant, who has a fever.Pant has been advised rest, but his illness isn’t very serious, according to a BCCI official, and the decision to have reinforcement was precautionary, considering there was no other full-time wicket-keeper in the 15-member squad. Sudip Chatterjee, the Bengal batsman, kept wickets in Pant’s brief absence on the third day of the first Test last week.Should Pant recover, there is a possibility of both him and Parthiv featuring in the pink-ball match starting September 30.Pant, who wasn’t part of the four-day fixtures in South Africa last month, struck a counter-attacking 41-ball 67 in the first Test, which India A won by an innings and 31 runs. He has, however, been an India A regular in the one-day format recently.Meanwhile, Parthiv’s inclusion is perhaps an indication of the selectors’ decision to look at options for the second wicketkeeper, behind Wriddhiman Saha, ahead of the South Africa tour in January. The 48th Indian to complete 10,000 first-class runs during the Duleep Trophy earlier this month, Parthiv is coming off a memorable 2016-17 season in which he captained Gujarat to their maiden Ranji Trophy title.Midway through the season, he also earned a Test recall after eight years, for two matches against England. He sustained his form through the IPL, scoring 395 runs for Mumbai Indians in a victorious campaign.Parthiv’s last fixture for India A was against the visiting Australians in a three-day rained-out fixture in Hyderabad in 2008.
