Everton consider summer swoop for Kanon

According to The Sun, Everton will battle a number of La Liga clubs for the signature of Den Haag defender Wilfried Kanon at the end of the season.

What’s the story?

It is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Everton, who are said to be prepared to spend big in an attempt to close the gap on the top six in the Premier League.

Reinforcements in the final third of the field – potentially Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson – are bound to arrive, but according to The Sun, the Toffees want to boost their defence with the signature of De Haag’s Kanon.

The 24-year-old could reportedly be available for as little as £2m in this summer’s transfer window, which has attracted the attention of a number of clubs.

It is understood that Villarreal, Real Betis and Eibar are all in the hunt for a player that has impressed in the Dutch top flight this season, but Everton would fancy their chances of winning any battle that might occur in this summer’s transfer window.

Is Kanon of Premier League quality?

It is always difficult to judge players that do not operate in the top five European leagues, but there is no question that Kanon has impressed for De Haag this season.

The centre-back, who has made 21 appearances for the Ivory Coast national team, joined De Haag from Romanian side ASC Corona in the summer of 2013.

This season, he has made 18 appearances in all competitions – scoring once.

The fact that Kanon could be available for as little as £2m would not make him a risky signing for Everton, who are certainly in need of a boost at centre-back due to the struggles of the likes of Michael Keane, Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka this season.

This particular deal is certainly one to watch, with Kanon hoping to end the campaign strongly ahead of a potential move to the Premier League.

Supporters react as Mourinho tries to take attention away from City’s title win

Manchester United’s desire not to be treated like clowns was reportedly behind their staggering comeback against Manchester City last weekend but they did a fairly good impression against West Brom on Sunday.

After busting a gut to prevent City winning the league in historic fashion last weekend, Jose Mourinho’s men surrendered in the meekest of fashion against Darren Moore’s basement club, to almost make that 3-2 comeback victory feel like a waste.

Jay Rodriguez’s goal meant that City won the Premier League as early as any team in its history has done and United blew their chance to keep their neighbours waiting a little while longer.

After the match, Jose Mourinho attempted to deflect the attention and reaffirm his own reputation by pointing out his history of success, both in England and overseas, but supporters of rival clubs simply weren’t having it.

HYS: Should Kenny Miller start in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final vs Celtic?

The countdown is on to Rangers’ massive Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic this Sunday.

For the Light Blues it’s not only their last chance to win silverware this season but also to stop the Hoops’ march to a second successive treble. Having not beaten Celtic since Brendan Rodgers arrived in Glasgow, it’s a monumental task.

Rangers boss Graeme Murty must get his team selection spot on and after a dominant 4-0 win over Dundee at Ibrox he has something of an attacking selection headache on his hands.

Veteran Kenny Miller – who Transfermarkt value at £315k – returned to the Rangers starting eleven for the first time since December in that match, predictably opening the scoring.

In the wake of that performance some former Gers heroes have tipped him to start Sunday’s clash, but is it a risk?

[ad_pod ]

Rodgers’ side are capable of performing at a different level to Dundee and Miller’s record of just one goal in five months isn’t the most inspiring to head into a crucial semi-final with.

Other options would include Jason Cummings, Michael O’Halloran or going with another man in midfield like Sean Goss.

However, the 38-year-old’s history in these matches is superb, scoring 10 times in 18 appearances against the Hoops.

Southampton fans hated Shane Long’s performance in FA Cup defeat

Southampton are out of the FA Cup after being defeated at the semi-final stage by Chelsea on Sunday.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata were enough to secure the 2-0 victory, with Saints unable to offer anything in reply despite having a number of chances.

Charlie Austin hit the post, Nathan Redmond went close with a low shot and Shane Long missed a chance to score after miscontrolling a pass from his strike partner.

While Mark Hughes’ side were obvious underdogs heading into the match, fans were left frustrated with the performance, believing some players could have performed to a higher standard.

One of the most criticised was striker Long, with many fans feeling he has under performed in the Saints first team for far too long. Some even believe he doesn’t have what it takes to feature even if they are relegated to the English Championship.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his display…

Revealed: 95% of Everton fans want to sign Lozano

Last week, rumours that Everton could move for PSV winger Hirving Lozano were heating up, and Everton fans are absolutely loving the links.

According to the Daily Mirror, Marcel Brands is certain to become the new director of football at Goodison this summer.

Brands is currently at PSV, where he bought Lozano last summer, and the pieces are all falling into place for the Mexican winger to follow his sporting director to Goodison.

Lozano has recently signed with super agent Mino Raiola, who according to reports is set to work with Farhad Moshiri and Everton to rebuild the Toffees squad this summer.

Without wishing to add two and two together and make one hundred, it seems written in the stars that Everton will revisit their interest in Lozano, after missing out on his signature last year.

Fans around Goodison are tired of their dull attacking play with no real intent, so the arrival of a pacey, direct winger with bags of tricks and an eye for goal is certainly music to fans’ ears.

Lozano has 17 goals and eight assists in 28 league appearances this season, and a whopping 95 per cent of fans said they would back a summer swoop.

Arsenal fans have mixed reaction as Bellerin commits future to club

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin tells fans he is adamant he will remain at the club next season.

The Spaniard signed his first professional contract in 2013 and although the 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer, he insists he is “definitely happy at the club and will be here next season”.

“I’ve got a long contract, I have been in London for a very long time, this is what I call my home right now.

“There is nothing else I am thinking of, for the summer. We have the World Cup, I don’t know if I will be called up or not [to Spain], that is something we will need to wait and see.

“If I get given the chance then I will be really happy for it. Apart from that I am sure I will be coming back here next pre-season.”

Bellerin signed his first professional contract with the gunners in 2013 after joining Arsenal’s youth side from Barcelona in 2011. After an impressive start to his career in North London, Bellerin was rewarded with a six year contract in 2016 that sees the Spaniard take home a reported £95,000 a week.

But this season Arsenal fans have been underwhelmed with the attacking right back after a series of weak performances left supporters questioning his defensive positioning.

Arsenal fans have been vocal on social media since the player – valued at £36million by transfermarkt.com – committed his future to the club.

It could be a blessing in disguise for Newcastle if they sell Ayoze Perez

According to reports in The Sun, Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez, rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, is Real Betis’ top summer transfer target after they qualified for the Europa League this season.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Sun says that the La Liga outfit, who recorded a sixth-place finish in the Spanish top flight to qualify for Europe, are ready to rest the Tyneside outfit’s resolve with a bid to bring the 24-year-old back to his home country.

However, The Sun reports that Magpies manager Rafa Benitez wants to keep the attacking midfielder at St James’ Park – especially after his impressive end to the 2017/18 campaign – with the player admitting to the same source earlier this month that he is keen to stay in the Premier League.

How did Perez do this season?

It was certainly a bit of a rollercoaster season for the Spaniard.

The 24-year-old was a regular in the starting XI throughout the campaign as he made 37 appearances in all competitions, but he often struggled to make an impact in terms of goals and assists in the opening months of the season.

However, the forward did hit some form in the last couple of months to help the Tyneside outfit preserve their Premier League status for at least another 12 months, and he scored six goals and provided one assist in their final eight top flight fixtures.

Should Newcastle sell him to Betis?

If Benitez stays at St James’ Park, it is very unlikely to happen.

The 24-year-old is a real favourite with the Toon boss, and that was shown when he stayed in the starting XI even when he perhaps wasn’t at his best.

However, while his form towards the end of the season was impressive, he didn’t do it on a consistent enough basis and it could be a blessing in disguise for the Tyneside outfit if they let him go this summer, and bring in an upgrade to bring some more variety to their attacking play.

The whole situation could change anyway if Benitez links up with West Ham – although Magpies fans on Twitter have an interesting theory about that rumour.

Newcastle should try to sign Torres, but deal unlikely

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has admitted in an interview with Marca that signing Fernando Torres would be “appealing”.

What’s the word?

Benitez is well aware of the striker’s qualities having worked with him at Liverpool.

Unsurprisingly, at the age of 34, Torres does not possess the pace and sharpness that he had during his three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.

However, he still managed to score eight goals in all competitions and is now expected to be on the move.

While speaking to Marca, Benitez admitted that he would be keen to bring in Torres on a free transfer, but does not have any expectations.

“I think it will be harder for him to come for him, not because we don’t want to. I don’t know what’s going on in his head, but maybe he is thinking about something else. It would be appealing, but I don’t think it would be easy.”

Is Torres still good enough?

The Spaniard is no longer at the standard that would warrant him a regular first-team spot.

However, he is still capable of providing an additional option in attack that would be helpful to Newcastle.

The Magpies struggled for goals this season, netting just 39 in 38 Premier League matches, but they were able to secure safety in 10th spot.

Ayoze Perez ended the campaign as the club’s top scorer with 10 goals in all competitions, showing that they need more support up front next season.

As Benitez said, it may be difficult for Newcastle to convince Torres to join, possibly because he could earn a heftier pay package at another club.

West Ham fans react as Alex Song posts picture wearing an Irons shirt

Former West Ham United midfielder Alex Song has posted a picture of himself wearing an Irons kit on an Instagram story, and Hammers fans have been quick to react.

The former Cameroon international impressed during a two-season loan spell with the east London outfit between 2014 and 2016, who is still a free agent having been allowed to look for a new club by Rubin Kazan in January.

The 30-year-old may well be looking to impress potential suitors ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, but it seems unlikely new Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini would have any interest in him as he looks to bring in some youth and inject some pace into his team – the potential arrival of an electric 22-year-old attacker would have a huge impact on Javier Hernandez’s future.

Nevertheless, West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Song image, and while one pleaded with the board to “make it happen” in regards of a return, another said “bring him back, still better than Kouyate”.

Newcastle fans want to pay whatever it takes to land Kenedy

Newcastle fans are begging their club to smash their transfer record on Kenedy, after it was revealed Chelsea want to sell the Brazilian.

A report from the Chronicle has claimed Chelsea want to sell Kenedy this summer for around £20m, but Newcastle will face competition from the likes of Arsenal, Red Bull Leipzig, Bayern Munich and even Paris Saint-Germain.

Rafael Benitez is a big admirer of the young Brazilian, and would love to bring him back to Tyneside after his successful loan spell last season.

The feisty wing wizard was linked with another loan move earlier in the summer, but the Chronicle report claims Chelsea would actually prefer to sell him permanently.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”252976″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch 21 things that will definitely happen at the World Cup”]

Of course, this is both good and bad news for Magpies’ fans, as it means they could grab the Brazilian youngster on a long-term deal, but only if the infamous Mike Ashley gets his chequebook out.

Newcastle currently have the longest-standing transfer record in the league, dating back to their £16m deal for Michael Owen in 2005.

With Benitez desperately searching for a marquee striker signing, it seems unlikely that Ashley will break the Magpies’ transfer record twice in one summer, so they could be priced out of a move for Kenedy.

Fans are praying that doesn’t happen though, begging the club to pull the trigger on a mega money move. You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
